Sigh. RIP Mr Moore. I'll be wearing my '79 Tour Thin Lizzy shirt all week long in honor of him.

Sort of forgot about the Victims LP. That was great production and probably his best singing. Shapes Of Things was stellar and my favorite GM song (but alas a cover), title track is nice, and wasn't Murder In The Skies on that? The Dirty Fingers era was real good with Tommy Aldridge, was it Charlie Huhn and Greg Lake?

Wow.

Very sad indeed. Serial and I were just chatting about the GM/Phil Lizzy last week on our way to load PA for a gig.

I'll put some GM on the shuffle tonight.

My son and I were just watching an Old Grey Whistle Test with Gary and Phil Lynott playing Out In The Fields and Military Man. Gary was playing a "Crowned" but not bound white Special (or whatever). I remarked to my son that I remembered exactly where I was when I heard about Phil. I'll never forget this day. I was listening to a Thin Lizzy concert from Wolfgang's Vault when I read the news on TGP. Gary is my favorite guitarist/songwriter/singer. I have everything I've ever been able to get my hands on by Gary. Saw him for free in Orlando at the Hard Rock Cafe. Saw him play with Thin Lizzy opening up for Queen in Lakeland Florida. I'll really miss what he might have done. You never know how folks that loved Jimi, Stevie Ray and so many others that died young really feel until it happens to your fave. It happened today for me.

One aside. Is it really necessary to play critic of his vocals or songwriting in a thread on the day of his death? It's not about you.

How very sad, I've been a fan of his from the beginning. I loved his TONE, no matter what he played. He was a true inspiration to me. I hope he is wailing away with all the greats that preceded him. RIP

Dude, I share my thoughts in a non-combative way on my feelings towards his talent, and mean no harm. And telling us "It's not about you" when you just finished writing a paragraph were you used the word "I" 12 times is just hypocritical.

Sorry, sad, shocked by Gary's loss, hope his fans find comfort and remember him fondly. We all have opinions and if they're shared in a non-aggressive way, all's admissible in my book.

I never made it about me and said anything negative. You felt it necessary to tell us what he couldn't do. I didn't like it. Sorry, ........dude.

I am sorry If I offended anyone. That was not my intention. I just tried to describe in what way his music and playing has affected me. I really feel that if you want to check up on Gary's best work & playing (and best tone) you should listen to what he did with Lizzy and Lynott. That is what I think, you might have another opinion - it's fine with me.

Don't be so sensetive please, this is a message board for X's sake.

Just reading, that's terrible news! I loved his playing whether Lizzy or solo times, even his blues playing.

Extremely sad news. I saw Gary a lot in the early 80's and to be honest after he 'found' the blues i never gave him another thought until a few weeks ago when i broke out "Corridors of Power" and "Victims of the future" for the first time in probably 20 years and mused on what would have become if he hadn't changed direction. Very influential, very sad.

Whatever Shark dude. You're so far off base it's not even worth arguing.

First time I ever heard of him was in Colosseum II, back in my fusion days.

I think it was years after he left Thin Lizzy that I realized he was the same Gary Moore. Just never put 2 and 2 together at the time.

Armitage:

Great pic. That's the promo poster for the short tour they did for the Out in the Fields album.

bummer, r.i.p...

his playing on thin lizzy's "black rose" album makes it one of their best studio releases. he was on the short list (along w/ mike schenker) for possible folks to replace randy rhoads.

i saw gary open the texxas jam in 84, he had ian p. from deep purple on drums, they were very kickass!! went out & bought "victims of the future", & a "best of" that had some good hard rawk songs w/ good vocals; bad news, dallas warhead, out in the streets... i'm not a blues guy, so i lost track of him after the 80's, but i enjoyed his part of the phil lynott tribute (parts are on youtube).

EDIT: went to itunes, his hard rawk 80's studio albums are not well represented (except some live stuff).

went to ebay and found the same "best of" album that i had (except on CD), so its on its way (will be FS as soon as i dump it into itunes  )

There is a cool Classic Rock magazine article about the Queen/Thin Lizzy tour published a few years ago.

That must have been a concert for the ages.

I've always listened to him, but more just lately after learning the Special I recently picked up is a Gary Moore model (a very weird coincidence. Kinda spooky).

I always liked his playing more than his singing, but he was incredible at both. Another great talent that will be missed.

R.I.P.

Listening to his latest disc Bad For You Baby. It's been in steady rotation for me since it came out. Very good from top to bottom. He was burning right until the end.

Wish I had been able to see him live. At least we're in the age of youtube and DVDs.

Saw that same show a few dates later when it stopped in Phoenix.

Watching Moore and Gorham trade solos is one of my all-time favorite concert memories.
