Morris Davis Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 On the gear page, no affiliation. Could use a new paint job ... I suspect this is a mahogany standard. Seller says US made, you may want to verify.http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=1112502
atquinn Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Seller says it is a USA standard, but the refinisher painted over the logo and the serial# so he can't tell what they are. I didn't feel like bothering at that point, but if you asked for pictures of the front and back of the headstock, you should be able to verify it since the imports have a different headstock shape. Still, hardly a deal even if it is a USA model, unless you're into the mods. IMO.-Austin
kizanski Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 As some of our membership are banned from TGP *ahem* Muse *ahem*, here are the seller's text and photos... "This guitar is a Hamer Explorer... I took this in on a trade years ago, and it was in pretty rough shape. NO breaks anywhere, it was just cosmetically rough... so i had it redone just for fun... it started life as an american made explorer, and is now just sort of a parts guitar with a great paint job... great neck.. good pups.. gotoh tuners.. still has the hamer volume and tone pots... original hard shell hamer case as well... plays wonderfully but if obviously if you are looking for "era" correct parts, this wont be the one..." "...gotoh tuners..." This (aside from the paint job) is a red flag for me. That said, the rounded neck pocket as pictured in the photo of the back looks exactly like the one on my old '97 Mahogany (USA) Standard, and different from the one on my old import Standard. Of course none of this helps answer the question, "Why the hell would you do that to a USA Standard?" The perfect platform for a Victimization: HOLY SHIT!! Right again, Muse!!
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 That's deffo a cheap import! I just feel it...Had to join the site to see it... Ah well...
sledhead44 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 C'mon.... Don't Fear the Reaper!OK, someone was going to say it.Any guesses on what it would cost to get this thing refinished?
carfish7 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 The perfect platform for a Victimization: That is PERFECTION!!!
whiskeyzulu Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 C'mon.... Don't Fear the Reaper!OK, someone was going to say it.Good 1!Don't imports have a scarf joint below headstock?
kizanski Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Don't imports have a scarf joint below headstock?Depends on the year.
Never2Late Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 IF I bought that thing, I would personally hand-carry it to Greg at BCR and mull its future over a big cup of coffee - paint comes-n-goes, after all....my last Standard was an all Mahogany natural finish. I'd gladly take it back to that.
Steve Haynie Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 The 12th fret dots look like the right spacing for a USA Hamer.
hamerhead Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 600 bucks for what amounts to a blank canvas USA Standard?!? If it is indeed a USA, it seems like a no-brainer. The possibilities......I sure hope somebody here got it.
Crwth145 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 What bothers me is the fit of the control cover. That might even be a bit of period correct "hameritis" visible at the neck joint.Agree with hamerhead... a no-brainer once verified.
FrankieIII Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Also had the correct bridge/tailpiece combo and also the correct 3 piece neck for USA...
kizanski Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 ok, so who got it?Not I.I PM'd the seller for a picture of the serial number area, but someone must have known better about what they were looking at than I do.
David B Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 The 12th fret dots look like the right spacing for a USA Hamer.Correct
tomteriffic Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Oh helz yeah. I'd take that out and use it with my dippy little folk 'n' roll outfit tomorrow. As is.
kizanski Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 *sigh*... I guess this project will have to wait... I already have the inlays (yes, I'm doing this project backwards)...
