This is unamerican. Bad for the economy! ;-)

Maybe I should join in here...

It seems all of the best deals come up after you say you're done buying guitars.

I didn't start this competition.

But as the inspiration for this vow, I think the point is it goes back to "GASsed out, I shall purchase no more."

If you finish up a partscaster, that was old GAS. Your GAS is gone because you acquired the partscaster with a plan of what you wanted it to be.

If someone purchases a gift for you, that is not because you were GASsing for it, it is because they wanted to do something nice for you.

If you ordered a guitar last year, your lack of GAS this year is due to having already ordered and put money down on a guitar that helped end the GAS.

While this may be a contest, it probably is going to end up being for pissing/bragging rights only. And since no one is camping outside anyone's door to check deliveries, it is going to be on your honor no matter what the stakes might be.

So: are you GASsed out? Are you sort of "GASsed" out and want to see if you can make it through a year w/o purchases? Do you think your GAS might just be addiction to purchasing and you want to see if you can quit "cold turkey" and putting your name to it might help your commitment?

If the answer is "yes", sign up.

All this legalistic "If I change the strings on my guitar and it feels like a new guitar, does it count as a new purchase" wrangling really misses the point.

Sign up or not, your choice. You'll get razzing if you sign up and then end up buying a guitar...but you'll still have a new guitar, right?

Just holding back on purchasing a new/used guitar for one whole year would be a HUGE milestone accomplishment for me. Pretty sad, really.

Six days in on the new year and NGD will be here on Tuesday for a guitar paid in full 2 days before the new year began. I have only looked three times at used guitars no counting the F/S section. <_<

Well I'm ahead of all you fools.

I bought a guitar before the New Year and returned it this week, so I'm -1 for 2013

My bass amp took a dump yesterday so my descretionary funds are gone.

Call me capricious, but FYI there are eight NOS Hamers (USA made) hanging on the wall at Alan's Music in La Mesa, California.

They've been there for at least 2-3 years (I go in semi-annually to check).

List prices range from $1495 (FM Special) to $2495 (a Monaco of some sort); most are priced at $2295.

There are a couple Monacos, a couple Artists (including a korina / P90 model), a Korina Special, and others that I didn't pay that much attention to.

Just hanging there to be not purchased in 2013 by ye strong of will...

Why on earth do you think I signed up for this? I clearly plan on losing! I anticipate hundreds of fantastic guitars showing up on the soon-to-be-neglected FS board. I will swoop in losing this battle, but winning the gear!

Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line"! Ha ha ha ha...

Then it's a good thing I'm Sicilian.

"Inconceivable".....

Let me put it this way... Have you ever heard of Plato, Aristotle, Socrates? Morons!

I do not think that word means what you think it means.

In my current, financial straits, I should have no problem with this kind of commitment.
If, on the other hand, Lotto smiles on me...I'd fall off the wagon in a big way.

Any future surrender to GAS should be predicated on that very if.

Sorry but no can do.

I just got back into playing after many years away due to a wrist injury and subsequent surgery. I have only recently begun to rebuild my quiver. That said, I've snapped up enough guitars in the past couple of months that I'm pretty happy with what I have. However, I'd still like to add a pencil-necked Standard to my collection at some point so I just can't sign on to this. Once I have acquired the aforementioned Standard, it might be a possibility but until then, not a chance.

The premise of this thread ain't exactly incentive for Hamer to re-enter the marketplace. Just sayin' lol.

Yeah, I'm out.

"If" Kim ever gives me a call on a custom order that was previously denied and/or that Hamer USA will once again will take custom orders, "I'm in like Flynn".

There were a couple of 4 digits I passed on last year and an opportunity to pick up a couple of very nice Custom Hamer Guitars on the cheap.

There are at least 4 guitars that I know I would buy

I will sign the pledge not to buy anything that is "glued enough" or "any car parts" guitars. other than that anything that is unique - I'm in.

Wasn't the last Special FM made (production) in '96?

I may be in trouble. Spent some time with my newest guitar last night and found the neck to be so skinny that my wrist and arm hurt so bad I had trouble falling asleep, and still bothering me today. I like the guitar, but not enough to endure pain. I may be looking to dump that one for something with a beefier neck.

Can I get a medical exemption? :(
