polara Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 In the OPs defense, if you're not in the HFC treehouse, you have no idea if the guitar's worth a thing. Just an old piece of wood. The original question was a valid one.If you post it on Ebay, you'll get an honest market price. Depending on condition and which way the wind is blowing that day it'll be from $1500 on up to maybe, MAYBE a thousand more if you happen to get someone who just HAS to have it. Hard to say with no pics and details.Bit of advice: Unless you need to sell it, start a new post here with photos, share your good fortune, meet the gang, then do some searching in the "Ask the HFC Experts" section for the guys here who restore guitars. I am not going to recommend any one over another as I've not had any work done by them but they all seem like upstanding guys.Talk to them about de-Kahlerizing and getting a correct period pot in there. You'll then have a sweet-playing guitar you can either enjoy as an instrument or sell on Ebay. The virtual auction thing (even unintended) is a no-no... for many good reasons. With an old Standard, even posting it for sale with a price is gonna rile some people, as you will inevitably get some weird offers off the record.Good luck, and welcome!

You can check with Kim Keller. A full restoration by the old Hamer builders would perhaps cost a little more, but it would probably also make worth more when it's done.
veatch Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 First - Welcome to the forum. Seriously. This is a great place to discuss Hamers, guitars, amps, etc. A *lot* of very knowledgeable folks here, and the drama and douchebaggary that tend to infest other sites is in far less supply, here. Second - If you're still playing guitar, *seriously* look into a restore by Jay (Murkat) , Greg (BCRGreg), or at the Hamer factory itself. You will be very pleased. Third - If you're simply looking to get the most coin for the guitar, eBay, and post the link in this thread in the original post. Fourth - If you just want to get rid of it, i'll go $442 and promise not to flip it for at least 3 years. (Yes, that's a joke, just to be clear...) I know i'm saying nothing new, but there it is.
Stike Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 $351 $352. See this goes down hill fast. $441 To quote one of the barbershop scenes in Coming To America "Fuck you, fuck you, and fuck you!"
bcsride Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Thanks to Polara and Veatch for the rational posts.@veatch. If I ended up with it (and I won't as it is likely worth more than I am willing to spend) I would restore it and keep it for more than 3 years.
veatch Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Regarding the original post:I was at a GC where someone walked in with an old Ric 4001 he was looking to sell. He told the GC rep he had "no idea what it was worth". The GC rep looked it over and offered him $400, then had to walk away for a minute.I discretely told the seller to look into what the bass was really worth before selling it to anyone. This is no disrespect to GC - they're out to make a profit like anyone else. I've had other stores offer me $300 for a Roland G808 with the GR300 (which i later sold for $1750) and $300 for an old all original BC Rich (which later sold for $1500).You did the right thing to come here and get more info.
Never2Late Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I would just like to see a picture of the guitar before getting excited....we still allow those, don't we?
cmatthes Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 It is Red Trans with dots, and apart from the Kahler, looks fine. George sent me pics, so I'll post when I get home if nobody else does first. On the road today...
bubs_42 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 The world is full of crazy people and we have plenty of them here.
Bobby Marshall Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Reminds me of my old avatar. The one that I never got.
rj2858 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 ^^^Or, we could just look at Hamerica and his, on post #12 in this thread.

Rebeka Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I'd be a little surprised if it hasn't sold by now. And as much as I'd love to have it, I don't even want to try to get involved in this.
MCChris Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 If it sold via any avenue other than a completed eBay auction, the seller has short-changed hisself.
