django49 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 After selling a BUNCH of things (mostly Hamers) a few months ago, there are a few things left over. Guess I need to make another push.In the meantime, I reorganized the photo albums, so all the links got deleted. Guess I need to start over and repost (as soon as I get caught up). In the meantime, the Artist (quilted) sold locally yesterday and there is some interest in the SuperPro and Newport 12, plus the Parker and a couple Mesa amps. Now I gotta think more seriously about the Korina Jr, Artist Custom, one or two Newports and one or two Studios. Not to mention 4-5 non-Hamers. (Do I have a problem or what?)Still gonna be a good long while before I lighten up on some "limited editions", the Tally Pro, etc.....Anyone else seeing a resurgence in interest lately? Is the economy improving or is it just tax refunds?I hope to know more about how deep the local interest goes as the week unfolds and then post some new for sale threads.
Montelovesco Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 /dream mode=on/I hope you keep the Tally Pro for another year or so. Will be in the US next years summer so I can pick her up in person... :-)))/dream mode=off/Sigh.
ZR Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Some people really love getting a big tax refund check, but I don't. All it really means is that you've had too much of YOUR money taken out of your paychecks and given to the government as an interest free loan! I love my low tax refunds or low tax payment and can handle my own money throughout the year thank you very much. Nevertheless, some people do get large tax refunds and the larger the check the more discretionary it seems to become. We are in the real estate rental business. I had a guy yesterday that was getting a large tax refund and wanted to pay the rent 6 months to one year in advance once it came in...that's some tax refund!
BTMN Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Nope. Not gonna buy one. Thought about it. Was working towards one, but thankfully it got sold and G.A.S. has resolved after intensive doses of Hamer Korina and 3 differant varieties of Hamer Special goodness.
Drendino Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Cool amp! Not to derail this thread, but it really is a cool amp. I recently got hit with a severe case of AAS (amp acquisition syndrome??). While the Swart was the least versatile of my two, I had to get rid of the Matchless. Tally through a Swart SST is pretty swampy sweet!
velorush Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 To paraphrase Cynic, 'what is this "Refund" of which you speak?' We are in the real estate rental business. I had a guy yesterday that was getting a large tax refund and wanted to pay the rent 6 months to one year in advance once it came in...that's some tax refund! Loan the gub'ment cash all year long - interest free! and use the repayment of principal to prepay an interest free obligation? Financial genius!
savethematches Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Mine's going to pay medical bills. I won't keep a dime. 😡😡😡😡
ib2010 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I get back enough to pay the accountants bill, plus maybe a hamburger.
TBP Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I'm not planning on getting a refund, as I haven't the last few years. But I am thinking about buying another guitar, even if I don't need it. I tend to get that feeling around this time of year. Maybe it has something to do with winter.Anyway, I'm not sure about the used guitar market now. The economy has improved, but I've recently a lot of really nice guitars for reasonable prices that don't seem to be selling. If I were a collector I'd likely have a couple Hamers, a Heritage or two and an Annapolis-made PRS McCarty on their way to me (well, the PRS seller didn't respond to my e-mail, so maybe not), but I'm not a collector, and I already feel kind of guilty about the six guitars I have. But a second Hamer would be okay, right? Right?
django49 Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 For clarification, I agree that the concept of loaning Uncle Sam money interest free and feeling a relief to get it back is stupid. I try to minimize doing that. That said many people do it....THEN go into a spending frenzy as if it is "a bonus" and never give a thought to actually setting it aside for the future. My question is really aimed more at whether anyone other than me is suddenly having the phone ring with offers on gear that has been sitting on the "for sale" rack for an extended period. Not that I MIND if someone else's refund helps me close a sale. Who was it that said, "Never underestimate the intelligence of the typical person?"

mathman Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I try to keep my refund small for the reasons posted above. But I don't want to be hit with a big payment so i always get some back. Dare I say " Bills"
coolfeel Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Y'all have it all wrong. The convoluted and misapplied tax code basically grants ownership of your wages to the gubment. Their just nice nuff to let you have some of it each week, and if you play nice, you will get a little extra at the beginning of the year...lol To paraphrase Cynic, 'what is this "Refund" of which you speak?' Studio Custom Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Many people live paycheck to paycheck and could never pay their tax bill if they owed. The fear of owing ensures they have too much taken out. These people were never going to invest in equities returning 10%+, so the "lost gains" are a non-factor. Count your blessings if you are not one of them, as a good half of the population lives that way, and don't know any better.

Submariner85 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I used my tax refund to buy a new windshield for my Ranger XLT and pay my annual dental insurance premium. Not much left after that.
Never2Late Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Ah, I'm guilty-as-charged.....and, yes, there will be another Hamer added to the stable.
primaltone Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Yep! See http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/63700-fs-2006-hamer-studio-custom-custom-order-wfloyd/
BillW Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Mine was big this year (had a nice bonus last year - screwed up my withholding). But I think I am done buying guitars. In fact - I may be looking to unload a couple more this year ( we'll see). I did buy a new soundcard for my home recording setup. So - hopefully (except: who are we kidding?) my G.A.S is on hold....time will tell
LordsoftheJungle Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Dang,,, I was expecting a modest return but when I cut my mortgage rate in half (yay!) it also cut my mortgage rate deduction in half (boo!),,, so now I freaking owe money.

Was just havin' a little fun with ya! Many people live paycheck to paycheck and could never pay their tax bill if they owed. This is my contention (and please don't take this as political - by our vote or lack thereof, we get the tax code we deserve): if you want to fix the tax code, abolish withholding. Let every citizen write a check for his/her tax bill once each year. Tax and budget reform would follow very quickly. Mine was big this year (had a nice bonus last year - screwed up my withholding). Your employer is mandated to withhold 25% on anything deemed bonus or commission. It jacks up nearly everyone!! To the thread: if I were getting a refund this year, I'd be after the #46 Korina Standard that is posted here for sale. After that, I'd be after Kizanski's Les Paul on eBay... or maybe the Les Paul first... It would be a tough decision - either would be mighty fine!
sixesandsevens Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Not to derail this thread, but it really is a cool amp. I recently got hit with a severe case of AAS (amp acquisition syndrome??). While the Swart was the least versatile of my two, I had to get rid of the Matchless. Tally through a Swart SST is pretty swampy sweet! Two pages in, this is probably one of the most on-topic posts on the thread... at least it's guitar related. If it hangs out another year, I may eventually try to buy that P90 Gadow Custom from you. I always do a double-take on the top on that guitar. I think despite a four year or so love affair with set neck Hamers, I might really be a bolt-on-maple-neck guy at heart. But it won't be at tax time, so that's probably off-topic too.
Toadroller Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I can time my federal taxes to within $50 either way, but then the state comes along and whacks me upside the head. If I tweak my withholding, I'll end up getting back from the feds and turning over to the state. Whatever.I'd recommend abolishing withholding entirely and requiring people to pay taxes every pay-cycle. That would change minds. With regards to living paycheck to paycheck, start listening to Dave Ramsey and communicating with your wife. Control your money before it controls you. Live on less than you make. Save. Take responsibility. And buy used Hamers.
Studio Custom Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 If you eliminated withholdings there would be no revenue. It's pure fantasyland to think the average worker making $15/hr is going to save up to send in a $3,000 check. And then what? You going to arrest them, put them in jail for nonpayment? Where's the money for all that coming from?
