Play it like you stole it? Or baby it and not ding it?

Play the snot out if it!

A little care and maintenance goes a long way, but the occasional scratch, ding or chip are going to happen, unless you wear silk gloves and play in a bubble!

These things are meant to enjoy playing and to make music. Put 'em to good use!

This /\

Despite the fact that I might not be fully qualified to participate in this, given I didn't order one from the first two runs, I have acquired several other IMO beautiful custom guitars in recent years and I'm with Chris- play the f outta it!

It also might help to clarify/differentiate playing vs. needless mishaps. Playing suggests a reasonable amount of wear and tear- pick marks, buckle rash, dirty board, fret wear, broken strings, finish worn away. Most of these are repairable to some degree. These I'd risk to my axes and they don't limit me from playing in a manner of my choosing. I can still play with fire and abandon but don't incur the damage the next category might bring on.

Damage imparted by more vigorous playing, accidents and <ahem> showmanship. There's bending the neck of a fixed bridge ax to get some slight pitch change. Guitar swings (throws, catches, etc)? You deserve whatever you get as a result. Thrashing wildly around and hitting every fixed object and even fellow stage occupants? Fine, if you're not paying for their medical bills, you might be paying with damage to your ax, or being thrown out of the band. Having a guitar fall over and crack because you didn't put it in the stand correctly is not what I would deem normal. Same for precariously balancing it on top of your amp stack while you take off the first layer of costuming.

I think we get the point.

The whole reason I sold the Punisher was because I was mortified of putting a mark on it.

If it were anything but that particular guitar, I'd say tear it up.

I thought it already had a few scratches.

Nothing that wouldn't have buffed out. I mean a big gouge or something. That guitar was such a piece of Hamer history (at least, forum history) that I'd have hated to be the one that dinged the hell out of it.

Ask yourself: What would the Punisher do? Would he baby himself to avoid getting dinged all to hell?

... or would he rain down justice on audiences everywhere and wear the dings with pride?

I feel like after I put the Kahler on it, it will be "anything goes".

Is that what the song at the beginning of Temple of Doom is about? Man, I misread that one...

I'm not in these runs but planning a future order once everything settles down a bit. Also want to see what Mike has in mind for his own creations before jumping on anything else.

As with any guitar, for me, it must be played. I've never designated a guitar as a home or studio only guitar. I certainly do take care of them and treat them well, but they will get dinged, scratched, play worn. They will not get stolen or touched by pleebs without my permission and presence.

While I do see pretty guitars with fantastic craftsmanship as works of art, like the Ultimates we've caught glimpses of, they are functional pieces of art that will yield much better results if you rock the f**k out of them.

This is ONE RUN. Not multiple runs.

The size of the initial offering/intro deal was extended by Mike, but it is all the same.

Ah. Forgive me. One run that was later extended to be doubled but shall remain classified as one run.

There. Much better. ;)

Well, Mike didn't have to be as generous and nice as he was, but he did it anyway!

To be fair to everyone that's still "wrong", my confirmation email referenced multiple runs. Before it became ONE RUN, I was in the second.

You know when this will get really contentious? Twenty years from now on TGP. It'll all get started when someone goes to sell their dad's Ultimate and claim it's from the "second run," then someone else will chime in, "there was only one run," followed by another, "well, I have an archived email..."

Little does Mike realize he has set into motion the end of TGP.

Should be great fun that we can all laugh about over our strained prunes and applesauce!

Aha! See? I was right even when I was wrong. Or is that the other way around?

Guess splitting hairs doesn't have a point!

One run, two runs, four runs... whatever. In my mind, there is only 0033, and the guitars that came before and after it.

If only! ;):lol::ph34r:

Hey, when it happens the applesauce is on me!

ETA: BYOD,* of course!

Regarding play it / stash it in a closet:

If we all play them in public, it creates advertising for Mike.

And with the positive attitude & enthusiasm around here, thats good for his business.

Fixed.

A Shishkov shirt and a Shishkov hat might further that end as well.

So, I'll take mine in XL!

Now that I can do without embarrassing Mike too much.

Yup! I cannot wait for all the other players to see and hear 0006 and ask where they can get one.....
