LOL! "Serial #001"

So it would seem...

Wait...THAT one is back again?

Oooof.

It's a clear overspray/partial refin, and was discussed here at great length. FWIW, I don't think it was even 3 years ago, but could be wrong...

The sustain block is worth it alone. Those are hard to get nowadays.

Wow. That's some ridiculous ad copy.

Maybe I'm a total sucker, but is it possible that the seller is oblivious (willingly or otherwise...) and just trying to hype-and-sell?

Is it the same seller as previously?

Actually, this caught my eye yesterday - since I'm in the market for a natural Sunburst for this era - but the description and photos (not to mention the serial number) looked dodgy!

Right? Maybe that's the root of my confusion. Seems like there a lot of pluses, and he could probably get something in the ballpark of what he's looking for, why not just be totally above board?

And if you actually bought it, there seems to be a ton of ground to return it citing "inaccurate description", yes?

Note: this is not the first Sunburst built (that one is in the Smithsonian)

Really?

No.

Even with that non-original case and no serial number, it's still worth a good $1200, I would think.

If the neck were a decent size, I'd pay that.

A lot of sarcasm here...but - do we all agree it's Hamer and do we all agree it's USA? If "yes", then my guess would be, someone sanded the whole thing, refinished it and put this ridiculous serial number on it. And still, I like it. Considering that there are only two other Sunbursts for sale - $1850 and $2350, this one still looks like not such a bad deal, especially with BO option.

Never had any of those. Can somebody give me some sufficient reason why I shouldn't buy it? I am seriously considering it.

It was probably stolen which is why the back of the headstock was refinished (amateurishly).

I hadn't considered that. Having already unknowingly purchased and sold a stolen guitar, that sure is a crappy feeling.

Yes, there's no doubt it's a USA Hamer and from the era it is advertised as.

Other than Serial's point above, I couldn't talk you out of putting in a Best Offer bid on it. I'd do it myself if I had the greens.

But the auction ended, so, there's that.

That's what happens when you decide to sleep on it.

Somebody got very lucky. I guess it could be scored for around $1K with direct PP dealing.

Regarding stolen issue - I do not think someone would go that far to refinish something that is not that valuable in the first place. It's not like it's 58-60 gibby or something. 4-5 years ago you could get one under a grand, not such a big of a deal. Especially when those guitars could be identified not by the serial number, but by wood pattern, that can not be altered. In any case - good luck to a new owner. Sand off that pos number and you are good to go.
