I like his pre-emptive strike of "I will not sell this guitar for $2500"

and damn you all to hell for even considering that!!

I think if the knob is changed from Gibson to original Hamer, than the seller really has a chance. I know I'd consider it. Yeah...the knob... it just bothers me. Any chance I could see what it's gonna look like with black knob?

Like anything Its worth whatever somebody is willing to give you in cash on any particular day.  in 2008, this guy, the buyer back then was happy to lay down $4750.00. Good for him.  Now the same person but on the selling side of the counter hangs a tag for $8000 on it.  That's just an asking price.  The $4750 he paid for it back in 2008 has very little to do with what it will sell for now.  Perhaps it makes a diff to the seller.  Emotion and pride get in the way.  That has no bearing on what the market will pay for it now.    Cheers!

btw - "I have original HSC, Hang Tags and Backplate sticker that has this at 1990 price of $2,355.00 retail."Dude everybody knows that new Hamers don't hold their price .  You paid $8k in 2008?!  Umm with all due respect, you kinda got hosed.

If for $2500 you will be "damn...to hell" by seller, I can't even imagine what will he do to you for "treefiddy" offer  .

" -So, what you gonna do to me? Rape me and then kill me? Go ahead!
-No. First we gonna kill you, and then we gonna rape you"   ( anyone remembers what movie was it? )

I'm too broke to care much about this 'sale' (or if it actually DOES sell), but I CAN afford popcorn to munch while watching and being an 'innocent bystander'...as long as I can bring my own.  ;)

Edited to add:  Besides, it needs a Kahler.

Ebay listing has been postponed until July 7th to give you cheap bastards one last chance at the new lowered cheap-ass price of $7750.

A steal at twice the price!!

Very interesting read.  What I understand is that he got it in 1990-91 or so at a music store employee price - the ebay auction he mentioned from 2008 was his, where he alleges that he withdrew the guitar while the bidding was up to that $4xxx level.

Also interesting that he's inviting all the upstanding, law-abiding citizens of craigslist out "only half an hour" outside of LA to his place, where he has multiple "boutique amps" for them to case, I mean check out.

I need to stop watching so many crime dramas.  My mind is bubbling over with the possibilities:

1) He's actually convinced himself that this is an achievable price, and he's inviting strangers to his place where he has other, presumably also nice gear, blindly courting the risk of theft.  This is the "aging boomer collector cashing out" scenario.

2) He's telling his wife "I'm trying to sell it, but it's not moving.  This economy sucks!"

3) He's fishing for the "fool and his money" scenario (the basis of many a fine business plan) to sell the guitar.  It only takes one.

4) He's fishing for the "fool and his money" scenario to lure him half an hour out of LA with the cash for the deal in order to rob him.  The high pressure parts of his conditions, aimed at steering the potential buyer to volunteer to jump through his hoops without allowing time to consider consequences (i.e., respond immediately to my communications and come out of town to my turf with a big wad of cash on you), have this flavor whether it's the actual case or not.

5) He's fishing for some dishonest soul(s) to come check him out and then rob him or come back and clean him out, for the insurance money.

I know that Occam tells me that it most likely is what it appears to be, but where's the fun in that?  To stay creative, you have to be creative.

I doubt it's 3 since his business model only supports one fool. ;)
