  1. The wife & I drove out to Asheville for the weekend, our pal Hard Hearted Bill had a gig downtown with his new jump blues group Virginia and the Slims. Bill has a fantastic 3 pickup Les Paul that sounded great straight into his Boss Katana. Good times!

  6. Been to Biltmore a few times over the years, although my last visit was over 10 years ago. At least they have more convenient restroom facilities now than the virtually non-existent loos from the early '70s.

  8. I honestly can't remember my last "new" guitar as most everything I have is some kind of mutt or project but after many years I finally pulled a guitar out of a shipping box that I didn't have to take apart and refinish. I've been very familiar with Sully Guitars for at least a decade now but never actually played one. The gamble paid off as I really like it. Anywho how about some pics? I had these silly knobs custom engraved... Sully ran with the basic white lady, Hobby Lobby decor schtick. I did not know he was going to do it but I laughed really hard. The model is called the Raven but with all this nonsense I'm spelling it "Reighvynn". And just to balance it out...

  9. Killer sounding 20 watt amp with vertical 2x12 cab. All stock. In great condition. Head is mint. Cab has a couple of scuffs on the bottom, see pics (finger for scale… 😂) Links to sweetwater for new price comparison. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/JJ-JUNIOR--friedman-jj-junior-jerry-cantrell-signature-2-channel-20-watt-tube-head https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/FVert212Gld--friedman-vertical-212-120-watt-2x12-inch-extension-cabinet-gold-weave Cheapest I see on reverb right now is $1,290 for the head and $800 for the cab. For the HFC I would do $1,100 for the head and $700 for the cab. $1,700 for the pair together. Cash in person or PPFF. No shipping at this time. Located in west suburbs of Chicago. Willing to drive 2 hours for a meet up. EDIT: If someone wants the head only; I will consider splitting them up and shipping the head. Buyer pays actual shipping. Quick and dirty photos attached, more available on request.

  10. Proof-of-concept is functional, but it's tight and really needs to be done over. I used what I had laying here and, while it works, it's not great. Three full-size pots physically won't fit in the space so I had to use a mini in the middle. Regular-size knobs were too close together to get your fingers in there, but these smaller ones do the trick. The extra hole in the plate bugs me but I can live with it until EVERYTHING gets replaced - plate, pots, wiring, etc...probably pickups, too. I'll seek professional help for that when the time comes. But for now it all works. And it plays so nice I wore the strings out......

  11. This, dear readers, is how a band presents a united front. Not a pair of shorts anywhere to be seen. A demerit for the trucker hat on the drummer, but he is wearing a cool bowling shirt.

  13. Still a great album. I guess there is no universal music that appeals to everyone. That being said, if you haven't listened to it, there's a good chance you're missing out on something you'll enjoy. https://www.amazon.com/music/player/artists/B001AJE4MK/generic-hustle

  14. I may or may not have been influenced by Ed Friedland getting a L-2500 750 recently, but after owning an G&L SB-2, I decided it was time to check out the last member of Leo Fender's bass designs. The L-1000, L-2000, and L-2500 are not nearly as famous and ubiquitous as the Precision and Jazz Bass designs, or the Stingray, but there are some who swear by them, and they are definitely a bit of a unique take in terms of pickup and preamp design. It's also got the G&L "Saddle lock" bridge, which has a set screw on the side that presses the saddles together, and the bridge itself has a protrusion on the bottom that sticks into the body. The electronics on the bass are mostly passive, with a take on the G&L Passive Treble Bass system, which are the three knobs. Top switch is for the pickups, center switch is for series or parallel wiring, and the bottom switch is an active preamp buffer, which is off, on, or "treble boost". It's mainly designed for signal integrity over long cable runs, and with it on you do get a bit more bass. However you don't really NEED it in most situations, as the output from the MFD pickups is MASSIVE. I used to have an SB-2 years ago, and like that bass, I need to have the "active" switch turned on to avoid clipping out the preamp of my bass amp. All the sounds are usable, and are somewhere near a p-bass and a stingray in a way. In the series mode the sound is quite aggressive, while the parallel mode is more scooped, and there is definitely more of a variation than I get on my Stingray 5H, which has the series parallel option as well. This has the "old" headstock for G&L 5 string basses, which has a string retainer for the A string, something I DEFINITELY want. Makes it so much easier to really dig in on the open A string without worrying about nut buzz. I also really don't like their current headstock for the "CLF Research" line that they have now, which looks pretty much like a bloated fender headstock. I also like having the little "spike", which is distinctive to G&L. Only question left is whether I want to go for the black, red, and white switch tip covers that the OG front routed basses had, and currently have.

  15. The pickups appear to be original to the guitar. I'm a little surprised Dave's wasn't more on top of that, just calling the neck and bridge 'unmarked' - clearly not the case with the bridge pickup (though the neck has nothing): Is that a Broadcaster? I know shit about pickups other than if they sound OK. From what I've gleaned from the interweb, the middle is a Duncan Hot Stack and neck looks to be the one from the Broadcaster set: Sorry for the crappy picture - not enough slack in the wires to get a good one.

  18. TC-Gakki in Japan has 2003 Monaco Superpro listed for 180,000 Yen and 39,000 shipping to the US. Assuming conversions are correct, that would be 1,217.72 and 263.84, give or take. I'm not sure if that's a great price combined, or fees on top, but it looked like a nice one in the photos. I know some of your folks are expeirneced with bring back US guitars from Japan so figured it was worth sharing in case. I feel like I've read about bringing back USA made guitars to the states didn't require the same duties/fees if documented correctly, but that was a few years back. https://tcgakki.com/en/products/monaco-super-pro

  21. The Guardian got most of it right. (He is also survived by two daughters, Kelly and Holly). Terry was a good man. Immense talent and a sharp sense of humor. He was my friend’s father-in-law. The few shows of his I saw in SF were great (including a solo acoustic, “Don’t Worry Baby”), and he once borrowed my Guld D-55 for a gig at The Chapel. He loved gear and we had a blast showing off our iPhone collection pics to each other. He was quite the raconteur, and always had a great rock’n’roll story (a great one about Lennon sitting in on a Beatles transcription session at their publisher and helping the piano lady-transcriber get the right chords. She didn’t know who he was!). I didn’t ask him about any Cheap Trick stories (too obvious), but he did talk about an aborted band project with Tom Petersson and his wife, Dagmar. Last time I saw Terry and Annette was in Arcadia a few years ago. Mike and Kelly were about to move to France and they had a poolside BBQ/sendoff with all their friends. Terry was still busy touring, but his health issues were starting to take their toll. Besides his own records, we can thank Terry for half of Led Zep and Deep Purple MKII. RIP, Terry.

  22. I know. I think I sent Dave a possible name, but they archived the RobinLovers Forum and it's gone. Fleetwood isn't up there on my favorites either. And please correct me at any opportunity that presents itself. I'll feel at home...

  24. VERY strange. Never bothered me, though. And the SuperPro is probably my favorite post-vintage Hamer ever.

  25. You don't want a tone report from me, it'll sound like a kid that didn't read the book trying to bullshit their way through a book report in front of the class. 😄

  26. The second I saw this guitar's body shape, I immediately thought of Kammerer 'spud' guitars. Three knobs in a row definitely won't make it look enough like a Hamer.

  30. Forgive the shitty digital photo of the original. This was built at Hamer for employee Jim O’Keefe. I would guess 1994? I can’t remember the headstock but 99% sure it DOES NOT have a Hamer logo. As soon as you picked it up, you could tell it was 100% Hamer USA. No I don’t know why the body is reversed.

  31. "New York City’s Met Museum is contesting claims made by former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor that he owns the “Keithburst” Les Paul" ... "Met officials contest Taylor's claims that he owned the guitar in their collection, and say the instrument was not among those stolen from Nellcôte. The museum states that a man named Adrian Miller became the guitar’s owner in 1971, but doesn’t explain how he came to take ownership of it. It’s believed that Miller ultimately sold the guitar to Heavy Metal Kids founder Cosmo Verrico, who, as per an interview with the New York Times, “can’t recall how Miller acquired the guitar.”" Well that should settle it! 🤪

  36. The pictures aren't great but it looks to me like the body's original finish was removed at some point. If so that's not exactly excellent condition.

  37. Thanks, holLoWskull!! I may have to hit you up on that. Besides the 5-way and 2 volumes (1 for the Fishman, 1 for the regulars, no tone), there are 2 mini-toggles: a 2-way and a 3-way. Not 100% sure what they do. I'm probably going to go with a 5-way with separate volume and tone controls for the regular pickups, and a separate volume for the Fishman, to a TRS jack - and remove whatever the rest of that was supposed to be. It'll look like this: Clean, simple, effective.

  38. Wow that looks like someone was trying to maybe put a resistor on the volume pot (preserve treble?) and who knows what the heck was going on with the other pot? I found using a CTS concentric stacked pot (250K/250k or 250k/500k) for a piezo volume/tone works well if you want to follow the wiring diagram on Fishman’s website for a passive Powerbridge circuit. Gives you a tone control for the pickups (plus the volume for the piezo) in one hole. Feel free to PM me if you want any pix of a fairly simple (non-factory) wiring layout (with only one mini toggle though) that I did in my T-51F
