Tortious Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 https://www.themusiczoo.com/products/hamer-korina-vector-brazilian-rosewood-fretboard-transparent-cherry-2005 There's one facepalm-inducing thing... "The guitar has been modified with the addition of a white stinger added to the back of the headstock - it was a cosmetic decision and is not placed to hide any repair work!" At least it has the cert. 3 Quote
kizanski Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 I like the stinger. Too bad it’s not original. 3 Quote
cmatthes Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 I'm assuming that the Serial Number is intact under the stinger? Quote
1 bottlerocket Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 The color would not be my first choice for the stinger, but I like it. Quote
Steve Haynie Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 The price needs to be knocked down because of that messed up finish on the back of the headstock. 5 1 Quote

HamerCustomEr Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 What are you guys talking about? I like the stinger... just kidding, it's horrible! 1 Quote

Maybe, but it certainly doesn't appear visible, and I'm guessing might require finish removal to the wood to see it again? That's why I think the cert is rather important for this one. It's obviously the real deal, but not having the number visible is not the greatest selling point. Quote

I think to MZ it is. They have a 97, non-Brazilian, from the initial run for $7k on their site too. Of course it's been there for awhile at that price. Offer them $350! 1 1 Quote
Disturber Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 Strange reflections where the neck meets the headstock. Looks like no visible serial number. Either it had a busted headstock, or it might be hot property? 1 Quote

I would check out the nick / scratch in the white finish between the circled areas, as the crescent shape is similar to what I have seen w headstock cracks. Not saying this is the case, but if I were in the market, I would investigate further. If this guitar was hot property, adding a garish stinger in white to cover serial number yet still including the CoA would not make sense. The best option for this guitar would have been to leave it stock. Second best option would have been to leave it stock. Third best option IMHO would have been to have the stinger added in black and retain the serial number. Edited June 20, 2024 by stratacus 5 Quote

Either it had a busted headstock, or it might be hot property? There also looks to be some "stuff" in places on other parts of the guitar. Maybe whoever put on the stinger said 'yeah we need to do NITRO baby" and it's reacting with something. Also they did a pretty poor job of masking off the edges of the headstock. I am hoping this is a "friend of a friend" thing that they are listing on consignment, as it just is not gonna move unless they can get an actual picture of that serial number by taking a shot at an angle. I mean what the hell were they thinking? 1 Quote

Not saying this is the case, but if I were in the market, I would investigate further. I did a quick search and found that Mahar's Vintage Guitars and Lovies Guitars had previously sold this same guitar with a "finish crack" on the back of the headstock in the same location as the nick / scratch mentioned above. From Mahar's Vintage Guitars website: ...one finish crack on the back of the neck where the headstock transitions into the neck. This is not a crack, just a finish line that looks like checking, but it is likely from a slight stress to the neck at some point. Included below are links to Mahar's and Lovies' Reverb listings for this guitar, with their photos of the damage and COA's for serial # 5 54016 Mahar's Lovies Edited June 21, 2024 by stratacus 2 8 1 Quote
tbonesullivan Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 So now looking at the stinger, I can see exactly where the crack is. It's still visible under that paint job. It was literally made worse with the overpaint. That is also a very strange looking finish crack. From what I can see it doesn't LOOK like a wood crack, but it's still weird looking. 2 Quote
cmatthes Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 If that was just a finish crack, why didn’t they wetsand it flat either before that gawdaful “Stinger”, or just wetsand/micromesh it flat and buff? 3 1 Quote
1 bottlerocket Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 This guitar keeps getting worse and weirder. 2 Quote
