cynic Posted February 18 Posted February 18 It wasn't spectacular, but I loved the active engagement. 6 Quote
Disturber Posted February 18 Posted February 18 A lot of covers made a huge impact on me. But today I choose this album. My best friend had received this album as a present. We did not think the cover was metal enough (we thought it was really gay), so we did not listen to it for months. Then one day we decided to give it a spin and we quickly realised that these mo**her f***ers was the real deal and more. The best glam rock metal group from this part of the world ever. They even influenced GnR. I still love it to this day. 3 Quote
seeker Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Just one of those things. It was my Dark Side of the Moon, Fragile, etc. Both sides, every day, for 6 months.   4 Quote

If anyone else is looking for this (c.1977), it's there, but as a 2009 reissue. Enjoy. ETA @seeker: I enjoyed it very much, though I found it absolutely other than expected, especially the vocals. Very Kraftwerk-ish in places (which I enjoyed). Edited February 20 by velorush 1 Quote

FIFY 😉 Agreed. The '70's Styx albums were on constant rotation. 5 1 Quote

Vintage Hamer-Lover Posted February 21 Posted February 21 My love for music started with this vinyl album I bought on my 14th birthday 1972 for 29 German Marks (= € 15) at our local music store. Everything was exotic and a revelation to me: the music, the foldout cover, the artwork, even the smell. I played it with 16 revolutions per minute on my dad's turntable (Swiss Lenco L75) checking out and copying the riffs of Mick Taylor thinking it was Keith! Still got it, listen to it at least twice a year and would miss every crack. Only the enclosed postcards are missing, sent them trying to convince my friends...       Great article about it's graphic history, his name is HAMERsveld:  https://bestclassicbands.com/rolling-stones-exile-cover-art-van-hamersveld-8-10-21/ 4 Quote
cmatthes Posted February 22 Posted February 22 While not necessarily my favorite album as a kid, I probably spent too much time lusting after the checkerboard Standard on the back cover...finally acquired an all-mahogany 4-Digit (#0703) that was the perfect candidate for the conversion and let Stike and Shane go to town on it. Dream realized 35 years later! 14 Quote
Spinaltap Posted February 22 Posted February 22 The Clash, London calling is one of the most RnR album covers ever. It Screams Loud.. I love it so much 7 Quote

It reminded me at the time of some of the half-sung, half spoken vocals of early punk as well as you noted Kraftwerk. Decades later I learned John Lydon had been an early concert goer/fan and hungout with them backstage, before forming Sex Pistols. 1 Quote

Don't take me as some erudite connoisseur: I went googling because I had no idea that might be a Matisse - or actually I hadn't considered that might be a modification of an earlier work. That is when I found the artist's name and the original work. Unlike Austin Powers, I am not very charming, not very debonair, not handsome, not witty and I have absolutely no knowledge of fine wines. Women do not want me; men do not want to be me. In short, I am not an international man of mystery.  4 Quote
