Jakeboy Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Well, FedEx kept me waiting nearly all day....so in order to pass the time I spent the day cleaning out the garage while I waited...and waited.... When the FedEx Van arrived, I unloaded it myself cause I feared the driver should drop the box, as it has happened before....
Jakeboy Posted March 28, 2015 Author Posted March 28, 2015 First the case.....a nicer case I have not seen.....the polishing cloth and the Shishkov picks are classy accoutrements. My case smells like chocolate. I like chocolate. I like the case!!! Snug fit that protects the guitar perfectly. Rickenbackers are famous for the case glue having a distinctive smell. Now we have "that Shishkov smell"! Love it. I went with a bound headstock....
Jakeboy Posted March 28, 2015 Author Posted March 28, 2015 This is my dream guitar. I have wanted an Explorer shape since 1984 when I sold my '76 reissue to fund a car purchase....this is my favorite color for a guitar ever since I saw BCR Greg post it years ago....bound body, neck, headstock, crowns, and ebony board. The crowns are awesome. The side black pearl dots are awesome. Firstebony board for me and I love the feel. The neck is just perfect.... I can fly on it and I haven't even plugged her in yet!!! Great guitars often sound great acoustically. This one rings like a bell unplugged! It is very light!!! I like that too.
cmatthes Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 AWESOME!!!I've been waiting all day for this one too, Mark!Congrats...I knew you'd love it!
Jakeboy Posted March 28, 2015 Author Posted March 28, 2015 The finish and fit are absolutely perfect. Just perfect. I will plug her in tonight in my tweed 5f1 Champ...the simplest of amp circuits.....but it doesn't lie.....it tells you exactly how a guitar sounds. I am so over-the-top happy with this guitar and with the fact that I was able to get in on the Ultimate run. Mike is simply an incredible luthier...,the superlatives are almost losing meaning.....I don't know how the guitar could be better. It is my dream guitar come true...and made to perfection. Thank you Mike Shishkov for sharing the glorious gift God has given you with us. We love our Ultimates.....I will post more after I play her plugged in. Oh, the back looks all blue and purpley in natural light....the top keeps changing color.....I LOVE Oceanburst!!!!!!
Jakeboy Posted March 28, 2015 Author Posted March 28, 2015 I ordered a new, simple black strap from Jeri Hart just for this guitar....
RobB Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 I ordered a new, simple black strap from Jeri Hart just for this guitar.... Beauty guitar, Jake. The Shishkovs just keep on getting better each post. Now, do us (and yourself) favor and lower that strap down 3 or 4 notches.
GASguy Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 WoW!That top looks like the Caribbean in June!I know that really doesn't make much sense but your guitar kinda puts me at a loss for words; except forBeautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!!
Jakeboy Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 Thanks for the comments, guys! It is a stunningly beautiful piece of functional music art!LOL RobB....I find I play better with my guitars up a little so my belly button is square in the back of the guitar.
RobB Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Yeah, I kinda figured that. Thanks for not taking offense.
crunchee Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Whoo Hoo! Congrats on your new Shiskov! Who WOULDN'T want one of these? +1 on your guitar positioning, too! Playability and comfort tend to override image considerations for me anymore!
BTMN Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 SPLASSSSSH!!! Can I go for a swim? Man oh man, these are turning out to be just works of art.
foodermon Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 that just kills. congrats big time! the tops on these Ultimates are way over the top.
Boomerang~Junkie Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 This is my dream guitar. Great guitars often sound great acoustically. This one rings like a bell unplugged! It is very light!!! I like that too. These are insane! That finish looks about a foot deep - WOW!
Jakeboy Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 I played her through a tweed Champ on 6 and the cleans are wonderful! Especially in the middle position. I love both pickups ignited for cleans and cleanish rhythms.....the neck is wonderful for blues and cuts nicely.....not muddy at all...very articulate. The. bridge is just nasty and perfect. This guitar sustains incredibly. The g string sustains so much that I can feel it through my body resonating from the body around the guitar cable Jack. I was t playing at high volumes, either....I was using a Badcat Unleash attenuator......These are VERY resonant guitars. Such sustain. With the tweed Champ test out if the way, I hooked up my Lil Dawg ChocoDawg head up to a Red Fang speaker for a bit. this is a Fender brownface 6g3 Deluxe clone that is spot-on....(this is what Nugent used on Cat Scratch Fever and Stranglehold) and she came alive in a most rockin' way.....I played gobs of classic rock tunes from Aerosmith, Nazareth, Beatles, Stones, Zep, etc., etc. and my Ultimate (Jaws 2) simply shined. This is only the second neck I have ever had with binding....the neck feels.....well, expensive...like a Cadillac. And it just feels right in my hand. Great artificial harmonics jump off the ebony board. And check out the crown inlays in the pics..,they are figured...my wife actually thought the one with the waves was a flaw....until closer inspection revealed figured MOP. So not only do these Ultimates LOOK great, they SOUND great too. Grand slam here, Mr. Shishkov....
veatch Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Thanks for the comments, guys! It is a stunningly beautiful piece of functional music art!LOL RobB....I find I play better with my guitars up a little so my belly button is square in the back of the guitar. That's funny - i had to lower the strap for mine - just needed to be "slung way down low"...The g string sustains so much that I can feel it through my body resonating from the body around the guitar cable Jack. I was t playing at high volumes, either....I was using a Badcat Unleash attenuator......I noticed that as well. i can get almost sustaniac style feedback very easily on the G and D strings. I am guessing it is the chambering, but whatever it is, Mike nailed it with these guitars!Congrats, Jake! That Oceanburst is gorgeous!
gorch Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Another Ocean Burst. Looking wonderful! Congratulations! As rare as the color was in Hamer times so popular it is with the Shishkovs.
hamerhead Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Have I mentioned how much I hate you guys?Perfectly done. Again. Everything is just 'right'. Congrats, Mark! That's a gorgeous guitar.
DaveL Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 beautiful, absolutely love the shot in front of the garage.
