hamerhead Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Buddy just called. His house was broken into yesterday and his lefty sunburst Les Paul was taken. It's already been seen at one of the Madison shops (kinda hard to forget a lefty with no case). Young kid was in asking what it was worth. If you have any ideas how to catch the little bastard, I'm all ears. My buddy's called the cops, the stores, and was about to call the pawn shops.
tbonesullivan Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 definitely call pawn shops. that's one of the places that stolen musical instruments show up quite often.
bubs_42 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 If it was insured, lets just call it a mercy killing and tell him to buy a couple of Hamers.
tripp2k Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Check out Screaming Stone on FB and the web. These guys have been around for years for this sort of thing.
crunchee Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I'd think something stronger than 'medium style' would be warranted for that shitstain:
velorush Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Something just occurred to me: did they steal anything else? If not, that kind of points to a more limited group of suspects - someone familiar with the guitar, perhaps?
hamerhead Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 He lost his guitar and a cordless beard trimmer. WTF? Left jewelry and other valuable small stuff. My guess is it was somebody familiar with the neighborhood moreso than the guitar itself. They live on a semi-secluded lot just outside of the city with only a few houses nearby. So it's not like somebody was just walking by the house and decided to pop in. I'm betting it's a neighbor kid.
Studio Custom Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 A neighbor kid....with a beard!Or hairy balls.
bmenary Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 May the thief's balls shrivel up and stop working NOW
Boomerang~Junkie Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Make sure to check if any of the places have video surveillance cameras that captured him in their business with his guitar. Make certain you ask them to preserve the video and not allow their system to overwrite it. Most of the systems are on loops that overwrite the old footage every few days. If they do have it, either you should request a copy of the video or make certain you request your local police to get it. Note any copies you get will only be for your review - not really for court.
bubs_42 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 May the thief's balls shrivel up and stop working NOW Or may his ball get caught in the trimmer.

And nicely explain the theft and that if they hear anything etc and its returned maybe all will be forgiven?? If he's the forgiving sort. Were there any video cameras working at the store it showed up at? Watch CL ebay etc too
chromium Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 ^ That... go door to door under the premise of "warning the neighbors" and play up the fact that the police found some evidence, etc (even if they didn't). Might scare somebody into doing the right thing. Never know.Emblazon it on every guitar-related Facebook group imaginable as well. Just witnessed an owner of a stolen Ric 4008 8-string locate their bass this way. I'm sure the oddball/rarity factor helped out there, and it might be harder to spot a Les Paul... but worth a shot.Setup an Ebay search. I had found a forum friend's stolen Jerry Jones Neptune/longhorn this way and tipped him off (just happened to have a notification setup for JJ auctions). He had collected insurance for it about a year prior, and was able to hit the BIN and buy it back.
a.bandini Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Kathleen Edwards' '57 LP Junior was also stolen a day or so ago, or so Facebook tells me.
mrjamiam Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I'd be a little surprised - only a little - if the ad for a stolen guitar included the serial number.
hamerhead Posted August 28, 2015 Author Posted August 28, 2015 I sent him the link. My buddy lives on the west side, the shop it was seen at is on the west side, and the Bizzarre Guitar guy is on the west side. There can't be too many lefty sunburst LPs floating around that side of town, although his (I believe) was a late 90s/early 00s.I really hope it's his......
cynic Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 The first number is the last number of the year, so why not 2013? The custom stickers or whatever they are on the pg and switch cover weren't in use in 2003.
marcnorth Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 It would be nice for him if that was the one.
hamerhead Posted August 28, 2015 Author Posted August 28, 2015 Dammit. He checked the link and it's not his. His is a late '90s Honey Burst (I can't tell Gibson bursts apart). Thanks for the help guys. We'll keep looking and hope it turns up.
custom53 Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 I absolutely HATE thieve's.. I had a Les Paul Clone stolen by a "friend" who then disappeared. I hope your buddy catch's the little bastard..
