Keoghpjk Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 This might sound odd, but seeing mahogany grain like that on the edges of a guitar makes my knees weak. As much as I love seeing pretty flamed and quilted maple, it's just so much better on a bed of rich mahogany.
django49 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 ^^^^^^ And a real eyeopener to me has been finding guitars that have a body and/or neck of curly/flamed MAHOGANY (or ribbon or other unique wood grain). I cannot say that it necessarily SOUNDS better than the run of the mill stuff, but it is sure drool-worthy. And, to me, it is a real mark of someone that cares to do the best they can do in creating a guitar that is a treat for the eyes as well as the ears and hands.
Boomerang~Junkie Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 ^ ^ AGREE TOTALLY ^ ^ with Don. Its just an entirely different build level with that beautiful mahogany - wow. OK, I know this is #46's Ultimate thread and promise not to high jack it, but is #44 peaking out at us in that stack of Shishkov treasures? PS: Mike, please let me know if you received my last email?

albacore Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 Mike has now oiled the maple, which makes clear precisely how good this top is (and has led to deeper discussions about colour options). Get a load of this...
specialk Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Jeez! With a top like that, there won't be any wrong color choices.
geowolves Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Is it me or does it just keep getting better and better with the wood. Call me a schmuck cause I still have not put a deposit down on a Shishkov! One day!!! Mike you rule!!!!
Funky Chicken Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I generally prefer flame to quilt, but that is just cray.
hamerhead Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I'm gonna barf. Seasick barf, not gross ugly barf.

Steve Haynie Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Go with translucent dayglo orange and you will be able to hypnotize your audience!
DaveL Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 That looks awesome, voting for a light color... not sure what the paint guy does to treat the top prior to paint (light stain?) but if you can make it pop like that it would be killer.
Brentrocks Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 anything but red....red doesn't show quilt/flame well....IMO
