Mike Burn Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Hello and good day from Germany! I figure 78/79 Hamer Sunbursts became increasingly rare on the market. Well I own my 1979 Sunburst since 1980... that's 43 years now and the older it gets with me the fine clean dynamics do inspire me more and more. If you share the sentiment you can listen to a sound example of my guitar here:
Steve Haynie Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 That sounds great. What are you using for an amp?
veatch Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 *Very* nice! Nice layering at the intro. Mix is great! Obviously great playing as well. : ) Are the drums a loop/track, or did you play those as well? Very nice dynamics on the drums.

This guitar sounds good with almost any amp ... in this case I used a Hughes&Kettner Tubemeister 36 via DI out into the mixing desk. Right now I do not have a single unit image of it at hand, so think of the left amp here of my stereo setup for other situations (i.e. live):

I played the drums by hand via a vintage Roland JV-90 Midi-Keyboard (which has extremely sensitive keys) and used the Kontakt-Sampler "Studio Drummer" sound library for that.
specialk Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Great playing and a beautiful Sunburst. Big congrats!
jujisque Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Amazing track! I really like the composition. Varied enough to stay interesting, but not so complicated that it approaches becoming noise. Exceptionally musical.
Ian B Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Mike, it was your earlier video of this guitar that first got me interested in Hamers. After a bit of searching I managed to find a 1979 sunburst of my own. It is as you say "something very special ". I frequently return to YouTube to watch your brilliant playing.
Greg G Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to more in the future.
Dutchman Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 I liked it! Awesome clean tones are always a joy!

Welcome to the club! Congrats for your find! Do you have an image of your Hamer Sunburst? Meanwhile you should have gone through what I was experiencing very often... when I have vistors in the rehearsal room or in my studio, especially younger ones and show them my Hamer, they say typically "is this some cheap japanese LP copy HAHA?" But when I plug it in, or they take it in their own hands the jaws are dropping followed by a loud "WTF?".
