tafkathundernotes Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 Lots of my favorites have been listed, with notable exceptions:Carlos CavazoRik EmmettThese two are versatile as hell - sometimes hidden by the bands they played with.

hardheartedbill Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 I dig just about 100% of the list so far, I need to add NC boy ( and fellow redhead! ) Jimmy Herring, Jimmy is playing some of the best guitar to ever be played these days, the man is sick sick sick

Brooks Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 i'm going to leave out players whose playing i really like, yet dislike *most* of their albums, there's tons (like jimmy herring, scott henderson, allan holdsworth, dave fuiczynski, andy timmons, etc). a fave of mine has to deliver playing *and* tunes that i dig, here's my current top 2; also, jeff beck is amazing. will bernard has a cool style and cool tones. i also like several 70's guys who aren't amazing chops-wise, but have the mojo IMFO; billy gibbons, jimmy page, tony iommi.

Abaco Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 It's funny how most responses to this question usually involve a really long list of players. Trying to narrow it down....Robben Ford, Dave Meniketti, and John Sykes would be my top three.
cmatthes Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Tough to get a list that won't be 2 pages long. Some of my all-time favorites (those I can listen to anytime and they never get old) include: Elliot Easton James Honeyman-Scott Vintage EVH Pete Townshend Jeff Beck Johnny Marr Jon Brion Adrian Belew R.Nielsen (not for flash/technique, but for playing the right parts) Randy Rhodes Whitford/Perry Michael Gurley (Dada) B. Setzer Danny Gatton Malcolm & Angus (has to be together) Junior Brown George Harrison (esp. his slide stuff) Knopfler Mike Campell (Petty/Heartbreakers) Slash (no - really!) Dean DeLeo Phil Gurley (G. Aunts) J. Mascis Jim Ellison Jimmy Page and of course, Elduave and Guitarlos

I still have all of my old Y&T albums as well as the Yesterday and Today albums. Whatever happened to those guys? Hey shankyboy, Y & T is still together and still gigging!! They are ready to tour Europe towards the end of June. Go to Y&T's website http://www.meniketti.com/ You'll be able to find when their next upcoming shows will be. I happen to be a good friend of both Joey Alves (original rhythm guitarist/co-songwriter) and Leonard Haze (original drummer). Y&T is from my area of northern California and they're a great hard rock band. Dave Meniketti is a combination of Sammy Hagar's vocals with a unique style of rock guitar playing. Melodic, beautiful, yet fierce and powerful. He also has the Meniketti band where he plays his own original material which is more blues based, but sounds cool. I went on tour as road crew last year with the thrash metal band Hirax at the 2004 Swedish Rock Festival . I was hanging out, talking with John Nye (current rhythm guitarist of Y&T), drinking beer and watching Judas Priest from the audience. I was watching Ronnie Montrose on the side of the stage with Phil Kennemore (bassist of Y&T) next to me, taking digital pictures of Ronnie Montrose's band onstage and Dave Meniketti & his wife are watching Ronnie backstage on stage left. Northern California rockers are very supportive of each other!! BTW: The first two albums are hard to come by. Do you have any on CDs? Y & T plays around northern California towards the end of the year. If you decide to come to northern California, let me know. Maybe a bunch of HFC members can hook up. Guitar George
kizanski Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 How could this thread have gone on this long without mention of the great Billy Zoom?
