bubs_42 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Put faces to a ton of User Names yesterday it was fantastic. Paul Hamer was the most gracious, personable, rocking host you could have ask for. I came away with an even deeper appreciation for the guitars and the people behind them. To everyone that I crossed paths, talked to, shared a beer, and oogled over guitars with THANK YOU. SVL, thanks for hanging out and sharing stories to pass the time between events. BCRGreg, Travis, Veatch great hanging post party with you guys. I only have TWO WORDS for you guys..........
cmatthes Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Fantastic time, for sure. Any possible trainwreckery aside (don't recall any!), it was a LOT of fun.Great seeing everybody, meeting new faces and reconnecting with familiar ones.Special thanks to Paul H, the Bros Herman, Bob Schaffner and the rest of the Chicago crew. Muse once again was the consummate host. You guys/gals all rock. Hard.
ctrixie Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Good morning - you guys are awake??? Had a great time, and what a please to meet Paul Hamer and his family. And of course, see all of youse guys!
hectorp Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I think it was a near perfect day. Starting at the Cliff Dwellers with a chance to meet everyone in an awesome location overlooking Millenium Park and the Lake on a sunny day. Good food, good company. Generations of the Hamer family were there...from his mon to his grand children.Paul gave a great and emotional presentation about how it all started.(The Beatles on Ed Sullivan had something to do with it).A korina Virt and Ron Wood's Standard were on display...Bob Schaffner's wife and her colleague filmed the whole event and did interviews with various people. Then the event moved to Excalibur...an amazing venue in the nightlife nexus of the city made of collossal stones. We had a really cool room with a huge stage.Things kicked off with Paul playing a few numbers...followed by Mimi Betinis, Mike Gorman and Ned Babb playing a number from Mimi's new record and then a couple of Pezband numbers...and the night took off from there.Everyone got a chance to play and it seemed like everyone had a great time. We'll have to do this again next year. There will be a ton of pictures once eveyone gets back to their home base.Once the film is edited down, we'll figure out how to distribute it to the HFC.
serial Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I'm extremely bummed that I was unable to attend, but based on the quality of the people I've met who attended (who are among the greatest people I've e er had the pleasure to meet), I had no doubt in the success of the event-if there's another, I will NOT miss it!

bruce919 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Excellent time. A HUGE THANK YOU to Paul Hamer, Chris, & all the other who put this event together. It was great to hear the chain of events that lead to Hamer guitars & hearing the story of Hamer from a different point of view. It is always a good time visiting with fellow HFC’ers talking gear & music. I hope that more events happen like this down the road.
Travis Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I survived! It was great meeting all of you guys I've known for years and never met...We've got to do it again sometime. If nothing else, I got a new signature line out of the whole deal...
FunkyE9th Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Had a great time! The view from Cliff Dweller's was awesome and Excaliber was a really cool venue to have the jam. Thanks to all involved in putting this together. And as usual, always a good time to meet fellow HFCers.

BruceM Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Robb just dropped me off at home in Mpls. What a great day yesterday! Paul Hamer's presentation yesterday was inspirational. And of course, it's always great to see all my old HFC friends, and to meet a few new ones. This place is the best. After I get settled in, I'll try to get a few pics posted. Can't wait to see the jam pics. The music was hot and heavy all night long, and I finally became accustomed to the volume level. Good stuff all night.
BCR Greg Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Good Lord, was that fun.Paul Hamer for President of the United States of America. Finally the TRUE story of Hamer guitars is told, by the man that started Hamer guitars in 1974. We were treated to such a warm and honest welcoming by the whole family, fed great food in a room that few get to sit in and treated to some great music by a wide array of styles and talents.I just got home, so I'm going upload my pics to photobucket, eat dinner with the family and go to bed.EVERYONE was great, without exception.

veatch Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Good times indeed. I've been working 16 hour days (on a good day), and this was the first day off i've had in six weeks. It was well worth the wait. I truly enjoyed every minute. Except when i pulled Greg's finger. As said, Paul was a tremendous host. For those that didn't have the pleasure to go, you would be hard pressed to find a nicer guy. So, pics: Do we want them here, or in the original thread? Might make sense to keep it all there to make it easier to find 2 years from now... Anywho, i'll get any jam pics that came out up later, but here are some of the more interesting pics, at least IMHO. Crappy Cell Phone Camera, so no lighting critiques, please. A view from inside the Cliff Dwellers club. A place where i would never dream to be able to visit if not for the graciousness of Mr. Hamer: OK, a more serious view: The scene outside The Excalibur: They take their dress code seriously there: After the Jam, Greg, Travis, Shawn, and i seem to have figured out it was homecoming. Lots of drama was unfolding, and i missed the picture of the guy carrying his date fireman style after the roophies kicked in. But, we think we found her shoes. They must have fit someone else, because in the five minutes it took to circle back with the car, they were long gone... And back at the hotel, the half-eaten Ho-Ho on the awning below us. I noted that even the birds wouldn't eat that thing. Greg noted that since it was half eaten, it was actually a "Ho". Restaurant across the street from the Hotel (Wok This Way). Greg and i both went into Aerosmith mode: Thanks to everyone that made this happen. It was great to finally meet at least some of you. The jam was killer.
DavidE Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Finally the TRUE story of Hamer guitars is told, by the man that started Hamer guitars in 1974. I've heard many references to Jol's version of Hamer's history as often involving revisionist history, but I wonder if it's a difference in perspective or if it's more than that.I'm looking forward to the video of the speech. I think it will be awesome to FINALLY hear his side of the story.

cmatthes Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Guys - we just had a FANTASTIC weekend in Chicago, courtesy of Paul and some of the long-time Hamer/Northern Prairie gang. It really isn't the intent to plant any negativity here. We were treated to a different perspective from the man who was there from the beginning and what got him started off down a path that ultimately, brings us all together. Let's not sully that. Paul's presentation was at times lighthearted, at times moving, but at all times engaging. Getting to hear the personal history (starting from his childhood), was something that poured directly from his own heart and soul. The pictorial history was more than I think any of us had expected, and I'm just glad that there were people around with cameras back when it all unfolded. The entire event was recorded by a wonderful team of filmmakers, and I look forward to not only reliving some of those moments, but being able to share them with those of us who were unable to attend. Ride the high, guys, ride the high!
gfc55 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Thanks to all who helped put this event together. It was great to see old friends, put some new faces to names, and spend some time with a great group of people. I'm always amazed that even though we don't see each other that often, the people I've met at the HFC always treat each other like great old friends. I appreciate the opportunity to have been there!

Ride the high, guys, ride the high! Still riding the high. I'm sure those that didn't attend will enjoy the footage and the history but to be in that room with a group of people that were there for all the right reasons, sharing and enjoying the moments, it will not be forgotten. Paul was from the heart and I took away way more than just bits and pieces of info about guitars. It was just so much more. That night at the Jam I don't think there was a stranger in the house whether you met 40 years or 5 minutes ago. There wasn't a moment that went by that you didn't notice someone giving a nod and smile to one another.
