carfish7 Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Too much upcharge for "celebrity owned" stuff if you ask me. Definitely. Him owning these guitars adds about $50 to their value. Yeah, but just wait for his sister Moon Unit's "V" to come up for auction......Someone might have to just snatch that one up. Moon's got a V? Isn't Moon, um, a girl?!
Bennyboy-UK Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I liked his playing on the diving board on this... But not as much as what Robin Trower is doing
kizanski Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Price aside, thats one cool gold top !!Really, when you look at the Dweezil Hamers that are for sale, the GT Standard is the most reasonably-priced one in the lot. There's a Korina Standard from the first run of 100 for $5000 (or twice what it's worth), a Korina Vector from the first run of 72 for $5000 (or twice what it's worth), a three hole DuoTone for $2000 (or twice what it's worth), a '93 Studio GT for $2500 (or thrice what it's worth), and the GT Standard. If you had to custom order one like it (and you'd have to, because it's a guitar with a bunch of custom options), you'd probably pay that much for it anyway.Strings through the body, gold paint, P-90s, and a matching, bound headstock will run the price up pretty quickly. For $4000, you'd have it NOW, and you could say it was owned by Moon Unit's brother.
singlehum Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Paul Gilbert's pinhole surveillance camera...haha.
kizanski Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Paul Gilbert's pinhole surveillance camera...haha.I think I'd rather have that one than Bubba The Love Sponge's.
cynic Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 ...and you could say it was owned by Moon Unit's brother. It's a Dean or Schecter fan's dream Hamer

Cary Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Adding a bit of speculation: So why is he selling?Run out of money? You mean run out of his dad's money?
Zelko Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Too much upcharge for "celebrity owned" stuff if you ask me.No kidding - Brad Whitford's Eclipse is listed on gbase for $1995!
formula73 Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Jesus Christ! The only one that interests me is that 029 Standard because I have the 029 Vector, but for 5k, it had better come with a new piece of arse because it'll damn sure ruin my marriage.
Tah-lee Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 I love Dweezil. Ever since around '86 when he released the album with the green Charvel and the ungroomed eyebrows...

burningyen Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Man, Dweezil's getting the business in this thread. He seems like a cool dude from what little I know of him. I think it's good that these guitars are getting moved out if they're not getting played. The prices are high, but it's a free market.
svl Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Dweezil is a decent dude, and a damn decent player. It's too bad he didn't sell the geets himself and cut out the middle man price gouging, but that's not how it's done in Celebrityville, Hollyweird.
bcsride Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 I'm not someone who's willing to pay an upcharge for celebrity owned. If I buy it, I'll play it and get my non-celebrity all over it. But, yeah if your the type, these seem like cool guitars. I love the gold top standard. But the $2500 or so celebrity owned premium prevents me from giving it any serious consideration. If I could buy that guitar for $4k and play as well as Dweezil, I might consider it.
cmatthes Posted October 23, 2012 Author Posted October 23, 2012 Oh, I think the Gold Standard is priced close to where it should be - maybe $500 or so high, but not bad at all when you consider what it is and what it would cost to have one made like that. It would easily be more than they're asking, and I factor celebrity ownership in as exactly $0.00. I will say that I've seen Dweezil play live a few times (most recently at a PRS Factory Open House and at the most recent "Experience Hendrix" tour), met him briefly once. The guy is an amazing player, and in the 5 or so minutes I chatted with him, he seemed like a decent, funny guy. Not rushed or looking over my shoulder to see where he needed to go next, but actually engaged in the conversation. That's gotta be tough to do in its own right. He has lots of original stuff, apparently, but has focused more on forwarding his Dad's legacy in recent years - that's 100% his right. Now about that Lisa Loeb thing...
HAMERMAN Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 I wish he would get back to making his own music, I still like his first couple of solo albums a lot.

Waitaminnit...Who's snatching Moon Unit's V?.... Seriously, he's a great player/dude that is having someone broker some deals on his behalf. I'm sure he has no problem accepting MORE money, and if he can get it, right on. That particular Duotone, however, is one that I will definitely have to pass on.
alantig Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Unless I miss my guess, that Duo-Tone dates back to the Z days. I have Mike Keneally's 3-holer from then - bought it around 2001 (hard to believe it was that long ago!). Dweezil's was for sale a couple months later for about $850, and I couldn't bring myself to pay the extra bucks to complete the set.Alan
MCChris Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Now about that Lisa Loeb thing... Sharp knees?
