HSB0531 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I've heard Yuri is good; I've seen Mike's work and he's no slouch lol. My deposit was mailed in and I know that something very nice will be delivered when it is ready. I am glad to support "the little guy" who has standards (pun intended) and a plan. Already the wheels are churning in terms of the future custom builds. Maybe something that combines korina and triple-coils... Not being able to put down a deposit at the moment only gives me more time to iron out the details of wait I really want. All I know for sure is, it won't be in clownburst
zorrow Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I'm in no run yet in spite of getting in very early, as my quote was for a CO instead of for The Ultimate. No problem though. I've had time to think about what I exactly want and in addition it will be doable.
sixesandsevens Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 2001 Standard Custom. Wonder how much Shishkov is in this one? I wonder the same thing on my Standard 12 bass. Man, you guys need to stop posting these natural finish standards... It's making me rethink a sunburst!
aknapp Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I didn't read all 23 or so pages of the other thread, but is Mike Shishkov related to the fender Custom Shop Yuri Shishkov? the guy who brought us this Strat? That's pretty nice.... Now all it needs is gold strings.
mc2 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 If Shiskov TRULY wants to follow in the footsteps of Hamer, he should tell ALL you guys to FUCK OFF.....and make his FIRST BUILD A STANDARD BASS...for ME SN001 Just like Martin Turner's.

cmatthes Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Seriously! My 16 year old son has already put aside his money for a down-payment for a bass when Mike opens that door...
BTMN Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 Sounds like Shishkov should have a good first year or so huh?Perhaps by then I might be ready for my 55th birthday guitar to be ordered.
sixesandsevens Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Anyone know anything about the pickups Mike's planning to use for the Ultimates?

I already tried that! I figured you already had Martins and was just not letting us see it yet. I heard he sold it. I got in a quote for something before he shut it down, I figure it will be awhile before I hear back.
cmatthes Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Anyone know anything about the pickups Mike's planning to use for the Ultimates?Mike is still working out the details on that, but they will be cool. Stuff to be revealed after he gets it all finalized.
BTMN Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 Bump cause Iwanna...... Edited to add: First posting of production beginnings. OH YEAH!!!!!!! Very exciting week at the Shishkov Shop. Electrician was here and powered everything up. My wife is going to kill me when she sees the next electric bill. Curly maple tops are on the way. will post some pics when they come in. Logos came in from a very good friend of ours who has been making logos for my brother for a long time. Holy crap does it take a long time to get a hold of some suppliers. I really miss my scmi pin router, but this is my new friend that I am going to get to know very well. a mahogany block from my special stash, but a whole lot more is on the way. Spindle sander is ready to go! Oh yeah, and the logos More updates to come shortly. Have a great 4th of July weekend and thanks for your support!
hikarateboy Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Anyone know anything about the pickups Mike's planning to use for the Ultimates?I do. The Ultimates will come with a custom set of the legendary Shlabotnik Pickups wound exclusively for Shishkov Guitars by Josh Gravelin. The exact design is still being prototyped so that they are a perfect match for the Ultimate special run. They will be available separately so anyone can be drop them into their existing guitar but not until prototyping and build for all Ultimates is complete. The descriptions should tip you off as to what sounds are being targeted. Meet Grace (Ultimate neck) and Enola (Ultimate Bridge) Shlabotnik.Grace is the full bodied older sister with a sweet but clear singing voice that sounds amazing whether in the swamps of Mississippi or on the streets of Statesboro. If this pickup were a candy bar she'd be very similar to an "Almond Joy". Reversed zebra bobbins as sported by similar early classics with short serial numbers. Enola is a sassy younger sister with the strong, smokey and rebellious voice. She is based upon and similar to a classic 50's PAF and will built with components that are true to her heritage. She will have a bit more grunt than here vintage cousins but will clean up and chime nicely when you roll back the volume knob. She will want you to want her and when you finally surrender you'll find heaven tonight. Double cream-like bobbins. While both both pickups have a classic feel and vintage vibe, They are strong modern products of today and every string rings clear thru the bridge pickup due to the proper spacing. Plans are also on the table for two additional single coil and a humbucker model Hazel Shlabotnik has a throaty hippy single coil vibe that belies her time traveling to upstate New York during the late 60s where free love was all the rage. As such she is happy in any position, neck middle or bridge. Peggy Sue Shlabotnik - A single coil with the classic vibe right down to the poodle skirt. Charlotte Shlabotnik - A denizen of Acacia Avenue area in London after leaving her classic upbringing, Charlotte has issues and they can be expressed in both whimper and scream.Humbucker Details: PLEASE NOTE: These may change during the prototyping process in order to ensure a perfect fit in the Ultimates.- Neck PU: 49.2mm spacing, initial prototype built around an Alnico 2.- Bridge PU: 50mm spacing, initial prototype built around an Alnico 5.The classic PAFs used 49.2mm on both HB sets for the sake of ease, but the strings never line up correctly with the pole pieces on the bridge pickup and as such Shlabotnik bridge pickups will feature a 50mm spacing.- 42 AWG coil wire- Nickel Silver HB pickup frames- Handmade Minnesota Maple wood spacers- Steel 10 hole keeper bar- Steel Slug poles- Steel Screw poles- Lightly wax potted.Edited to correct the spelling of Shlabotnik. Sorry for any confusion.
polara Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Um, Ted. That is WAY too realistic a satire! Trademarking the Shlobotnik Pickups name WOULD be a very funny stroke of genius, though. Nice ad copy too
ptm1diver Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Anyone know anything about the pickups Mike's planning to use for the Ultimates? Duncan Designed pickups like on the Korean Hamers... No, but I would guess they are pretty good. If you want special pickups, then I would suggest asking him if you can get them and have him do the install when setting up the guitar. That's what I did on a custom build from another builder. But I would not expect a break in price. Just my 2 cents worth. However, I think he is swamped with email and questions and working to get up and running, so don't be upset is it takes a few days for a response.
Disturber Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 His name is Shablotnik. And if Mike succeeded in hunting him down I doubt he'll discuss pickups until the World Championship in soccer is over in Brazil. He's a dead hard soccer fan. Even inked a fotball to his left buttocks at the age of 75. I think he's in Rio right now watching the games, having a bud. If he decides to do some winding again, now that would be super cool. You'll have to get him of those Brazilian hookers first too. I heard he's getting laid A LOT down on the Copacabana.
Jakeboy Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Too bad Ted was being satirical......I liked those descriptions...lol!

The Ultimates will come with a custom set of the legendary Shlobotnik Pickups wound exclusively for Shishkov Guitars by Josh Gravelin. If he's really gonna ™ the Sh-word, we need to standardize the spelling. Ted, who I thought was in the know, spelled it with an "o" and not an "a" it seems. It does have a nice assonance or consonance or whatever with Shishkov.
velorush Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Pay no attention to various aka's and aliases used by Joe over the years. His service in the OSS and other 'agencies' may have led to a few other derivatives, but Kiz has the historically correct spelling.
