Northfield Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 While it is a slow process in a one man shop, it is exciting to finally have Ultimates in various stages of the build process all at once. To have reached a point where I have a top being glued up, headstocks getting their peg head overlays attached, another neck ready for tapering and the next body ready to have its top sealed on is a testament to just how far my new venture has come along in the past few months. I have to say, it has been a good week (despite the day spent wrestling with the sander that just didn't want to cooperate).
HSB0531 Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Things are looking up for a 2015 Shishkov order.I'm torn between an exact reproduction of 0531, or something entirely different.Maybe both?
Thundersteel Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 One-piece quilted maple tops? That's a visual orgasm right there!
HSB0531 Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 And the Hamer tradition continues.Different name on the headstock but....Same passion.Same premium woods.Same craftsmanship.
cmatthes Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 One-piece quilted maple tops? That's a visual orgasm right there!Bookmatched (two piece), but still mind-blowingly great looking stuff. I didn't see a dud in the whole pile when I stopped by a while back. Everybody is going to be more than happy with these!
DBraz Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Incredible work Mike. You had a great vision and it's lovely to see it all coming together. The quality looks unsurpassed. At least it does in comparison to anything I have seen mid build! AWESOME!
serial Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 This is one of my favorite pics yet! Holy ----!!!
Bobby Marshall Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Matching headstock overlays??!?This first batch is gonna send a message.
The Shark Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Fantastic! I think I'll be saying that over and over and over and over...
HSB0531 Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Mike is keeping with the Hamer tradition of showing the progress of the build. This alone makes the desire to buy one more desirable.I for one appreciate the continuation.Hamer was under direction of Jol, but the talent was what made the end result.
polara Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 I'm pretty psyched. I know I've ordered about as "plain" an Ultimate as possible - dots on rosewood, natural finish - but in a way I think the unadorned nature will really highlight the quality of the wood and the build.
Northfield Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 Gluing the fingerboard to the neck is a very important step and the way that we did it at Hamer is absolutely ingenious. Now onto the binding...... I machine my own strips to ensure a perfect edge.
RobB Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Gluing the fingerboard to the neck is a very important step and the way that we did it at Hamer is absolutely ingenious. Awesome post, Mike! What are the mechanics behind the clamping block with the side cuts? I was thinking maybe that if it flexes a little bit it will keep the neck blank from compressing too much during glue-up?
Bobby Marshall Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Bound six in line headstocks just make me feel all tingly, like when I climbed the rope in gym class. Schwing!
cmatthes Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I know EXACTLY how you feel, Bobby Marshall!
