I'm getting ready to start the adventure of out-of-state tuition for my second, so there is no way I'll afford that. Is it one of my two "Grail" guitars? Yes. Am I getting it? No, unless Steve somehow falls and hits his head! Have you seen his will? Are you sure? Do you two still talk to each other after this?
cmatthes Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Steve's still selling it - I'm just not in any position to buy it from him.
serial Posted April 11, 2016 Author Posted April 11, 2016 First to commit gets it. LOTS of interest on this one, which is not a surprise. I need to stop opening the case and looking at it! Neck profile is a really nice medium-a lot like some of my four digit Standards, but the fingerboard feels wider (in a good way). That resolves the one issue I've had with many old Sunbursts. Frets are great.
serial Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 Quite a few emails offering partial trades. To be totally honest, I'm not really looking for another guitar. For in-person transaction, I might be interested in a partial trade for classic firearm(s) (although ship to my local dealer would work too). ...or another Corvette.
crunchee Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I gather that the 'SMG' on the headstock stands for 'Sam Moss Guitars'. Or 'Sub-Machine Gun'. Either way, it sure is purty. GLWTS!
cmatthes Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Yes indeed. The late, great Sam Moss. I spent some very memorable hours at 825 Burke St. in the '80s...
tommy p Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 This first one with the Standard headstock had me drooling at the book signing, but that green one is pretty hot too.

Disturber Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I's say that the price for this guitar is more than fair. It's a one-off, and dead cool. I restringed the Duoglide last weekend and have played her all week. I just had forgot how great it is. Also one from Sam Moss, the Electraglide sister. It has a faster attack than an old Sunburst, due to the thick maple cap. Really a totally different feel to the guitar. A different weapon!
serial Posted April 15, 2016 Author Posted April 15, 2016 SOLD! Someone will be getting a great one!!
cmatthes Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I am BEYOND jealous, but happy for the new owner.
Hamerica Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Congrats to the new owner and the seller. Hamerica

So...perhaps this is a better analog: 1970 King Cobra prototype styled by Larry Shinoda and powered by a massive, hemi-headed Boss 429 V-8. Perhaps, but no, Mr. Biz, for as ya'll can see... ...there is more. Upside for you is that the orange one is for sale; http://tinyurl.com/mfgfpcv

Everyone knows this guitar and how awesome and rare it is. A complete custom order in 1985, I hunted this guitar down for 17 years after seeing it in Sam Moss' shop in Winston-Salem, NC shortly after it arrived. One of only 4-5 carved top originalSunbursts, it just doesn't get much better than this one. Of all of the carved-tops, this one has the nicest figure and color. Guitar is pristine and has been very well cared for over the years and plays and sounds great. One tiny finish chip (visible in big photo) that is a stupidly simple fix. Bottom photo more accurately captures what this one looks like. With original rectangular Hamer HSC with Sam Moss swag included. Featured in my Hamer book, I'm sure this is one that I'll regret letting go someday. $6000, which is a bit less than the quote I got to build another one when they finally agreed to think about making one a few years back. Not really looking for trades at this point, but there are a VERY few things I might consider as a partial trade, but would still be looking for mostly cash deal. My HFC box is full, so if interested, email me at 'serialsteve79AThotmailDOTcom'. Oh thank you very much. Everybody out at once.
cmatthes Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I have no idea what that meant, but I laughed anyway.
Disturber Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Congrats to the new owner. Measure the body, if it is as thick as a Les Paul. The Duoglide is thicker than a Sunburst, Studio or Artist. It's as thick as my friends 70's Les Paul. So it's the Hamer I have that comes closest to an LP. Not that it matters to me, I just think it's a cool thing that makes it even more special and unique.
Brentrocks Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 DAMMMMMMM....what an historic piece to add to a collection
