PSA: Did anyone see these Expandoras?

Hmm…. Never heard of them…

I remember these little guys from the mid 1990s!  I don't remember the little toggle switches on the front, but a little internet research just now showed me that the units used to have internal dip switches instead.

I remember Billy Gibbons having a daisy-chained set up of Expandoras, just like in the photo you posted...but, knowing Gibbons' knack for 'embellishing' his gear choices, i wonder how many of those Expandoras were actually used in the signal chain at one time.  I'm also wondering if the '32 Ford-like Hot Rod artwork on the Expandora RI box is a 'tip of the hat' reference to Billy's previous use of those, or just a coincidence?

He never used them live, they were stage art. Just like those stack of Crate Amps or anything else you see out front.

Yep - daisy-chaining 6 of those would've gotten nothing but a big pile of sludge tone.

Whoa, guitarists wouldn't be completely forthcoming about their gear and settings?  Color me shocked!

Seems like the JHS Kilt is pretty close, and easier to find.

I had one in the early 2000's with the internal switches, its was nothing spectacular, just a fuzz with more fart & belch options.  The ZZ top connection is what got me interested in trying out. It didn't last long be for it was flipped back out into the world.

I LOVE the Kilt V2 w/ Red Remote. Really a super versatile, amazing drive pedal. From edge of breakup to fat gated fuzz.

These are made by my good friend Brad Kaufman. He has really put a fair amount of effort in to these. He was able to put one into the hands of Rev. Billy G’s tech last month when the Top played Tampa. They liked the unit. Brad is good people too. If you have visited the ESP booth at NAMM you May have met him as he has worked that a few times. We are connected through the Dean Owners Association.

I think he did an excellent job with the aesthetics of both the case and the box.

I seem to recall there was a time when JHS wasn't really forthcoming about it being a clone of an Expandora. But that was a time when he really wouldn't admit that his whole lineup was clones.

This is true of nearly every pedal available.

What? They did a whole video when they released it and it was pretty obvious it was a clone.

Same story here. Except I sold off a wife gift, and  even though it wasn't great  the cool ones don't happen very often.

As if you wife needed another reason to talk behind your back or utter your name under her breathe.

Most of the stuff onstage is scenery/prop value.
