The problem with the Super Pro is that it is missing the center block. It's totally hollow under the bridge pickup. Low output pickups, (to my ears - and it drove me nuts), makes it sound like a big acoustic guitar with a humbucker innit. It sounded fine when played at moderate levels. I've tried many bridge pickups in my Super Pro. Never satisfied with the tone when the guitar was loud. But since I stuck a 1970's JB in there I am satisfied. And an old Duncan Custom in the neck. I had the Duncan/Fender EVH humbucker in the bridge for a while. It is similar to the original Custom Custom, but with an Eddie twist. It also sounded good, but not as good as the JB with the A5 mag, which makes it tighter. I had a 10K Slammer in there and the 17K Slammer as well. 10K sounded acoustic, the 17K worked. But not as good as the old JB. I find that hot pickups works best with the Super Pro construction. Hamer put hot pickups in there for a reason. They absolutely knew their shit when they constructed these guitars and choose the pickups for it. If I want to rock out I usually have the volume on 8-9 on the bridge, and most often at 10 on the neck volume. I bring the bridge volume down even more for a more Paf-like Gibson LP type of tone. Works like a charm. The openess of the body needs a hot tight pickup to balance it out. The only guitar I have that I think benefits from a compressor pedal is also the Super Pro, to dial out that nasty feel of an acoustic guitar. Just a tad of compression, but the guitar likes it for a good hard rock tone. Not necessary, but it brings in some extra mojo and focuses the tone. Especially the low E-string can ring like on an acoustic guitar, very hard to dial out. When I play the Super Pro through a Deluxe Reverb, or similar, with a clean tone or slightly over driven, I just roll the volume down to perhaps 5-6. Then I get the output of a weaker paf. But It still does not sound so damn acoustic, like it did when I've had weak pickups innit. It just sounds way better with the old JB and the volume down to half than with a 7,5-8k paf style humbucker. The only paf-style humbucker that I thought sounded good in the SP was an old busted up Gibson Burstbucker in the bridge, and it was the best Keef sounding guitar I've heard. (I should have kept that humbucker in a drawer, damn fool to sell it, so dirty sounding). But as soon as I plugged the guitar into my Marshall and turned up the volume I sounded like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. So hot pickups is where it's at for the Super Pro, take my word for it. edit: I also adjust the pickups much farther from the strings than I would on a solid body. Use your ears. They should sound and react more like paf's, even if they are hot. That is when you hit the sweet spot. Btw, I also put a small piece of cloth - like the size of a small sock - inside the guitar at the top side of the block that is under the bridge. It dampens the guitar just a tad. I tried different sizes and one, or more pieces in different places in the guitar to dampen. To much kills the tone so I just have a very small cloth in there to keep the air from moving all around the bridge. You might like it, you might not. But I can be worth a try. It's a cheap way to mess with the tone of the SP.4 points

Ok, got the guitar. The case has some wear but the actual guitar could be sold as new in a store ... it's kinda crazy. There is a bit of paint stuff on either side of the nut, not on the back of the headstock but on the sides ... which happened a lot even if you bought the thing in the store new. The guitar also came with unfilled warranty card which states the guitar was shipped with .009s. When tuned to pitch, the term is perfectly flat and I'm sitting there wondering if the strings have ever been changed ???? Yes ... that mint. The input jack does have some issues, I sprayed deoxit in there but it seems as though you have to be careful with that jack. Any ideas for further cleaning would be great ... also, as strange as this might sound ... there are 1/4" jacks that are just a touch bigger than others and it could be the jack on the planet waves cable is just a bit smaller ... in any case I'd love to hear thoughts on this. Neck feels pretty good to me, I'll string it up with some new stings in the next few days .. I want it to acclimate to the new environment before I set anything up .... seems like it just needs a new set of strings and possible intonation ... we will see. I'll take some more pics when I get a free moment and post here. I just look at it and think ... this thing is 41 years old????3 points

I installed a pair in my Navigator Explorer. Perfect match, albeit a bit microphonic if I stand too close to a raging Marshall.2 points

It showed up today. I played many of the presets through headphones. I have no doubt I will get my $55 worth. 🥳 The controls are simple but were not intuitive to bry4321. It didn't come with a manual or quick start guide, so when I got stuck I watched a minute of a YouTube "how to" video on my phone. Again, simple once I knew which buttons did what. Eventually I looked at the online manual on their website (!). Haven't tried the other features yet. I downloaded the app but haven't tried that either. OK, candidate for worst review ever BUT I will say the built-in tuner is easy to use and I used it to help intonate my guitar a bit. Now I am contemplating this Pocket Control thing:1 point

Over the past couple of years I've slowly gone to 9s in standard tuning and 10s when a half step down. Bigger necks have helped a lot but it meant giving up my favorite '81 Special (I just didn't use it anymore). My #1 LP is the exception (slim taper) but it's such a heavy pig it sees less action now, too. The Shishkov and Jr. (fat necks/light weights) have become the go-tos. For your pains, try magnesium glycinate. My back loves it, as does my left forearm. Of course, check with your doctor before blahblahblahblahblah.......1 point

Went out with my wife and a whole bunch of bandmates, local musicians and legends to catch Del Amitri in a tiny club (Atlantis) on Sunday night. They’re always phenomenal live, but I really wanted to catch one of my favorite local acts, Dot Dash, who was the opener. As my wife and I were enjoying a cold beverage on the rooftop deck, Hunter Bennett from Dot Dash came over and said “Chris! My Hamer guru!”. We’ve chatted online for years about gear, specifically Hamers, and he has some incredible stuff (including Tom Petersson’s old 8 String FB, and a green flametop B-08M that was custom ordered by somebidy here years ago. Anyway, he let me know he was slinging his latest - a set neck mid-80s Cruisebass with an amburburst flame top. Hunter is an incredible player, and is a cool combination of Peter Hook, Bruce Foxton, Entwistle and the lead bassist from Ned’s Atomic Dustbin. 😉 Really a solid and talented guy, and always has the best tone live. Anyway, here’s a crappy pic or two for y’all, but seriously check out their stuff - great catalog1 point

This one kinda hit me in the feels. I had been exposed to blood sweat and tears as a boy via their eponymous album that was given to my older sister, who then quickly handed it down to me. Apparently she did not find the dynamic mixture of rock, blues, and jazz all that appealing. Even back then as a sheltered, white suburban kid, I recognized the incredible energy and soul in his singing. RIP David Clayton-Thomas!1 point

I have found that larger necks are less stress on my hands than thinner ones. I know this seems counter intuitive to some people, but it requires less pressure than squeezing a thinner neck arniez1 point

Mine is a bit more customized I guess. Korina body and neck, f holes, upgraded binding, etc....All from the factory, not aftermarket, aside from the MaryAnn/Ginger poker chip. It has the regular wind Lollar Imperials, not low wind. A great match. YMMV, of course. Of the very many Hamers I have owned, this is probably the last one I will ever let go. To extent DCR is meaningful, the Custom Custom is around 14, while the Imperials are designed to be "PAF style", at around 7.6 and 8.4, with the low winds being a bit lower. I am inclined to think the low wind might be less desirable, though they are touted as being a good match for hollow and semi hollow guitars. I have multiple guitars with the Imperials and never have been disappointed. FWIW, a more recent acquisition has the high wind in the bridge. In that guitar I think it works great, though I might add each pickups has a 3 way switch to go from series to parallel to single coil. In that case, I think the higher wind gives more versatility, as you can dial back the output.....But you most likely do not want to mess with adding holes to yours for mini-switches. 😉To be clear, this guitar does NOT have any such switching, just the regular 3 way.1 point

I just got it. I really dig it for a lot of reasons. It looks so bad-ass. Sounds killer. Roy loaded mine with their hotter/fatter 'Fat Daddy' pickups which make it a bit more of a rocker than a standard Strat. I also had him put in a 'Blender' pot, so I can mix in the Bridge pickup to any switching combo for all or neck/bridge tones. Nice. The reverse headstock is weird, but you get used to where the correct tuner is. It does feel a bit different in that the bass strings have a longer headstock length. I'm not a big Strat trem guy, so that's fine being backward. RS is so easy to work with, you can have the trem normal or reverse. (Not everyone realizes, SRV had a reverse Trem on his #1) Why I love RS, they just feel so good. The necks are amazing. Nice rolled fingerboard edges and a silky nitro finish. To me, if it doesn't 'feel' good, forgetaboutit. I won't play it. All in all, I love it. RS and the team makes such nice axes. That's why I keep coming back for more!1 point

Let's take a minute to consider how this video is taking over the internet. 1,200,000 views in 12 days. And 10,000 comments. Seems a lot of people are sharing this video with their friends. The comments are gold, by the way. "It's abundantly clear that these guys are on the frontlines of whatever this is." "This is the Future we were Primused" "Finally, music 2 has dropped" "when even the riff has a french accent" "Best sounding salt and pepper shakers on the current market"1 point
