JohnnyThunders Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Was trolling thru the channels and caught Joan Jett and the Blackhearts on Guitar Sessions live with Nic Harcourt. I was a little shocked at her appearance, she had some major plasitc work and didn't look like th Joan I remembered. The it hit me, last time I saw her up close was 1977/8 during the infamous Agora John W parking lot incident. I saw her again sometime in the 80's but was too far back and didn't get a good look at her. So they did the interivew, play a song, interview, song etc that they do, I hate it personally. Play then talk or vice versa but back and forth sucks. Sounded great, loved their guitar sound and look. The lead guitar player had a bunch of stickers on his guitar including a Johnny Thunders one and spikey hair, oh my!So, next day I'm reading the Plain Squealer and there it is Wednesday December 18th Hard Rock Racino, Northfield Ohio Joan Jett Jett and the Blackhearts opening night. This is about a half mile from my house. I'm there.Weird side note, about 6 or 7 years ago I was getting my living room painted and getting an estimated on my basement. We go in the basement and they guy is checking out my guitar room and sees the album cover I have above my wall racks. He sees the Runaways and album and goes, I was Cherie Currie's guitar player for 15 years in LA but came back home to Cleveland because I needed a real job. He saw the standard, turned it over and said, "wow a 4 digit" can I play it. He plugged in and man the guy had some killer chops. He later told hin he was also in the hair metal scene in a band called Defcon in Akron Ohio.Small world.
polara Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Crazy!I saw Joan last year here in Atlanta. She came on stage with the Foo Fighters to do Bad Reputation. With four guitars the sound was pretty um… full. Does she have an autobiography? What a life...
iownit4 Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 joan is great I own a recording studio in Staten Island New York ironically call cherry bomb studio and Tommy price herlong time drumner does a lot of his tracking work at my place. Cool cat..

dragan Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 thanksgivng day she was on tv at one of the parades . shes about my age & I thought she looked different , but I just figured shed aged a bit & I hadnt seen her in awhile
tbonesullivan Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 If she had plastic surgery, it was very well done. She doesn't have any of the tell-tale signs of having had it done. Then again I don't ever think I've seen her with a tan (unlike lita ford and other runaways alums) which really does help you not look horrible as you age. if you look at pictures over the years, the changes into what she is now have been pretty gradual. You can't compare a person in their late teens early 20s to when they are in their 50s. Facial structure changes over time due to loss of collagen, also loss of "baby fat" etc. I mean hell look at how much Pete Townshend's face changed over the first decade of the who. Also if you look at some of the more "revealing" photos of her from the past 5 years, her face isn't the only thing that has aged very well. She's quite in shape, minimal extra weight, and seems to have taken very good care of herself over the years.

Brooks Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Coney Island White Fish is slang for a used rubber, ha
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I really liked her in Light of Day and thought it was a killer soundtrack.Am I alone in that?
dragan Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 No ! cool tune , "Light of Day", played that song a lot through the early 2000s .Great open "E " jam
LordOfTheThighs Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 LOVE JJ.Bad Reputation is one of my Top 10 fav albums. Classic. (I really like all her stuff). One of her shows I was at, back in '86 or '87, was SO effin' loud. It was great! She really connects with her audience when she's performing.
jwhitcomb3 Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 My favorite Joan Jett album is "Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth", followed closely by, um, "Album." Her cover of "New Orleans" is simply killer.Rock distilled to its purest form.
BTMN Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Joan was going to be on the South Dakota state sponsored float at the Macy's parade but the S.D. cattlemens association raised a fuss because Joan is a Vegan. They felt that it would reflect bad on S.D. and got her off the float or the sponsorship wasn't mentioned. Either way Joan was on TV and sang and I'm sure got paid. She also recently cancelled a date at Seaworld here in Florida along with a number of other artists over the documentary Blackfish CNN did about the Killer Whales at Seaworld. She also has had them stop using I Love RNR as the intro ong for ashow called Shamu Rocks at the place.
jisham Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Great artist who can do whatever the f&*k she wants at this point IMO. And good on her and the other artists for bailing on Seaworld. Cheap Trick just cancelled too.
MCChris Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 All the other stuff aside, for shooing away Barenaked Ladies, Seaworld is OK in my book.
Jakeboy Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Love Fake Friends...my fave JJ tune. Love those crunchy guitars!
crunchee Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 South Dakota's loss. If she plays my BBQs, I'll cook all the tofu burgers she can eat.
Brooks Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 watched the guitar cnt ses today, they sounded great. also enjoyed korn the other week, and i'm not a fan.
Toadroller Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 My brother ran his college's campus activities board in the Boston area back in the mid 80s and got to hire acts, including Til-Tuesday, The Fools, O-Positive, Farrenheit, and Joan Jett. He got to pick her up at Logan and drive her back to campus. He said she was simply down to earth and cool. Talked the whole way, smoked.I've always loved the Crimson and Clover cover, and yes, Light of Day was a fun movie. Need to see it again.
tmsfo Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I saw the guitar center thing - I thought she was humble, sounded great, and did not look like a plastic surgery disaster - to the contrary, I think she's just got a 55 year old mug!
LordOfTheThighs Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 The audio on this is great. Did I mention I'm in love with Joan?
cmatthes Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 A friend's wife still keeps in touch with Joan, and has since she quit school in the '70s. She is apparently the only person Joan keeps in touch with from her school days, as most people treated her pretty shittily. I've never gotten to meet her, but I've seen her live a bunch of times, from opening for Def Leppard to singing the National Anthem at Camden Yards for an All Star game.
