a.bandini Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Unobtainium! That's the stuff. Got to get some of that. Thanks for the posts, and the work. I'm looking forward to plugging it in, if only I can decide what finish to ask for.
The Shark Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I really buy into a craftsman's vision, when he understands all the variables. I think the pick you use defines your tone as much as anything. If wood and hardware is the heart of the instrument, the pickups and the strings and the pick are the soul. This is just getting better all the time. Thanks, Josh. You're one of these "Zen" guys. Have at it.
veatch Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I suspect that if you ate Hot Pockets for a year, you could manage the plastic for the HB bobbins too.Beer.... Through.... Nose... And.... On.... Keyboard....
kizanski Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Ok. That's it! I'm glad to be here, but really should get back to work. Be well and rock on.Yes, welcome to the HFC.Now then, a little less with the typey-typey and a little more with the windey-windey.
Jakeboy Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 OMG. Best first two posts ever. Knowing how important pickups are to the entire guitar equation, I do believe it is safe to say, sir, thatYOU HAVE US AWAITING AND CRAVING, NAY, LUSTING AFTER OUR INCOMING ULTIMATES MORE THAN EVER!!!!!Keep the updates coming. Fascinating! T'will be a Merry Christmas indeed!
Sugartune Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 The initial run was expanded to 25 Ulitmates. Due to the the huge demand, I decided to extend the offer to the others that put in orders on that inital day, and these additional Ultimates are part of the second run. There will be a total of 48 special run Ultimates.48! A luthiers dozen.Excited about those pickups, holy swearword Batman!
BTMN Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Ummm Josh? Ummm eerrrr ummmm Double Off White with a hint of Creamora?
JGravelin Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 The specific color I've chosen is called Creamatorius Hamerium. It's Batman approved!
bubs_42 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 That was the next Hamer for me until Shishkov gas took it all away.... Well, my thoughts are related to yours. Given I realized my Shishkov CO would have to wait, I got me this one as soon as I saw it. It had been in my WTB list since ever anyway. Hell, I was even considering this shape for my Shishkov CO! Now of course I changed my mind to something else -I'm already discussing about it with the master, but that's all I can say about it for now. But in order to prove I did have a Phantom in mind for my CO, please refer to this question I asked here: http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/65910-introducing-shishkov-guitars-usa/page-12#entry715446 Out of the gate, I had an idea for a Phantom C/O one that could not be done with a donor guitar that wouldn't cost me Two Arms and a Leg. After the BUZZ was over I'm sitting and waiting for Mike to release a list of Models. I can't see calling the guy and telling him what I want when he may just end up offering me something better than I could have dreamed.
The Shark Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I think Bubs is on to something. I've been imagining about four different guitars for my second Shishkov. Maybe I'd be better off to get in on the ground floor with one of Mike's original creations. In fact, that's what I will do. I'll wait until Mike offers up the "models".

bubs_42 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Don't we all!? Actually No is the answer. Some will look so hard to the past that they will not see the future that is directly in front of them.
Sugartune Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 The past that's passed is so passe. Remember that? What great times.
soli'd Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I saw the Enola & Grace thread- Ted mentioned the Enola (bridge) would come standard with a lightly soldered on cover... Is that to say the planned stock config for the Ultimates is uncovered zebra neck, covered double cream bridge? Anyone know?
cynic Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 It's probably safe to assume the prototypes pictured in the referenced thread are representative of the final design.
cmatthes Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I will neither confirm nor deny that, but I will definitely not deny it.

Zebra, double white or double black. Some examples will, however, be much cooler! It's in the eye of the beholder.

soli'd Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I was reading Josh's post on the Shishkov blog re: prototyping the pickups in the proto-Ultimate chassis. made me wonder- is the proto-Ultimate chambered? If so, was it just recapped with the same mahogany as the body? If not, wouldn't that affect the response (and hence the design) of the pickups? I would think the chassis that was built to design the pickups would ideally be as close as possible in construction to the final product that the pickups are being designed for... Or is the combination of the chambered mahogany body with the maple cap predictable enough that it can be accounted for when the pickups are in an all-mahogany body?Just curious as to how this works.
