coolfeel Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 For doing so much for the careers of unknown artists!http://www.buzzfeed.com/brianmcmanus/paul-mccartney-mystery?utm_term=.fpL6nbM1Q&s=mobile
Steve Haynie Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 The cultural illiteracy of people never fails to find new lows. Even if one does not consume a type of entertainment, awareness is still hard to avoid.
Sugartune Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 This has happened before. Can't remember the exact context, but the twittersphere was shouting the same thing..."who's this paul McCartney old dude. Where did they dig this guy up?" Etc.Will Kanye be just another flash in the pan, or will his legacy carry on until kids ask the same question when he's 70?
tobereeno Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 no seriously, who is Kanye? gonna have to google that shit.
Steve Haynie Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 What's a Kanye?A: A social disease that one of the Kardashians caught.
Spike Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 You'd think that everyone would know that Paul McCartney was in the Beatles. Even I know that much and I was never a huge fan. At least for me anyway, that band just wasn't as good after Roger Waters left.
hamerhead Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 You're not really surprised this comes from the people who listen to Kuntye, are you? His fanbase is comprised of exactly the people it should be - morons.IMHO.

The last time I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd there were a lot of people there that made me wonder how they function in life. No stereotype was ever stronger. Rush fans have entirely different conversations at shows, too. It is like everyone is a bookworm.
cynic Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 But, if we call him a genius, and we listen to him, doesn't that make us a genius too?
Hbom Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 But, if we call him a genius, and we listen to him, doesn't that make us a genius too?Oh! It makes noise too?

crunchee Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 There was a similar uproar when somebody did the exact same thing a few years back, when Macca played at the Super Bowl, IIRC. There was a hilarious, very brief 'mocumentary' posted online when that happened (it was only a minute or two long), I posted it here on the HFC, but damned if I can find it, can't locate it on YooToob, either. Maybe somebody will stumble upon it.
killerteddybear Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Consider that the Beatles broke up 7 years before Kanye West was born. I'm not surprised that West's fans don't know who McCartney is. In my own timeframe, it would be like a hot band from the mid-70's collaborating with someone from 1930. Who was huge in 1930? I remember being that young (as Kanye's fans are), and I now realize at times how fucking stupid I was! That's one beauty of growing old - laughing at your earlier self. diablo175 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 What's a Kanye?A: A social disease that one of the Kardashians caught.Steve Haynie FTW.Actually I think it was kind of a mutual affliction/infection. She's no raging torrent of talent and prospect either.
Cary Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 True Story - I was at a Cheap Trick show in Rockford in 1987. When they launched into "Day Tripper", a teen-age girl near me said to her friend "I didn't know they were the ones that did this song". I turned to a guy who looked to be in his 30's next to me, and said "They think Cheap Trick did this song". He looked at me and asked "Who DID do this song?" I was blown away. That said, Kanye West is one of the biggest douches in the world. As for Paul McCartney, flame away, but I personally find him stale and boring. He hasn't done anything interesting or been relevant for 40 years.

If the matter at hand is music in general, absolutely relevant. Not to mention his extraordinary shows since his Rock rebirth in 2001.

In my own timeframe, it would be like a hot band from the mid-70's collaborating with someone from 1930. Who was huge in 1930? Rudy Vallee. Even Sinatra was only 15 in 1930. I read about a guy who worked in a record store in the late '70s and a 14-15 yr-old girl came in asking for the Sgt. Peppers album. The clerk went to the Beatles bin and handed her a copy, to which she responded, "No, I want the real one, with the Bee Gees!"

Who was huge in 1930?The David Bowie and Bing Crosby collaboration fits that description. Bing got off the ground in the 1920's, and was a big star in the 1930's. Paul Whiteman and Rudy Vallee were the big names of the day.

I understand my opinions often offend you, Dave, but I did preface my comments with "personally". Again, he hasn't done anything I've liked for 40 years, and I really don't see that he's been all that relevant to music for those 40 years either. Of course, YMMV.

velorush Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Can't argue relevance, but I sure do like the band he's been fronting for the past decade or so!
Tres Aardvarks Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 All of you shut your pieholes: Kanye is a genius, and there's no other word for it!At least, that's what he says...
Jason01 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 no seriously, who is Kanye? gonna have to google that shit. That will be a couple minutes of your life you wish you had back
