Jimbilly Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 I haven't bought or sold anything in a long time, - I mostly just bought and didn't sell (I have a modest collection...), now it looks like some of the 80's 90's stuff is worth actual money, like Proto iis, etc, is this true? Ebay used to be a decent guide for sold prices, but selling on ebay seems to be out of favor, and I don't believe that the asking prices on Reverb are based on reality. Your thoughts on used USA Hamer and other 'vintage' (80s/90s) gear prices? (mods feel free to delete if this is the wrong place to start this discussion).
Steve Haynie Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 There are some great asking prices. Some of those instruments on eBay and Reverb stay there a long time, too.
Dave Scepter Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 People are returning to work so the prices are starting to drop a little again... not much selection though
bubs_42 Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 I’m not, they deserve higher prices, but not a quadruple jump all at once.
django49 Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 Askin' ain't gettin'..... I've sold 11 thus far in 2021, with a few more pending. I am getting fair prices, not fire sale prices. Nothing like what comparable ones are being priced at on Reverb.
Travis Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 Personally, I think they’re totally worth the asking prices that we’ve seen lately. I just don’t believe they’ll sell for that much. And they haven’t proven themselves to hold that kind of price for resale. In other words, from a quality perspective I don’t think you’d be disappointed in paying asking price for what you get. But if you ever plan on reselling, I highly doubt you’d get your money back. At least not any time soon…

Doubtful The question that you should be asking yourself is why the hell are people paying 1k or more for China and Indonesian Guitars? Fact of the matter is that offshore manufacturing is getting damn good fast. I can walk through my local store and look at all the new stuff coming out and the fit and fishes are top knotch, playability is fantastic. What they don't have and never will, because its getting harder and harder to acquire is amazing wood.

hamerican gigolo Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Hamer USA deserve a higher selling price. Fit & finish are far superior to most compitition. Gibson never had the level of consistency that Hamer enjoyed. Plus, the fact that they aren't makin' any more of them. Are some of the prices on Reverb insane? Of course, but certain models are edging up in price & have been for quite some time.
LucSulla Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Bubble is starting to burst. I have a Jackson up right now that I am pretty sure would have sold easily two months ago within 10% of my asking price that isn't doing much. Some other stuff I watch just to see if it moves or if the seller starts dropping the price has been going down.
DaveH Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Back in the $350 days, I used to say that any Hamer under $1k was a decent buy. This, based on the actual quality of the instrument in comparison to the asking prices of the Gibbies on the market. But I agree that some of todays asking prices are optimistic, to say the least.
The Shark Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 I think it really depends on the guitar and the condition. As for the korina models; I never thought they were worth what they are selling for. And I don't have one. So, there's that.

You were right, and todays prices anyone under 2k is a great price. Now that the some are actually vintage the 3k isn't unreasonable. Then you have the extra special one offs, custom orders, wacky shit that who knows how high it would go. Its all good, special if you have a stash of them.
Armitage Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Hamers have been underpriced for ages. It's about time they joined the other guitar companies in resale.
Steve Haynie Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 This sucks. I have not gotten all the Hamers I want yet.
DaveH Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Remember when you could snag a 1 or 2 piece all 'hog Standard for $800-ish?
P Franco Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 Interesting to read the varying comments. I was a late arrival to the Hamer party. I bought my first Hamer, a Standard Custom just a little over two years ago - and have been hooked since then. In the last couple of years I have bought a few more with the understanding that some were fair deals, some were great deals and some I probably overpaid. At the end of the day I wasn’t trying to flip any of them and have been enjoying each instrument individually. To my amazement, my favorites at the moment are the ones that have lots of wear and have been “loved”. A couple are ones that I actually paid the least for-but that’s not the reason (although I did score one for tree-fiddy). Here’s a pic of the first Hamer I bought (2003 Standard Custom), it’s not my favorite by the way 😝 this very worn 1981 Studio is (for now) Whatever way the market swings I’m just glad that I got the chance to own and enjoy at least one Hamer!

I got my old ‘97 hog standard for $700 cash without a case from a Guitar Center in StL. It was pretty much mint. Ordered a new case for it from Hamer when they were still around. So, all in I guess I did get it for $800-ish….
crunchee Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 I mentioned the guitar market in general about a week and a half ago: Reverb has put a big dent in Ebay's market share of gear sales in the last couple of years, but (true to form) higher prices and acts of unsavory tomfoolery and shenanigans seem to have gone over there, too. I'm curious to see what happens to the market after The Holidays are done: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/christmas

Doubtful There is no "run of the mill" about the Korina Vectors (or Standards) what so ever. They are incredible guitars. I had my Korina Vector at rehersals yesterday for the 2nd time since I bought it and f*xk this guitar delivers the goods. It plays incredible, but it sounds absolutely insane. I think it will go with me to the grave. I was thinking "have I ever sounded this great?", with a stupid big smile on my face for two hours straight. Are they worth 7K (for a NOS one)? I dunno. According to Kim Keller Hamer only made about 200 of them i total. I find nothing strange about the fact that they are asking 4-digit Standard prices for these guitars. They are that great.
Montelovesco Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 Talking about optimistic pricing: If you want buy a Miller for 5.000 Euros, here you go: https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/1985-hamer-usa-miller-music-beer-usa-orig-case-vintage/1873799800-74-2008
