it doesn't matter if it's metal, nu-metal, country, goth, power pop or any other genre. I'm curious to find out the albums that moved you or that were so good that you kept listening to them over and over.

One of the reasons for the post is that except for the Adele album, I was didn't buy very much new stuff this year. Instead, I bought old music this year, but I want to find out what I missed or may have overlooked.

Okay, so that's four, so sue me. I guess I could lump all Joe B. stuff together - that would get me to three.

Besides "Human Remains" from Hell, there was nothing that I would class as "outstanding".

However, I did like Dream Theater's "A Dramatic Turn of Events" (mostly because all the shit related to choosing the new drummer), as well as "2" from Black Country Communion and TesseracT's "One", among others.

Hmm, if you liked Adele then you'll probably like this one. One of the nicest albums I bought this year.

Its a brilliant little album. Much of it is instrumental. Guest vocals by Jim James from My Morning Jacket, Lou Reed among others. And he's got members from The Roots backing him.

It's a little gem. I treasure this LP, glad I bought it on vinyl.

Some other stuff that I have really enjoyed:

The Horrors - Skying . Great band from the UK. Lots of old computer sounds mixed with indie guitars.

Arctic Monkeys - Suck it and see . Also from the UK. Great indierock with an attitude.

Ben Waters - Boggie 4 Stu . A tribute to Ian Stewart. Got The complete Stones on it, including Wyman, and

PJ Harvey etc. It's boogie Woogie, but it's good.

Brad Paisley - This is country music. Great guitar album, it's a country album but Brad can play a tele,

that fer sure. And the song "Eastwood" is country musics own "YYZ". A great album all the way through.

The Twilight Singers - Dynamite Steps. It's Greg Dulli, what more is there to say. This is one of the best

albums of 2011.

Bootsy Collins - "Tha Funk Capitol of the World". It's Bootsy baby. Always a party on plastic. You just

gotta have it.

REM - Collapse into now. Their finest effort since Monster. To bad it was also their swan song. They will

probably do a re-union in five year though, with a 100 million dollar gross tour.

the aristocrats - guthrie govan/marco minneman/bryan beller; one of the best fusion albums of all time.

mastodon - the hunter; more accessible than their previous albums, tho my fave is still crack the skye.

medeski scofield martin wood - in case the world changes its mind (live) - maybe the best album yet from this amazing neo-jazz supergroup.

Accept- Blood of Nations. Even though it has been about 15 years since their previous release and they have a new singer they did not miss a beat and pick up right where they left off. Old school metal at it's best.

Hell- Human Remains. Just a great release of British style metal. Think these guys will be around for awhile.

Alice Cooper - Welcome 2 My Nightmare. A scatter shot of different musical styles but always with one foot in rock, this release is just a show case for some serious talent by a guy who could make a decent living just by walking to his mail box to pick up his royalty checks but still puts out new albums and tours relentlessly. Some great guitar work by Steve Hunter through out with three songs with his original band and produced by Bob Ezrin it has a lot going for it.

Spot On Punky! - had the chance to see "the Master" a few hours after the Cubs home opener this past April.

It was a day much like most in my life, the Cubs lost and Jeff Beck was great.

I just looked Sheepdogs up on Spotify. First tune was I Don't Know. Sounded familiar, turns out it was on a mix tape one of my employees gave me for Xmas! Dig that tune...

I gotta put the Kentucky Headhunters new one on here! ! "DixieLullabies" is their best LP IMO. The interplay between Richard Young's tele & Greg Martin's killer Les makes this an awesome southern rock outing!

Mike Watt and the Missingmen - Hyphenated-Man : It's a really good album. But you don't really get a full appreciation until you see them perform it live. Wow, they were amazing live.

The Disciplines - Virgins of Menace: Sophomore album by a band led by Ken Stringfellow (posies, big star) and a few norwegians. Really good garage-style rock'n'roll with nice melodies.

Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues: One of the better sophomore albums I've heard.

I also really liked: David Bazan - Strange Negotiations; Denison Witmer - The Ones Who Wait; Mariachi El Bronx - Mariachi El Bronx II; St. Vincent - Strange Mercy; the Black Keys - El Camino; Smoking Popes - This Is Only A Test;
