gorch Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I'm feeding the thread with this, Zappa's and Vai's guitar techs rig. Thomas Nordegg presenting it himself.
zenmindbeginner Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Germans... it's hard for the rest of us to grasp their intellectual curiosity and feel as empowered to conquer technology as y'all do.I could barely wrap my mind around what I just saw and heard. WOW! This guy is equal parts Brian Eno and Bob Bradshaw.
Jakeboy Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Lol....I feel so simple....onstage I take a single coil guit, a HB guit, and plug straight in to a NMV early Marshall or a tweed Fender, or a Brown Deluxe. There is always a tuner present and occasionally a wah. I crank the amp for distortion. Oh, a Weber attenuator is hooked up to the amp if the bar or club is small....I did just pick up 3 new pedals though.... A vintage MXR Phase100 that I'll use for 2 songs, a vintage DOD envelope filter for 2 songs, and an MXR 10 band EQ that I am loving as a boost. We'll see....usually just a cable tween me n the guitar...
RichRS6 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I go for the minimal approach.Guitar, (Usually the Sunburst), Cable, (Zaola or Planet Waves), Mesa Boogie Studio 22. I have a clip on Tuner for during set tweaking and a Peterson Strobo stomp Tuner for initial tuning before we start. The clean channel on the amp works well enough for me and the Overdriven/Lead sound is surprisingly good.I have a MK3 Boogie but it's just too loud for most of the Gigs we do (and way too heavy)Was looking to get an attenuator for the MK3 and was on the waiting list for a Faustine Phantom but that all went pear shaped and am still waiting to hear from my C.C. Co to see if they will refund me.
BubbaVO Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Now I understand why his (vai's) guitars sound like $hit.
edgar_allan_poe Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 1963 Strat and an Elmwood Modena 90 with a Wizard 4x12. Here is the half stack...

atquinn Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 1963 Strat... What...no Hubers any more??? Beat me to it. Maybe the Hubers are too precious to gig with so he takes some old Strat instead? - Austin

Scottcrud Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 One or two (depending on venue) Mesa Boogie .50Cal+ heads ( both have been modded significantly to be louder), and 2 King Custom cabinets ( 4x12's). I either use my Robin raider, or Custom Mockingbird. My pedal board has a amp channel switch, Boss NS-2 noise suppesor, Boss TU-2 tuner and Ibanez Weeping Demon Wah.
Feynman Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Stage....stage...sorry, I don't understand the question.
serial Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Here's my rig from last Friday night: Line 6 Duoverb head/cab; Gibson V, Hamer Prototype 12, Gibson Firebird 1 (all Couch straps); Line 6 MM4, MXR Carbon Copy, Decimator, Boss CH-1. Kidde Fire Extinguisher is part of the house rig.
kizanski Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Guitar > cable > TM-60.That rig slays Madison Square Basement on a regular basis.
sonic1974 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Mostly onstage I play acoustic. It's a Boucher dreadnought with L.R. Baggs M1A active pickup and LR Baggs preamp. For electric: '79 Sunburst going through a Traynor Bassmaster with Eminence loaded 2x12 cab. Effects are a diamond j-drive distortion, reverb and boss tuner. I'd like to get tremelo pedal at some point.
sirDaniel Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Stage? doesn't that imply you play out? in that case...i got nutn.
RobB Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Stay with me! This seems complicated, but it's a pretty simple wet/dry setup and has never let me down.Pedalboard:pedaltrain jr.-->Axxess buffer-->Budda Budwah-->xotic EP Booster (always on)-------------->Rack:Korg DTR-2000 tuner-->ISP Decimator ProrackG (ch. 1 in)--->(ch. 1 out)--->Soldano Hot Rod 50 head to Bogner 4x12 cab (V30s)Slave Out of Soldano head-------------------->Pedalboard:Radial Bigshot Mix fx looper (in)--->(send)--->Analogman Boss DD3--->Whirlwind Orange Phaser--->Toadworks Barracuda Flanger-->Bigshot Mix fx looper (return)-->(out)------------------------------>Rack:Decimator ProrackG (ch. 2 in)-->(ch. 2 out) Tubeworks MosValve 962 power amp (ch.1 in)-->(speaker out)-->Bogner 2x12 w/EVM 12Ls.Forgot to mention: From the Soldano FX send runs to the pedalboard, then to a "Solo Solution" pedal (in) and the (out) runs back to the FX return. This simple box has a 500k pot and an LED and basically lets you set two volumes, eliminating the need for a front-end boost or a second channel. Very clever device.
