Wow, the meaning of life Standard.

Hmm, the seller is even offering "economy" shipping - at $225

Maybe by economy shipping, the seller means if we were in some "alternate" economy where $100,000 meant $2500.

Also, there have been two offers, which one of you offered $350?

"Honest honey, I listed it on eBay THREE times and no bids. I will just have have to keep it."

Not again.

So last time it was up for sale at auction it went up to around $4376 then (it now appears) the seller pulled it rather than it being sold off ebay as many of us here suspected, so perhaps as it hadn't reached the crazy heights he was hoping for he chickened out of the auction at the last minute in case it sold for a more reasonable figure.

Now, by setting a ridiculous BIN for it (he must know no one will pay that amount for it, unless the drugs are really that good in Cali) and asking for offers he is attempting to run some kind of blind auction so those crazy enough to be prepared to put up with his ridiculous control freak terms of sale wont even know where the bid is actually at for the next 29 Days.

Last time I got all worked up about this guitar and spent a lot of energy working out a way to buy it (as he will not ship internationally or accept paypal bids from out of the U.S.)

This time I won't.

Edited to add.

Good luck to anyone else who wants it, if someone here manages to do a deal with the seller and wants to make a quick profit let me know, I don't want to waste my time with this seller.

I don't want to waste my time with this seller.

Agreed. It's a fine guitar that I'd buy from most anyone but him :)

Hmmm-not sure that the pickups are original. Its a late 76 if its from 76 and it was built not at Palatine, but in Winnetka. Maybe finished in Palatine, but not built there. I chatted with thd guy before and despite the issues with freaking out about selling direct, he seemed fairly reasonable, but that listing sure doesn't look reasonable at all.

That shipping fee is a dealbreaker!

Having thought about this a little longer I've come to the conclusion that the seller doesn't actually want to sell it.

If He really wanted to sell for the highest price then restricting the sale to the U.S. only will reduce the possible market, not allowing any kind of inspection and/or collection even in a Bank lobby/Police station, postal delivery and Paypal only will also put most of us off with guitars at this price and therefore the end price will be substantially less as there will be a whole lot less people able or willing to bid for it.

Either he's taking the piss or he'll give it 20 Days of sweating for those willing to chuck a bid in and end the auction right at the wire and then re-list it with a BIN a couple of Grand over the last high offer.

I feel a little differently. I think he does want to sell it, but his unwillingness to meet, even in an uber-secure location, says there may be a reason that makes him want cash in hand before anyone gets a close-up look at the guitar.

The hotel room photo's used in the first auction didn't give a warm fuzzy either :)

Not serious at all for the amount expected. Just to many restrictions. #42 to me is nothing special than #350.

Maybe the seller is Jol himself?:lol:

what a load of crap. If a 1959 les paul owned by Mick Taylor comes in at 150K, that thing isnt' worth a 20th of 100K.

Minor band.

NOT A VINTAGE LES PAUL.

NOT WORTH 100K!

It's probably worth between $5-10k, but the seller isn't going to get any serious buyer to part with that kind of gravy unless he chafes his restrictions to more reasonable terms.
