CONGRATS!!!

Off to Wake Forest on a golf scholarship, eh? ;)

Thanks, gang.

He's good; +.3 handicap; some great teaching happens to be at the range just 2 miles from our house here in central Maine, of all places. He was born the day Tiger turned pro, is as competitive as I am, and seems to have the perseverance and work ethic too.

He's not pursuing scholarships at this time (we do things a little differently in our family) and intends to see if he can make it professionally. We're happy to support as he tests the waters over the next 2-3 years. We'll see.

That is great!

Eileen and I still have great memories of all the things our son did in his sports programs. NOW we hope he translate something into the job market.....

Congratulations to him----AND to your own good parenting!

Congrats! Nothing quite like watching your offspring find something they love and doing well at it.

My wife and I still miss watching our son participate in his various sports - but not the aggravation that went with it. He loved playing soccer and was a very good goalkeeper - he started his junior year, gave up 13 goals in 12 section games and was the only section goalie to beat the section champs (1-0 on their field - lost 1-0 on his home field on an own goal). Kept his team in several games they had no business being in. They had a section champion-quality team the next year - but the "superstar's" family never thought my son could play, and the "superstar" started bitching at the first summer practice (my son said when the first goal went in, he yelled, "Can we please get a good goalie?"). That kid's (and his family's) attitude was that the older kids were holding him back, and once they were out of the way, we'd see what they could do. They went 4-8 and 1-11 in section those two years. Worst of all, it killed my son's love for playing.

Congratulations, and what a beautiful picture!

Keep him motivated, focused and grounded, i hope to see him one day on the Grand Masters!

Been there, done that. Sorry to hear it, goalkeeper is a challenging position and fun; used to play it myself. Parents get so wrapped up in themselves.

My son has a "nemesis" he bumps into in tournaments all the time. In the tournament, my son's group caught up to his on the second to last hole and the nemesis told him that he was three under par, an outright lie; gamesmanship. It was not the first time he'd done something like this so my son ignored him. The kid is talented, but this is a game that reveals character...

Congratulations Mr. Toad, and to your son. Well done to all!

A buddy told me once that he could learn more about a guy in an hour on the racquetball court than in a year of working with him. I think that is true, in a lot of sports, golf included. Sounds like your son is learning a lot.

Probably a good thing that I played football then!

Hold a guy on the sly, get my feet "tangled up" with a receivers', punch a guy under his facemask, aaaaaah, the good old days.

What you lack in talent, you just make up in "hustle", I guess.

There's a simple answer to that: "wow, really? Can I see your card? I haven't seen a below scratch card before!"...

The two bad parts (for me) of running a junior cycling team were the pro team staff, and entitled kids and their parents.

Great news here!

As Casey Kasem would say; "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars".

best wishes,

You have my applause on that one. I have told my son, a drummer... go find that band... go tour, if that's your dream. You will always have a home to come back to.

This is something more parents should tell their children. In fact, I think I'll tell my children that this weekend. But first, I need your address so they know where that home is...
