carfish7 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Super cool and congrats all around! Kids are cool. Usually.
rj2858 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Congrats! Is the PGA Tour and YOUR retirement far off?
Feynman Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Very nice! Excellent photo as well, and spiffy duds. Congratulations!
cmatthes Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 CONGRATS!!! Off to Wake Forest on a golf scholarship, eh?
Toadroller Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 Thanks, gang. He's good; +.3 handicap; some great teaching happens to be at the range just 2 miles from our house here in central Maine, of all places. He was born the day Tiger turned pro, is as competitive as I am, and seems to have the perseverance and work ethic too. He's not pursuing scholarships at this time (we do things a little differently in our family) and intends to see if he can make it professionally. We're happy to support as he tests the waters over the next 2-3 years. We'll see.
django49 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 That is great! Eileen and I still have great memories of all the things our son did in his sports programs. NOW we hope he translate something into the job market..... Congratulations to him----AND to your own good parenting!
alantig Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Congrats! Nothing quite like watching your offspring find something they love and doing well at it.My wife and I still miss watching our son participate in his various sports - but not the aggravation that went with it. He loved playing soccer and was a very good goalkeeper - he started his junior year, gave up 13 goals in 12 section games and was the only section goalie to beat the section champs (1-0 on their field - lost 1-0 on his home field on an own goal). Kept his team in several games they had no business being in. They had a section champion-quality team the next year - but the "superstar's" family never thought my son could play, and the "superstar" started bitching at the first summer practice (my son said when the first goal went in, he yelled, "Can we please get a good goalie?"). That kid's (and his family's) attitude was that the older kids were holding him back, and once they were out of the way, we'd see what they could do. They went 4-8 and 1-11 in section those two years. Worst of all, it killed my son's love for playing.
BlueRedWhite Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Congratulations, and what a beautiful picture!Keep him motivated, focused and grounded, i hope to see him one day on the Grand Masters!
Toadroller Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 ... the "superstar" started bitching at the first summer practice (my son said when the first goal went in, he yelled, "Can we please get a good goalie?"Been there, done that. Sorry to hear it, goalkeeper is a challenging position and fun; used to play it myself. Parents get so wrapped up in themselves. My son has a "nemesis" he bumps into in tournaments all the time. In the tournament, my son's group caught up to his on the second to last hole and the nemesis told him that he was three under par, an outright lie; gamesmanship. It was not the first time he'd done something like this so my son ignored him. The kid is talented, but this is a game that reveals character...
a.bandini Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Congratulations Mr. Toad, and to your son. Well done to all! A buddy told me once that he could learn more about a guy in an hour on the racquetball court than in a year of working with him. I think that is true, in a lot of sports, golf included. Sounds like your son is learning a lot.
rj2858 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 but this is a game that reveals character...Probably a good thing that I played football then!Hold a guy on the sly, get my feet "tangled up" with a receivers', punch a guy under his facemask, aaaaaah, the good old days. What you lack in talent, you just make up in "hustle", I guess.
Ting Ho Dung Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Congratulations to both of you. Wonderful picture. Fall color on the trees and his matching outfit.
Tres Aardvarks Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 ... the "superstar" started bitching at the first summer practice (my son said when the first goal went in, he yelled, "Can we please get a good goalie?"Been there, done that. In the tournament, my son's group caught up to his on the second to last hole and the nemesis told him that he was three under par, an outright lie; There's a simple answer to that: "wow, really? Can I see your card? I haven't seen a below scratch card before!"...The two bad parts (for me) of running a junior cycling team were the pro team staff, and entitled kids and their parents.
Steve Haynie Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 This could be bad, you know. One day he might come home looking like Alice Cooper.
Hamerica Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Great news here! As Casey Kasem would say; "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars". best wishes,Hamerica
tomteriffic Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Good on the both of you, and that's a great pic!

We're happy to support as he tests the waters over the next 2-3 years. We'll see.You have my applause on that one. I have told my son, a drummer... go find that band... go tour, if that's your dream. You will always have a home to come back to.

You will always have a home to come back to. This is something more parents should tell their children. In fact, I think I'll tell my children that this weekend. But first, I need your address so they know where that home is...
