Toadroller Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 and this band is one my fav one hit wonders who are currently still rockin' their asses off, if you ever have a chance to catch them live you will not be disappointed I always felt this song was a modern-day interpretation of Cheap Trick's "Daddy Should Have Stayed in High School," from the theme to the sonic assault.
LordOfTheThighs Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I was up watching most of these videos for 3 or 4 hours last night. Some great songs posted. Really cool thread.
specialk Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 This thread is a great resource for me! I'll buy a CD from Amazon and occassionally get a song credit. Instead of saving them up (which I forget to do) I just come here and find something. Head East wins this time!
mc2 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix, believe it or not, his only top 20 hit song ever.Yeah, was going to say everyone missed the obvious....Hendrix "All Along the Watchtower."Lots of other good more obscure ones named but nothing compares to this one IMO. Also from same era Vanilla Fudge "Keep Me Hangin' On" was a pretty amazing single. Another fave is "Don't Ever Wanna Lose Ya" by New England, the band that evolved into Alcatrazz.
Steve Haynie Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 That Harvey Danger song was catchy when it came out. Thanks for bringing it up here.
LucSulla Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I always thought it did a great job of going somewhere. That last verse just punches and ties the whole song up. Good songwriting and production, IMO.
Crimsontider Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I think of flash in the pan vs a cult band that broke through the masses one time. The first I care very little about. I would have to put The Church and Type O Negative as my favorite one hit wonder.
killerteddybear Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Ides of Marchhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdbGLK5B5mEIsn't the singer the guy who sang Eye of the Tiger? Here's my cover of Vehicle if yer curiousGood call, ZMB. It is the same singer, Jim Peterik. I'd never thought that. And I always assumed Vehicle was by Blood, Sweat & Tears. No wonder I couldn't find that song in their catalog.Soundcloud is having problems right now, but I can't wait to hear your cover of it. Thanks for the link. They did a followup tune, "Superman". More of the same. Never heard from them again.
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Song, or band?My favorite one-hit wonder band is After The Fire. The album Der Kommissar came from is excellent, with some surprisingly very good guitar work considering it was New Wave/Synth-Pop.
Sugartune Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Good question. For band, it's Nada Surf. Their song Popular was ironically their only popular song, but their other stuff is so much better. 20 years and 6 albums later, still a fan. Melodic power pop goodness.
LordsoftheJungle Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Heard they were popular in Canada, but to me it seemed like they were a OHW:
Sugartune Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I had to look that up. Didn't know them, but I sure know Tom Cochrane. He's like our John Cougar Mellencamp.
randelli Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Don't know if this has been shared yethttp://youtube/ZbjyuDYtAtk
DaveH Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Not saying this is my favorite, but I sure do remember it as a kid, being on AM radio back around 1971. Pretty morbid, especially for the time:
mrjamiam Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 OK, I'm fed up. It turns out that most of the ones that occur to me aren't the only hit, but they're the only hit I was familiar with. And then "Possum Kingdom" gets put up, and I completely whiffed on that one. It's one of my stay-in-the-car-until-it's-over songs. Did just that just last night, as a matter of fact. Anyway, these had the hell played out of them in Nashville in their respective hey-days:
veatch Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 My apologies if a repeat... Russ Ballard wrote a lot of hits, but this is the only one i know of that he was the artist on: 707:
