LordsoftheJungle Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Dang, this thread looked like it was building up to a climactic Waterloo speech and then nothing! Thanks for getting my hopes up and then ruining it Feynman,,,
tomteriffic Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I've stayed out of this just to avoid muddying the waters, but I have to pipe up and say that a Newport 90 is a significantly different animal from the rest of the Newport line. The wrap tail and P-90's put it in another range of snarl and bark.

The wrap tail and P-90's put it in another range of snarl and bark.Precisely why I'm interested. Great combination of simplicity and beauty. No other Newport interests me. Five pages for a simple WTB thread is impressive. Kizanski's commentary is just icing on the cake. He knows I'm serious and it ain't about the money. For anyone (like I'm not talking to one great player here on the forum) that worries about "dibs", please offer the man with dibs $500 to bow out and SELL ME THAT GUITAR...........please.

cynic Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 That double bound one was the shit.I really enjoyed it, and I would have to agree that the New90 really is an entirely different, and IMO better brand of Newport. It's one of those rare guitars that over-delivers on every expectation the specs imply.
dhuber Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Wow I am completely uneducated on the Newport P-90. I think that's the first one I ever saw. On another note that necklace is making me hungry. That thing looks like a kabob that just came of the grill. I don't know if she likes him or if she's going to take a bite out that necklace. This thread is completely out of hand.

But I want to play it first!

Boomerang~Junkie Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 This is the last Newport Hamer crafted (of any Newport model). Yes, its insanely nice. Sorry, no its not for sale.
The Shark Posted February 22, 2015 Author Posted February 22, 2015 This is the last Newport Hamer crafted (of any Newport model). Yes, its insanely nice. Sorry, no its not for sale. Not me anyway. Sunburst. Understated. That's what I want.
Boomerang~Junkie Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 It will be worth the wait. Best of luck.

tomteriffic Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 That double bound one was the shit. Yes it was. Willcutts had, if memory serves, a black double bound one too. When they came out, I could scrape the scratch together, but I decided to wait until they started showing up used. Silly me
coolfeel Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 This is the last Newport Hamer crafted (of any Newport model). Yes, its insanely nice. Sorry, no its not for sale. That one is all kinds of cool - almost bought it...
gorch Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Just following up the thread. What's the special with the P90 Newport? I had P90s in my Newport and didn't like it. Swapped them back to the original Phat Cats. Do they have a top other than spruce? I thought P90s were a little dark on spruce.
The Shark Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 It's, basically, a semi-hollow with a solid block down the middle. That disqualifies a significant number of Newports. The wrap-around P-90 combination is tried and true. I don't give a shit about whether it's double bound. I'm really serious about buying one of these. I might pony up a bit more for the right one. For me, it might be Hamer's finest "hour".
pirateflynn Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Ummm... that fucking rocks. My favorite of the run.
django49 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Those "solid block" semi-hollows, as in the "Ultimate Newport, the "Filtertron Newport OR the Monaco IIIs are all a cut above the norm.
