Ive been sitting on posting this for a couple of weeks, mainly because I havent taken any real shots with a proper camera.

These two are from my iPhone 4s, but they came out pretty good:

When I first opened the case I gasped and grinned. Picking it up, it weighs 7lb. 12oz., which is remarkable with the amount of hardwood on this guitar. Despite the chambering of the (solid) mahogany back, its still pretty remarkable. The finish is beautiful, the perfect tobacco burst of my dreams. The neck is similar to a Hamer vintage carve, but the neck on my Newport seems bigger.

It was in tune right outta the case, so I started strumming some chords and was surprised at the unplugged volume and how the body vibrated. Its LOUD! Plugged into my home rig (Rocktron ProphesyII), it noticed how clear the pickups sounded with even the most OTT, digital-gobbledy-goo-horsehshit presets. Said to myself, Yikes, this guitar is ALREADY broken in!"

I'll spare you all the histrionic superlatives about my new guitar. You’ve read all of the other customers reviews and its all true and more. I'm humbled to own something that was built with such talent and precision.

#0011 is currently back in Mikes hands getting a tuner swap-out which he graciously agreed to do. It will come back with vintage-style Klusons, my favorite tuners. Once its back home, I'll do a real photo shoot with detail shots.

That is simply beautiful, Rob! The fact that we're hearing such similar reactions to these guitars, despite our vast differences and individual preferences, really tells me that Mike is doing something really special here.

Delicious!

It made me 'oooph' out loud. Damn that's nice. Real nice.

Lovely! Very nice top and burst.

Did you give any thought to replacing the tuning pegs locally instead of shipping back and forth?

Gorgeous flame and a classic finish that looks, well, perfect. The necks are to die for and the fit and finish are spectacular.

Congrats on an absolutely awesome guitar!

Ultimate, indeed.

Beautiful, and for me perfect timing on the photos.

What color is the back? ETA:red or brown?

Not really, Dave, because the Klusons need a bit of modding to fit into the stock peghead holes, like so:

Brown. It works on this guitar, big time. My LP has a light tobacco burst over red back and neck. While it's a great look for that guitar, I'm VERY happy with the finish on the Ultimate.

very cool Rob, love that color, almost looks like a 25 year old guitar that's been kept in it's case. Dave

Man, I'm not an explorer type guy, but every one of these makes me think about becoming one. The wood and the finishes are all shiny and beautiful, but at the same time classic and vintage looking.

Chalk up another win in the Shishkov column.

Rob, when you get a chance, could you post a pic of the back? I'm thinking brown on mine rather than red, but I don't think I've seen one of these with a brown back. Thanks in advance, your guitar is awesome.

I would be happy to. Probably be more than a week or so before it gets back to the west coast, but I will take some proper shots.

Okay, I was wrong as I could be about the back color. Now that I have the guitar in proper sunlight, it is a VERY deep cherry red, like 70’s Gibson SGs. A deeper red, not like the reds on the necks/backs of LP bursts.

Sorry for the confusion!

soli’d, see my above post. Sorry for the confusion, but getting the guitar in the proper sunlight revealed a deep, cherry red transparent, almost burgundy. It’s very pretty.

That's exactly what I've asked for, front and back! Thanks!

At this point, i am thoroughly convinced the color requested does not matter. Mike and Gary will make it look like a $1,000,000.

I'm considering a Shlitz-dabs/gingivitis burst for my next order, just to see how they can make that look cool. :)
