coolfeel Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Nah - that isn't necessarily a compliment nor a proper comparison; cue the FUGLY Heritage headstocks.
cmatthes Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Muse and Elduave hit it on the head above. If I were Mike, I would consider that an insult, actually.Heritage kinda sucks - sorry all you Heritage fanbois, but they do. Gawdawfully hideous headstocks aside, they are sub-par to average guitars, with the possible exception of their upper range hollowbodies and semi-hollows. That KM shop looks like a scary episode of "Hoarders" too... (has it EVER been cleaned??!!?)Say all you like to the contrary, but I've seen far too much shoddy workmanship and played enough lifeless, toneless turds with that name on the headstock over the years to just have those be exceptions to the rule.
atquinn Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 But Knaggs guitars are even uglier than Heritages! - Austin
geowolves Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 As Luke Skywalker is to Yoda. Learned from the master. Enough said!
Steve Haynie Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Heritage expanded the number of models of hollowbody designs. That was good. Shishkov is supposed to be a new company. I do hope Mike goes the direction of Knaggs with original designs that do not resemble his former employer too closely.

atquinn Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 As Rodgers is to Favre. That would certainly be the best-case scenario!-Austin
LucSulla Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Did Chris reply? I didn't even scroll to see. I had to ask first. Ha! It was more sedate than I expected. I have to agree with him though. Owned a 535 (335) that was fantastic to the point of my possibly buying it back. I owned a 150 (LP) that was a pretty solid guitar. And I owned a 157 (LP Custom) that had some pretty shoddy workmanship in the guts. Little things like screw hole bored so they pierced the control cavity and things like that. I'd definitely buy one of their semi or hollow bodied guitars, but if I had to have an LP, I'd endure "The Search" for a real Gibson. That sounds nothing at all like the Shishkov experience, and while I am hungry for an Ultimate, I'm kinda glad I didn't spend the money and might be able to go for one of his own creations.

Jakeboy Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 As Mick Taylor was to Brian Jones......Shishkov has followed a legend that was AWESOME and yet has added something different, original, and IMO BETTER.
serial Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Perfect analogy! As Mick Taylor was to Brian Jones......Shishkov has followed a legend that was AWESOME and yet has added something different, original, and IMO BETTER.
RobB Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Perfect analogy! As Mick Taylor was to Brian Jones......Shishkov has followed a legend that was AWESOME and yet has added something different, original, and IMO BETTER.Yeah, very insightful. My Ultimate has killed my jonz for simarily appointed Hamers. So much so that my last Standard is going on the block soon. There, I said it. It felt good to post this.
polara Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 As MotorAve is to Chandler. Mark worked at Chandler, a very good larger shop, for years. Then he started doing MotorAve as a solo gig. My MotorAve is spectacular, and clearly built with vision and pride in workmanship, as is my Shishkov.

It felt good to post this.Oddly enough, and as great as my Greenburst Standard is, I've had those same crazy thoughts.Glad I'm not alone...
