What an incredibly stunning build! ETA: And after watching 3-4 hours of that PRS pimpfest known as Carolina Rebellion on AXS this weekend, Kev's Shishkov is a much-needed palette cleanser.

He has already had discussions with at least one major Guitar magazine with regards to reviewing his prototype(s). More to come, for sure...

I read your mind, which is exactly why I was thinking of a feature versus a review. Of course, then everyone with the scratch would want an Ultimate.

Thankyou OK - the knobs; I already explained that these were adapted from a pair of the band's pewter necklaces which our merch company makes. There are two versions of the knob mounting, but until I get out and start doing real-world shows with #0666, I'm still not sure which version is going to be the most practical or usable; Version 1 involved bonding the pewter castings to brass centre ferrules, dug out of the bodies of regular volume knobs - the bonding was done using some of Mike's magic voodoo mega-glue. This is what's on the guitar right now. The advantage of this method is that the knobs are removable via a small Allen-headed grub screw which you can see in the pics, but the disadvantage is that the castings sit further away from the face of the guitar than is totally ideal. But at the rate I managed to destroy pots with sweat on my '08 Standard, this may prove to be the best option long-term. Version 2 involved drilling all the way through the centres of the castings, then force-fitting them onto the splined pot shaft, then running a little industrial cyano adhesive onto the joint to lock everything tightly into place. The end of the shaft was then concealed using epoxy, and painted with silver and black to match the rest of the casting. This alternative method sits the castings closer to the guitar face and looks better as a result, but it also means that if a pot ever fails, the only way to replace it is to rip the knob right off the shaft, most likely destroying it in the process. Life's a series of compromises I guess, and time will tell ...... Kev

In a few shows you will have learned not to damage your hand on the legs of the thingy standing up from the top a bit. On the other hand, I think the audience would appreciate blood rinsing from your playing hand. ETA: Very cool idea though. It breaks all bounds.

There there is going to be someone's attempt at copying the guitar, both homemade mods and someone in a Chinese factory. It is going to be fun watching for this to happen.

I can't remember the last time I ever used a tone pot live, so I dispensed with it altogether. For the odd times when I need a sound which is a little more muted, I'll just kick in differently EQ'd versions of my stock Kemper profiles from the Tech21 MIDI Moose which I use to control it. The only reason there are 2 x volumes in fact, is that I'll occasionally close down the volume on the neck pup and uses the pickup selector as a killswitch.

My Shishkov c/o also features two volumes and a switch (as I did to my Hoyers), because I do exactly the same. The difference is the size of the audience.

Now the deeper thoughts about it I had promised: This dark, menacing object looks both ancient and modern, which fits perfectly to HELL's image. Those symbols, the pseudo-gothic appointments and curves, give to it a mysterious aura, while the Floyd's higher-tech nature adds an extra edge to its "deadly weapon" character. The reverse headstock can be also seen like a subtle nod to the Evil One. Overall, it looks like an alchemist's tool, or a black wizard's; a mix of Jules Verne and H.P. Lovecraft aesthetics in a device whose purpose would be both ritualistic... and practical. Well, I took it too seriously, right?
