"skove" It will begin as "shiskovian," but will end up with the street vernacular as "skove," as in, "man, that car is freakin' skove, bro," and will apply across the board. First here at the HFC, then spreading to other guitar and music related circles, but soon enough teenagers will say things like "oh, Suzie, you're totally skove," in the tight confines of dad's Hyundai's back seat, and ultimately we'll hear Phil Simms refer to a brilliantly executed play as skovely done. And then my mother will awkwardly try to use it by calling one of the wee toadroller's accomplishments very skoved. At which point it will burn a flaming death and disappear from the lexicon much like "groovy" did in the late 70s / early 80s. Or maybe not.
Toadroller Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Oh, no no. Back in 85 I was stocking grocery shelves and my manager, easily 20 years my senior, used groovy all the time and it was... awkward... Sure, I knew groovy, having been raised on reruns of The Brady Bunch, but groovy was kinda square. It did make its way back, perhaps used ironically at first, but is now firmly established. It's all groovy. These are the observations of a Toadroller, so take them as you will.
DBraz Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 Where do I start. This weekend has been one I'll remember forever. I picked up my guitar this weekend and it has superseded all of my expectations. To me this is the best guitar I have EVER played. Without equal. The attention to detail up close is remarkable. Every join, every inlay, every bevel. Perfect. Then I plugged it in. Wow. I felt a little tear. The Shishkov's are among the nicest people I have ever met. Warm, hospitable and just awesome. I had a tour of the Shishkov shop, admired some of the works in progress (boy oh boy there are going to be some more happy customers soon!!), played the prototypes, had a look where Hamer used to reside, met Phil (another very cool member of team Shishkov) and feel pretty good right now. Mike, Trish, I salute you.

DBraz Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 I even got a special surprise with my name written in"Iron Maiden" font on the TRC. How cool is THAT!

unfun75 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 That hardware color was definitely the right choice.
Northfield Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Thanks David! Trish and I had a blast having you here and I loved working on this project with you. Can't wait to see some pics/video of it in action.
Boomerang~Junkie Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Truly jaw dropping. What a stunning guitar. I'm thrilled for you and Mike for being so insanely talented to craft jewels like this. What a testament to your talents. MIKE - I don't know how you could possibly top this, but I would not bet against you.
cmatthes Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 I have been waiting for the reveal on this one just like the rest of us - DB has to be beyond thrilled with his new guitar. A masterpiece. So much blood sweat and tears (literally, all three!) went into that one, and it couldn't have come out better! Congrats all around!
DBraz Posted January 30, 2017 Author Posted January 30, 2017 I am pleased to say its now home and plugged in. I may be tired but it HAS to be played immediately!
DBraz Posted January 30, 2017 Author Posted January 30, 2017 Ok. I have played it for an hour or so on my own gear and have done a few side-by-side comparisons. Jeepers. The Super-C sounds alive! It's funny but I remember Kev saying on here that his guitar felt like one he'd owned for years. This feels similar. There was no adjustment period I feel at home with it immediately. Sound wise, despite what you may assume about FM bodies, it has plenty of beef. Throaty - no mud, a bit of bark. Warm, no boom. Maybe the wenge helps here? Some have compared wenge's sound to BR and that probably balances well with the body. The highs sound like someone has accidentally wound up the presence on my amp to 10. Really sweet in the upper register and even with modest gain it holds on to a note for ages without sounding shrill or "ice picky". The wenge neck feels as good as I remember it when fooling on a friends basses. Soooo slick. Like running your hand up and down a wood Teflon. No grab AT ALL. Looks great too. Thank you Mike. I couldn't ask for better. It's been a great journey and the conclusion is something very very special. The pickups. Flippin 'eck.. They are fire breathers. I will have to get some for my Cali's. They are superior to my Bart ACE pickups and I consider them outstanding. Lots of you have already said this so I shouldn't be in any way surprised. Nice work Josh! I know some people will say "it's new guitar honeymoon syndrome" but it isn't. I am critical to tone and feel and I'm fortunate to own some very nice Hamers (Cali set necks, Cali FM's, a Virt, Newport, etc) and have owned and played some awesome guitars over the years but this guitar kills them. Obliterates them. To me a guitar has to have a voice, sound alive like it is singing in a way. A personality of its own. Some great guitars have this "mojo" some don't. This Super-C is something else and just screams. Anyone sitting on the fence right now, maybe those who can't quite believe guitars can be "this good" or "that much better than another US model" really need to speak to Mike or at the very least try and find a way of playing one to experience it. His workmanship and human approach is unlike anything I've experienced before. I would hold my Super-C up with any holy grail and be confident. It is my Holy Grail. Mission: Accomplished.
