polara Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 At 6:11AM was on the FedEx truck for delivery! On Monday. Today's Saturday.Yeah, first world problems, having to wait two days to work from home so you can sign for your handmade guitar. Anyway, expect photos and a report Monday.
django49 Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Bummer! One nice thing locally, is that FedEx almost always delivers on Saturday. Strangely enough, they tend to give a head fake early Sat am, changing the delivery date from Sat to Mon, but it shows up as on the truck for delivery on the original schedule (Sat) an hour later. So, maybe, there is still hope?Either way, it will be worth waiting for!
The Shark Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Many of their drivers are sub-contractors driving FedEx trucks. I think they have some say in what they'll deliver on Saturday. You can call them and pick it up too. I do that all the time.

I do that all the time. agree on calling (1-800 go fedex) If it showed out for delivery yesterday and you waited around and the delivery date changed, theymay let you pick it up at the local annex. I had a delivery glitch on something and they let me pick it up on the weekend.
bubs_42 Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 That would have worked yesterday but not on Sunday. UPS IMHO has been much easier to "Pickup" at the depot than Fedex. My local Fedex is like a prison with tall fences and barbwire. FYI I had Mike ship mine direct to my local Fedex/Kinko's with ATTN: MY NAME and no waiting, no fuss.
BTMN Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 I have even rerouted a package if it is coming on a workday. I like that aspect. Here in St. Pete there is no Monday delivery to home addresses but there is Saturday delivery.
BTMN Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Forgot to mention the reroute was on Fed Ex's site using the tracking number. Can't wait to see your new guitar Polara.

polara Posted August 31, 2015 Author Posted August 31, 2015 Arrived perfectly intact, not even a dent in the cardboard box. Cool case! Interesting smell to this lacquer. Much lighter than I expected. Lighter and more compact than I thought it would be, not the aircraft carrier I'd expected. Balances well. The neck is unlike any guitar I've ever played except for my MotorAve. I have to hand it to Mike for reading my mind and my garbled request for a big neck that was a soft "v" at the nut, like a 50s LP but not a baseball bat. It's a very even girth up the neck, which I love and which only the MotorAve has. Bulls-eye! Setup was flawless. Low-ish, no buzzing, no issues. The rosewood is really nice, super dense with little grain. Very uniform color and dark. Fretwork is flawless, even and polished and the ends angled just right. Finish. Gretsch Orange over flame maple is a cool finish, guys. I'm surprised it's not more common, as it gives a nice Bengal tiger effect. As smooth and even as anything I've seen from Hamer, PRS etc. and doesn't have a thick, gooey feel. That's one difference from Hamer: the finish has a very different feel. I'm working from home so haven't plugged it into a real amp. I may play hooky this afternoon and plug into the Valvetech to open it up. First impression from plugging into the practice amp is clarity and balance. Very even, not boomy or shrill. Hard to tell on this amp but it seems to remain clear with gain. No abrupt volume or tone shift from bridge pickup to middle to neck: just different flavors. All in all the first impressions are of a very civilized, refined, playable guitar free of quirks. It's not that it doesn't have personality at all but it seems so CAPABLE, so easy to play. I'm pretty stoked! iPhone photos below. I was considering getting the Fujifilm digital and lights out but hell: you know the drill. It's about the playin' not the pics!
polara Posted August 31, 2015 Author Posted August 31, 2015 Congrats! Wow, that's rosewood and not ebony? Yeah, I had to double check. It's the tightest grain I've personally seen on rosewood, really dark and even. Not "ebonized" but a prime cut.
RobB Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 That's really nice. Another member of the dot neck club! What color is the back/neck?
polara Posted August 31, 2015 Author Posted August 31, 2015 That's really nice. Another member of the dot neck club! What color is the back/neck? Plain o'l mahogany though Mike sure got a nice stash of wood. Arrow-straight and ONE PIECE unless he's managed to eliminate all visible seams. Not swirly or wavy: very straight even uniform wood. The pic below is a better representation of the color, now that the sun is out. Also of the rosewood.
foodermon Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 another homerun. Love that orange and cream. congrats!
JGravelin Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 I've been waiting to see this finish on the body shape. That's straight up classic!
specialk Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Killer! Congrats on a great one!It looks like there are no bad choices with a Shiskov.
