Got my first Hamer, an 80s Hamer Special

I saw this on local Craigslist but hesitated. Several days later a person I buy a lot of guitars from, Mike, sent me a PM on FB telling me he'd overextended himself buying this and needed to sell. My recollection is that the owner previous to him is someone who has worked at J Gravity (local guitar shop) for ages. Now I want to trade some of my other guitars for vintage Hamers. LOL.

Nice grab! Hide your wallet.

ETA: My first was an '80s Special as well, 35 years ago. Still have it.

Let me be the first to offer $350 for it!

So what year model is it?  The first digit in the serial number will tell you.

Can't check it now but my recollection is it's a 1980 based on the zero.

Cool Axe with a lot of mojo.

Welcome aboard!

You know, after your first, the hunt will almost never end...

I plan to keep it but I just saw one on Reverb for almost $3k! I realize it's got binding and fancier inlays but....

If someone offered me $3K I'd probably take it. My guess is this is a bit outside of what the current market price should me.

The binding makes the guitar a Sunburst model regardless of the type of inlays.  Sunbursts bring more money than Specials.

We have a saying about those prices on Reverb, "asking ain't getting."

And the Sunbursts with crowns bring even more.

Specials were...and ARE...the gateway drug into many Hamer addictions.

We're all your friends now.

It was for me.  The first Hamer I saw (other than in a magazine) when my buddy brought his brand new Special in 1980.

Curious that I don't own one now, considering how many I owned over the years.

Can’t go wrong with an early 80’s Special. Congrats on the score. Let us know when you get your next Hamer…. 😉

Great line of guitars. Enjoy it loudly too. As was noted, hide your wallet. 😈

Okay, Okay; I'll give you $375!

Yeah, that's probably how most of us got hooked. My first was an '81 Special that I finished rebuilding last year. I was playing it yesterday, had two other guitars lined up to play as well and didn't touch them.

Great example, welcome and enjoy!
