When I was winding down my job and preparing for my move to Sweden, I needed to get rid of guitars. In true dumb guitarist fashion, I went to Guitar Center and decided I'd Find the best electric guitar there. Like blindfold test best, price no object, no brand in mind. Not for looks or resale but for pure performance. And Then trade as many guitars as necessary to get it. This Suhr Ian Thornley was and is the top dawg. It's happy in Sweden. Mine is slightly different in that it came with a series-parallel switch for even more sounds. All the Suhrs I tried were impressiver: congrats on your NGD!5 points

9.5 LBS of Korina, I would love to have one of those. Just maybe a little lighter would be nice.3 points

The magic for me is all in the full floating setup where the body of the trem is fully inside the route so you can pull up. The PRS/Mann style setup where you have a tiny bit of up pull is too limiting for how I want to use the trem. Big plus is the Mirage geometry lets you keep the saddles low and really get the nice light feel out of the arm.2 points

It's the suffix (or lack thereof) on all the posted links that is the problem. Your link is https://imgur.com/a/iZVKKIQ - that is a link to a page. What you (and everyone having the same problem) need is a link that ends with a suffix, typically .jpg, .jpeg or .png. I clicked your link which led to the photo being displayed in a browser window. I then right clicked the picture and chose "copy image link." The resulting link was "https://i.imgur.com/P9zQAJ1.jpg" Pasting that into the comment window leads the board software to retrieve and display the image rather than the link. Hope this helps.2 points

I wanna goooo!! Seriously, get togethers with fellow members has rarely disappointed and many times been an outstanding good time. You gents will have to share some photo views and or video along with a few Hamer beauties ššµāš«šā¤ļøš2 points

The crinkly giveaway (made in Vietnam) giveaway/Promo jackets were definitely sized 2-3 sizes smaller than advertised. I had an XL that was too small for my 4 year old at the time⦠I believe the nicer, heavyweight jackets with the leather sleeves are spot on size wise. Iāve got a pretty rare Dealer version, black/black sleeves that I donāt believe Iāve ever worn and I bought it new back in 1999-2000. Definitely nice!2 points

... at least at my home: Recently I discovered this beautiful neon sign (not LED!). I suspect that it is from the 80s or 90s. I even had to buy a step-down transformer to be able to use it. Amazing that it survived all these years unharmed. With more than 40 Hamer guitars in my collection, it seemed to me to be the cherry on top. I hope you like it too.1 point

Iām looking for a case for a Chandler mini āExplorer ā guitar. I donāt know if these Chandler mini guitars offered a case originally but the one I bought did not come with one. The mini Lotus Strat is for comparison as the Strat does have a bag (the bag in the picture is too small for the Mini explorer). Iām thinking worst case, Iāll see if a small gun case might suffice (most likely wonāt have the rigidity though). Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!1 point

My brother's band just released their latest music video, and I thought you guys might enjoy. No Hamer content here, but my bro plays a pretty tasty solo on this one. ...However, there IS some Hamer content in the acoustic version they did of the first single "Goin' Crazy;" the bass player is playing my brother's fretless cruisebass (i think?)1 point

Well that was fun watching Billy Corgan interview himself. RIP, JD. you were responsible for much of the soundtrack of my youth, and hence my life.1 point

I couldn't tell what looked off to me until seeing @cmatthes's green standard. The zebra/double-cream positions are swapped on the orange one and looks weird.1 point

When you buy a Vega you either buy one intended for a 2 point or one intended for a 6 screw setup. Its just a different fulcrum bar. They come with different threaded sleeve inserts if you have to adapt bushing sizes.1 point

Nice! I thought about the Vega when I upgraded my Mirages. Ended up going with the Mann vintage trem. Itās a fantastic option and big upgrade over the stock Wilkinson unit, which I still have on my Mirage Maple top. Maybe Iāll try the Vega on the maple top and see how it compares to the Mann bridge⦠š¤1 point

That's super cool! I liked your approach in finding the best for you. In light of that it probably didn't influence your decision but Ian Thornley is super talented! I saw Big Wreck open for King's X at The Masquerade in ATL several years ago. I walked away impressed!!1 point

The Vega trem is really spectacular. I have them in two Mirages and they have incredibly smooth feel and great tuning stability. Install is pretty painless as long as you have the proper version for the trem you are replacing (4 screw or 2 post). I need to go into my guitars with a sanding block to relieve the cavity a bit for more up pull but in a stock trem cavity they have great range. https://imgur.com/a/iZVKKIQ1 point

I thought the Suhr was white with a small blue square housing a question mark. That's not it? Same issue here, though.1 point

Sold it back to the person who sold it to me. Made some cash on it but nothing to brag about. I'd bet money that he'll sell it again at some point but he hates shipping, reverb, etc. I will say that it's a good guitar. I personally prefer more modern specs to vintage specs.1 point

https://reverb.com/item/96935562-hamer-studio-archtop-don-t-wanna-hear-about-it-1993 Hamer Studio Archtop. Donāt wanna hear about it. 1993 Howās that? You suffer from dĆ©jĆ vu and amnesia? Youāre sorry? Save it. You couldnāt resist, could you? It was the early 2000sāyou with your unnecessarily large diamond earring and that emo haircut, looking like John Rzeznik from the Goo Goo Dolls. This is when you carelessly traded me for a red 1964 Res-O-Glass Airline, and in return, you ponied up the $400.00 boot. Why? Well, because a seven-nation army couldnāt hold you back. Life indeed is the sum of our choices. Where is the Airline now? Speak up. I thought so. And howās that, Jack? āAnd Iām talkinā to myself at night because I canāt forget. Back and forth through my mind, behind a cigarette.ā Yes, youāre talking to yourself, alright, and meanwhile I was sitting on the rack at Samās Discount Guitars & Record Emporium. Sometimes wanting is better than havingāa lesson you still bear to this day. OK, OK, stop sniffling. Here I am again, and so is your chance to make things whole with the universe. Besides, what did you ever see in that other guitar? Please. As for me? Do you recall the richness of my Honduras mahogany body, with sustain for days? How about these impressive Maricella Juarez wound Duncan 59, P.A.F. and JB that throw fire in the face of the unsuspecting? Remember this two-piece flamed top bound in ivory trim? Nice, right? How about my precision tuning, brought to you by Schaller? Frets? Just as you left me. Truss rod? Functions as intended. Original case? No doubt. Setup? As usual. Condition? Stunning. In closing, sometimes wanting is better than havingāand sometimes not. Stop feeling like the damned looking at paradise. Itās right here. Just remember: you canāt go back and make a brand-new start, but you can start from now and make a brand-new ending. Whatās the alternative? Oh, I know. āDonāt wanna hear about it. Every single oneās got a story to tell. Everyone knows about it, From the Queen of England to the Hounds of Hell.ā Save it for the football game already.1 point

I bought a "Bikini Sunset" Jackson Fusion from that guy back before the pandemic. Actually put a bid in that got accepted while playing a gig. I kept thinking about it while I was playing, and after a couple of drinks to make what was probably a bad decision seem like a good one, I started haggling between songs.1 point

For all us OCD f***ers who can't comprehend it unless it's in list form: Rolph PAF set "underwound" for $350. Two really nice aged nickel covers for $45. LovePedal Mosferatu pedal for $145 (has the good transistors). Early Wizz humbuckers (no paperwork and no logos) for $600 (I don't have provenance, but they are the shit). Gibson Rhythm and Lead Pro pickups for $250. Boss Volume Pedal (the industry standard) for $50. Gravelin "Ultimate Charlotte" set for $350. "PTP" Indonesian PAF pickups for $100 (they sound pretty good). Seymour Duncan custom mini-humbucker four conductor pickup for $125. Gibson Sonex 180 pickups known as "Velvet Bricks" by Bill Lawrence for $350. Thorn Staple P-90 set for $350. Ron doesn't sell these anymore. Stewart MacDonald Golden Age 5400-Z/5401-Z set for $100 (highly underrated PAFs). Gibson Pat# from the mid-sixties (re-wind required)) for $150. Generic humbucker for $30??? Gravelin Ultimate Charlotte for $150 (not sure about the measurements, but I can find out!). Fender Tele pickup (generic import model) for $50. Marshall Gold logo reproduction for $40. Nickel Grovers from 2001 for $175. Celestion Greenback 25Watt speakers (2) for $300 (plastic mag covers are damaged, but pickups sound great). Stevens Pat Pend pre-1952 slide for $50. Oahii steel slide for $35. Oahu Diamond thirties slide for $35.1 point

Love me some Albert Lee! Although there's plenty of red-hot chicken pickers around, He pretty much made the mold and broke it, at least to a wide audience, with this one from 1971. On Jerry Reed's electric classical, no less.1 point

No, I haven't created a list yet. But I'm planning to move to a larger home next year (near Koblenz) with more space for the guitars. So this is an invitation to you to visit me and the Hamers.1 point

Coil cables are very capacitive and kill top end... and they tug at everything as you move. So if you like a loss of high end and having your pedals follow your feet like puppies, go for it.1 point
-
"Better" is absolutely subjective. Their greater capacitance (all things being equal) will generally roll off highs. One might find that appealing. Hendrix playing a Strat into a Marshall? Likely a beneficial effect on his tone. Playing a jazz box into a Polytone? I'm guessing not, but maybe so. ETA: just reread your question and needed to add this: as I understand it, it's nothing to do with inductance of copper coils but everything to do with the capacitive properties of wire in the cable. The coil of the cable simply means there is more cable (in linear feet) in a coiled cable than a plain cable and therefore more capacitance per effective foot of cable (apologies for the awkward wording).1 point

Well dammit. It's here. Cool guitar. In amazing shape. Sounds killer. ....with a shredder neck. As soon as I picked it up out of the case I knew it was not for me. It reminds me of an Ibanez Wizard neck - wide, flat and thin, more so than any guitar I've ever owned. Dammit. Fortunately we have a Dave's trip coming up, so it will be trade bait. I remain hopeful...0 points
