  1. Prelims: During the most recent respite vacation coordinated with the local hospice folks, the Princess and I went to south central Kentucky to my mother's hometown. Elizabeth had never been there and I wanted her to know about her paternal grandmother's family (my Mom died when Elizabeth was 17 months old), so there was a visit to the home where my mother was born, the cemetery, etc. Plus we stopped by Cumberland Falls. We were a little ahead of schedule, so naturally I hit some pawn shops, and picked this '83 Peavey T-27. I had always been intrigued by this model, as it was of the few production model S/S/HB hardtails made (the only other ones I can recall off the top of my head were Gibson's short-lived US-1 later in the '80s (didn't Gary Richrath endorse that model?) and the Robin Medley. Seemed like almost all S/S/HB guitars had high-tech vibratos. And Robin made a S/S/HB Medley bass. The T-27 had Peavey's patented coil-rolloff circuitry but it's set up differently from the T-60 (I'm still figuring it out). But I'm wondering what the replacement toggle switch cap is, and the intrigue is admittedly the main reason I bought it. Its wide-and-flat configuration is easy to locale (by feel) and easy to manipulate. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  3. I found this: ...which is the insides of a PhatCat/Bigsby-equipped Newport. Not sure if that helps you - the tailpiece section would probably to be different.

  4. His voice is shot and has been for a long time. He hires people to sing his parts and the crowd still goes wild because of his personality. Good to hear him share the Ed stories, tho. He can no longer sing, and that is a shame.

  5. Dave, as you know I am the original owner of that amp and it is simply incredible. Jim is a friend and good people. Reach out to him and tell him you are a friend of mine (Mark R.). He will take care of you if able. If not try plugging in-known good tubes one at a time. The 6g3 circuits was the nastiest Fender ever made, IMO, especially when paired with an early breakup Jensen or Oxford as the amps originally came with. Alternatively, the amp goes gonzo(see what I did there) with an EV SRO a la the Nuge on Cat Scratch Fever. If you need help with the amp, reach out brother. Hope all is well on the FLA west coast.

  6. Wonder what would happen if I started a company called Bumper.

  7. A. Reach out to Jim, ask nicely for advice and or referral. B. Take it to your local amp tech with some rep that will do you right. No need to mingle in there when there's ppl out there trying to make an honest living doing what you need to accomplish. Shit breaks down. Get it fix and enjoy. Life's too short.

  9. Atomic is my all-time favorite shop, and the gang there is the best, but I still think that’s a refin and a redone serial.

  10. Is the 90 body thicker than standard Newpport Like an Improv? Is the body carved out leaving the center block? For the record mine has the largest Hamer neck I have ever played Thanks Feynman!!

  11. Totally agree with Chris, that is a refin and at least the bridge pickup was changed. You should definitely black light the guitar to make sure no neck issues.

  16. The 90 has a full centerblock and is otherwise the same dimensions. Also, damn. I think your other guitar covers the base well, so you probably want to just get that Hamer back to me.

  18. Yes it looks like a Strat but the body and pickguard are different. Different enough not to be a copy. it's actually better IMO. The contours are more comfortable. Ibanez makes an AZ "Strat" but like Grosh, the body and pickguard are not the same as a Strat. This is not hard and negates any issue with Fender. The reason many builders make exact Strat copies is to take advantage of commodity pricing for parts. A standard Strat pickguard is cheaper than a custom one. A standard Strat body blank is cheaper than a custom one. And so on. Hamer's Standard is an Explorer shape but I've never checked to see if it's exactly the same. Remove 1/4" from the rear edge and it's no longer a "copy". Not sure if they did that but you get the point.

  19. Congrats @BTMNon a cool novelty piece and I Couldn’t agree more on the PI piece. I will say this, the US is very concerned about PI related to the defense industry (from which I recently retired after 41 years). We take action in that arena and that is all I can say.

  22. Strat copies didn't really become a thing until the Japanese started making a lot of them in the mid-late 70's. So the first 20 years of the Strat's life were relatively copy free. I think the CBS management at the time didn't see cheap Japanese copies as a big deal. Fast forward to the creation of the new FMIC when management bought the IP from CBS in the early 80's and nothing else. They are a separate company than the one that didn't police their trademarks. Moving through the 80's there were lots of Superstrats but they didn't use the exact Strat shape - Kramer, Ibanez, Jackson, etc. all used a modified shape. The 90's saw a resurgence of interest in traditional Strats and by the late 90's boutique builders were becoming a thing because of the internet. Now there are many builders making what are essentially copies at all price levels. From $200 import copies to $3K-4K high end Andersons and Suhrs. I really have no issue with Fender going after copies. It's pretty lame to just make a copy anyway. It is not difficult to change the shape a little so it's Stratty but not exactly. Don Grosh does a great job on his Retro Classics. So anyone who doesn't want to be affected by this simply needs to change the shape a bit. How hard is that?

  23. He's very happy with his lo-tech approach. You could suggest that he upgrade in the comments but he'd probably call you out and tell you to eat a dick in his next video. I've seen him do it. Great guy.

  24. They knocked off $500 and I traded a few things even up. That was a quick google search of the serial number….not accurate

  26. Hi Folks, Sorry about the delay in fixing attachment upload. I wasnt able to sort it immediately after go live on new server and work has had me away from home for last 3 weeks. I have some time off over weekend and going to dive deeper. That said I had mentioned that IPB has been turning the screws trying to get us to subscribe and so I am looking at moving to Xenforo which has a much more reasonable licensing model. I am also looking at that this weekend and moving to the new software might make more sense than fixing attachments in IPB. I'll keep you posted.

  33. Well I'm not ashamed to admit I liked Krokus for that era. Yes, I just set myself up for the next reply to be... Well you should be!! Anyway, was there a better time to like them, like when they started Europe's answer for an AC/DC cover band? Yes, l listened to them then too. I think the Scarab is a cool shape. I'd play one. And, at least Krokus was playing an all Hamer lineup when they were an actual successful brand. They did their part but Hamer management didn't. There's no reason with all the cool rock/ metal type guitars selling out there now that they couldn't have a nice chunk of that market still, but I digress by beating that dead horse! The video is typical for the time; hot chicks, bad acting, and stupid costumes. What's not to like? 🫣😉😄

  36. Looks like the bottom of a Floyd Rose bridge saddle. Those can fall out. Remove the string lock block, put the shim back in, put the lock block back in, and you should be fine. I've had some that just won't stay on, so i replaced the saddle.

  37. Our Martin Radio Shack (the larger town in our county that even has a UT "at" school) went out of business around the same time. Absolutely saved my butt when I, on a Saturday, accidentally made contact biasing an amp and blew a couple of resistors. Unbelievable to be able to drive fifteen minutes and grab a couple of replacements rather than wait a week for the mail.
