  1. I started listening to a capture of the entire first show. After Xanadu I was excited and interested to see online complaints of the plummet in ticket resale prices after the extra shows were added, thinking I might make an attempt to go after all. Then I heard Geddy croak out Limelight and now I think I will remain satisfied with the four tours I caught in the 80's. It's normal and natural for singers to lose their fastball, so to speak, but they have plenty of other fans to fill the seats. More power (windows) to them.

  2. Well, Gibson may have to sue themselves. That guitar is shaped VERY much like an Explorer.

  9. I had a pair of those that were my main gigging basses for a while.

  10. That is purty but never felt a desire for those basses. Don't know why. My Cruise was always great and finding the Blitz was definitely on my list. A 12ver also, but never a Chap. Would probably like it if I play one I must admit.

  11. Ugh. With all this kind of stuff, I'm leery to buy some stuff, but hasn't stopped me getting guitars here and there. Been fortunate that I haven't encountered any disasters. Computers I wouldn't worry about. Have a backup and bring that with you or have it on a service (preferably both). Those are easily replaced (unless you have a Cray or Big Blue).

  12. What about using PODS as a moving service? They drop off a shipping container in front of your residence and you load it yourself. I'm looking to bail on Cali in a few years. I'm thinking that boxing up my guitars and properly packing the PODS container would be safer than a moving van packed by idiots that hate their job. I won't have enough room in my vehicle for all the cases (although, If I get off my ass and sell 4 or 5 there may be enough room, LOL).

  13. Is the 90 body thicker than standard Newpport Like an Improv? Is the body carved out leaving the center block? For the record mine has the largest Hamer neck I have ever played Thanks Feynman!!

  14. NO effing way! 😬 I would NEVER ever trust my guitars to a moving company. I don't care which moving company you use~

  15. No, I wasn't there but I am certainly interested so I've been looking at some of the reviews and videos being posted. Decent setlist, and really cool opening with Xanadu and having Aimee Mann come out for Time Stand Still. Set 1: Xanadu Limelight Far cry Subdivisions Freewill Bravado (Neil tribute) Caravan La villa strangiato Vital signs Spirit of radio Set 2: 2112 / Temple of syrix Distant Early Warning Red Barchetta Dreamline Natural Science Time Stand Still (with Aimee Mann) Red Sector A YYZ The Garden Tom Sawyer (South Park) Encore: BYTOR and The Snow Dog Working Man Alex also played an Explorer-style guitar which I've never seen before, and Geddy wore a shirt when he played his doubleneck that seems to be a nod to certain other Canadian band that's getting a ton of interest right now. I saw a video of the "drum fill" section of Tom Sawyer and the crowd roared in approval when Anika hit it. I'll be interested in hearing what any of you that actually make it to a show think. An old friend dropped by but he was just working his day job.

  16. I won’t go into the long story about how this guitar, custom made for me, came about, but I always wanted a Junior made to my specs (TLE neck carve, sustain block bridge, Bill Lawrence pickup). Well, here it is. I’ve had it for a few years. The luthier(??!) who made it did several thing things wrong with it, but for the most part I’ve been able to get it to work well, and it does play very nicely. It’s pretty much exactly what I wanted if I overlook some of the silly flaws. What I truly can’t stand though, is that the builder managed to find the heaviest piece of mahogany on the face of the planet. Either that or he filled it with lead. It weighs in just at 10 pounds, which probably isn’t the heaviest guitar ever made, but the problem is that it is extremely unbalanced. It’s very annoying to play sitting down, the neck is just dying to pop up and hit me in the face. If I let go of the neck it would literally do just that, and probably with some force at that. It is perfectly balanced standing up, but it’s heavy and I pretty much never play standing up anymore and I don’t gig. Anyone know of a luthier that could chamber this thing without ruining the finish, if that’s even possible?

  18. At some point in life, my hands just got dry to where standard Fenders and Tortex would slip out of my hands or worse, move so the point was in a wrong direction. I moved to Dava picks and haven't looked back since. And they last pretty well too. But I still have boatloads of others.

  19. Maybe they could collaborate with Fender to do it.

  23. I got word yesterday from JohnnyB's wife that he has peacefully passed away. John was a very good friend... He was passionate about music both playing and listening. He was an audiophile and had 2 incredible sound systems for listening. He was a master BBQ-ist. And he was a masterful conversationalist. Most importantly he was a fierce and loyal friend. The saddest part is his dementia robbed him of so many things over the past few years. I hope he is at peace and talking up storm in heaven. God bless you John, you will be missed.

  24. Is Anikka hitting a crash cymbal backhanded at the early part of Tom Sawyer and also in Subdivisions?

  25. I want to hear both…the actual amp when practicing and playing live and when recording, I want the “recorded” sound of a mic’d cab into a console preamp and compressor. That’s what I want to hear, but Thre are no rules. It is whatever pleases you aurally. Same when I use modelers.

  26. as I understand it... generally it's the size of the inner core of the string and not the winding diameter, which is why a strat for example will most often have the two 'stair steps' at similar placement (cores of the wound strings are roughly similar diameter as the plain strings). I think I've got a tapered B on my old Chap 5, it's roughly a 'straight slant'. As a sidenote; there's a youtube review of a low cost headless bass, a model that I own and like, where the guy goes on and on with difficulty setting it up after a string change, FINALLY getting to the point: he put standard scale with tapered B strings on his fan fret (35" scale) headless: the taper on both ends, especially at the nut made it impossible to setup. 'User-error' ("what does this screw do?") is very common with used gear, I've been guilty but improving. When buying used bikes to flip, I call it 'the mark of the bonehead', - something has been adjusted or setup weird, now where is it? More common with bikes, but not uncommon on guitars

  27. I used the U haul version of pods to move my mom out to Georgia from California 15 years ago. It worked out well. She had fragile black lacquer furniture with all the very intricate inlays she brought from Korea years ago. With our careful packing (and I guess they didn't drop any of the big pods while moving a few thousand miles) everything arrived unscathed. I too would not trust anyone with guitars, artwork, computers and guns/ammo on our move to NC. Those were all packed into our own vehicles. So, move them like that, rent a u haul trailer for that stuff or pods for the important stuff.

  29. Raising a question I don't have the answer to - if the control cavity is shielded for noise suppression, would that also suppress the smart tag communication signal? I'm also in the don't trust the movers camp. Computers, guns and guitars travelled with me while I sent furniture, sheets and clothes, pots and pans in the moving truck.

  31. We’re moving from Bucks County, PA to Plano, TX in a few weeks. As much as I’d like to avoid it, I may have to put the guitars in shipping boxes and let the movers take them. Has anyone used smart tags in the control cavities when shipping guitars? I’m paranoid enough about damage during shipping, but the risk of losing the guitars altogether … ugh

  33. Hey Guys- up for sale is my 2002 Studio Custom in green quilt ! I love this guitar, but I'm just not playing guitar much at all these days, and work commitments mean this is sitting in the case all the time. This guitar is immaculate- I really 'babied' this one, just one tiny indentation in the lacquer near the belly- but I didn't notice it until today in the angled light. Obviously I'd prefer a UK sale, but I'm just really out of practice with sending guitars internationally at the moment..... so UK preferably......or anyone who would be happy shipping it out to someone internationally.... I will happily pick up the cost for UK shipping- or I can travel for the right sale- I've done that before - it's always nice to hand over a Hamer and see someones face light up when they open the case! Anyway, more about the guitar- I have the original amber knobs, but not the original bridge pickup I'm afraid. I was changed out to a Dimarzio Air Norton ( I had a habit a few years back of all my guitars having different sounding bridge pickups ). Dimarzio strap lock buttons installed too. Plays and sounds amazing, as you would expect! Regretting this already.....£1900. Let me know if there's any interest and I can post or send over more pics....obviously comes with the original hard case etc.. All the best, Dave

  35. What I would be inclined to do (NOT myself!) is find someone that could use a router to remove a deep layer of wood from the back of the guitar (mainly behind the bridge), leaving a "ledge" around the edges, then cutting a thin piece of wood to fit the cutout. It might be a bit trial and error to get to the amount of wood to remove and get the right balance and not affect the tone too severely. The back might end up something like this (OR you could try to get a matching wood). That would preserve the rounded edges of the guitar and avoid the need to then have to match the finish. (This example has the back extending to the edges, part of the original build, rather than inset after the fact).

  37. Hahahaha, um, maybe not. I could always leave it by my bedside as a self defense weapon. With the weight of the body, I could probably knock an intruder to Cuba.

  38. Yeah, if you don't want to spend the money on a guitar specific strip "$45+ I bought, a peace of V Groove rubber mat "exact same thing" cut to size, rounded both ends using a quarter as a template and installed it with 3M Spray adhesive "on both surfaces"... $12-$15 https://ebay.io/m/9iBX8W
