Thanks, man! Who doesn’t like a good Fireglo? Was talking with the Real Guitars guys and we all seemed to agree Ric had the most stylized guitars of the 60s. They weren’t usually employed in surf music, but they really have that cresting-wave, SoCal vibe. I think they’re beautiful.

The first song I heard was You Could Have Been A Lady, a Hot Chocolate cover, I believe. It didn’t do much for me. Imagine my surprise when they came roaring back some years later. It blew my socks off! I ended up digging them after all!

SOLD Great playing and sounding Artist Custom. Rosewood fretboard, frets are in very good condition with some slight wear, but probably 90+% of original height. Weight: 7lbs. 6 oz. Neck depth: 0.87" @ 1st fret, 0.95" at 12th Original Seth Lover pickups and (I assume) original Tone Pros locking bridge and tailpiece. I'm pricing this well below market for a perfect similar model because of the following: There is a professionally repaired binding separation in the top waist curve; There is a small unrepaired binding separation in the lower cutaway; There are tiny indentations on the back behind the upper horn. these are shallow and slightly larger than pin pricks. With guitar center still around, it’s as if Daddy’s Junky Music never went away. (Overpricing, underpricing, mis marking, losing the case, getting a case that wasn’t listed, getting a guitar with another guitar’s COA, never cleaning the grime off a guitar which would reveal a pretty much mint guitar) Never gets old

Sorta New Former Guitar Day. I snagged the Ha Ha Cali body and the accompanying Butala neck a week or so back. I put this together about 10 years ago or so and was especially pleased with the graphic I designed for it. It bothered me that somebody had parted it out. So, I put her back just as she was. Not sure I'll hang on to her. She plays and sounds great but I sold her for a reason and not sure anything has changed. I guess I just wanted to have her whole again and put her in the hands of someone who will actually value and play it.

You do realize that when a new owner takes possession, after you sell it or even give it away, they can do what they want to with it?

Thirty-ish years ago my brother came home from college and went and had a beer with one of his buds who'd not gone to college. The friend said he had a surprise and pulled up his shirt sleeve to reveal a tattoo. It was a Confederate flag with a banner below that read "Rebal" My brother asks (loudly and obnoxiously, no doubt). "REE-BALL? What the hell is a REE-BALL?" To which the friend argued, "no, no, it's REB-ull." "That's not how you spell that..." This was met with prolonged silence.

As my coworker says, "If it is important you will remember what it was." I hate him. 😉

This was on clearance at my local GC. I traded an Ibanez GB10 and cash and came home pretty satisfied with the deal. The 1993Plus was reissued years back with a wider nut (1-3/4") and an F-hole which was a hallmark of the original, 60's Rics imported to England by Rose Morris. Compared to my (since sold) 626/12, this one has it beat, hands down. No neck dive, and the hollow body gives it, "THAT sound." Hard to explain, but it sounds, “chimey-er”, than other solid Ric12s I’ve played. The wider neck makes it easy for me to arpeggiate chords without muting adjacent strings. Makes for a great playing experience! I'm sending it to Brawer for a few hardware upgrades from Winfield Vintage. I'll repost after the mods. Enjoy!

Those early Starla and Mira guitars punch well above their weight. And speaking of weight, they're light as a feather and perfect for whiney old bastards. And speaking of bastards... Shorter scale (24.5") on at least some of them.

you can find mistakes on CG site every day. They have AI doing some of the work and people just no paying attention.

As much as I love boomers, they look wrong to me on that Korina vector. Very cool guitar nonetheless.

I had been chatting with Mr. Dave Hill (NOT the dude from Slade, the one from Cleveland) over the last year or two about various guitar geekery and Hamers have come up here and there. I sent him a copy of “The Book” a while back just so he could see what he’d been missing all of these years. He was intrigued by the purple Prince Studio Custom, and I offered to let him check it out and play it when he was passing through the area sometime. Dave, Stike, my son and I had gotten a chance to hang out for an afternoon back in April and he was raving about borrowing a new Veleno for the Charlotte show the previous evening and dug it (but had to give it back). I brought up the Prince guitar again and he said he’d be honored to play it sometime. I had tickets to see Dave opening for Bill Murray at The Warner here in town a few weeks ago, and had also picked up a house concert at a really cool venue in North Baltimore’s lovely Roland Park neighborhood (Club 603). Friends of ours had just been there to see Rhett Miller and couldn’t say enough good stuff about it and also let me know that tickets were going on sale the next day - they don’t advertise, really, and the 30-40 seats usually sell out right away. I scored two, and right after, Bill postponed his DC show for the second time. I wasn’t sure if Dave was going to take the train down for just the smaller show, but he’s a man of his word, and did. My son and I trucked the purple guitar up and handed it to Dave for a soundcheck. He totally wailed on it for a solid half hour with a giant smile, and he showed it off to the hosts and sound team, who totally dug it. Dave had just scored a new Dunable V, which was super cool, and similar to the ones he usually plays, but he opted to sling the Hamer instead. It sounded great for the first part of the show and unfortunately, during his EVH interlude, he hit something (mic stand) and the middle string lock at the nut somehow loosened and the guitar went hopelessly out of tune mid solo. He was in the middle of a bit, so started riffing about having broken the guitar, but it was all planned payback for Prince trashing Capt. Kirk Douglas’ treasured ‘61 Epiphone Crestwood Custom. The audience started an unprompted “Prince! Prince! Prince!” chant as he switched to the Dunable. He didn’t get to play the Hamer for the rest of the set, but felt awful that he had broken the guitar. After the finale, he headed to the merch area a few rooms away so I hopped up took a quick look and in about 5 seconds had the guitar perfectly back in tune. We chatted later and he felt awful about it all, but honestly, there was zero harm done. He definitely wants to play it next time he’s in the area, like at the Enormodome or something. He definitely did it justice while he was playing and clearly dug it.

For me, owning a lot of guitars has zero attraction. I've owned four Hamers for years, and have no desire to own more. Amps and pedals, on the other hand... I am in constant search for the 'best' Plexi preamp pedal, the 'best' boost pedal. I'm 90 percent happy with my current performance rig but whenever Tone King or Friedman or Tubesteader makes a new preamp pedal, it's like a moth to a flame.

Hamer in the front, Peavey in the back - me like this. And he is absolutely right. If it comes to guitars or to photography, the gear rabbithole should not matter. But it dies, if course. It took me (like anybody else, I guess) several years to realize that more or „better“ gear doesn‘t make me a better player or photographer. It just makes you a player/photographer with less money…

One weekend evening RUINED!! At least you still have both of your legs.

Man, in the early days I wanted to learn amp building / modifications. Guitar modifications. Doing my own fretwork. Now I'm buying every guitar I've ever wanted along with amps and pedals. Oh, and a pickup set I got just for Peter Frampton's autograph. Guess what, I just suck. I needed to practice more and think less. Now it's too late. So I'll just sit here and look at all that I've acquired.

In other words, just shut up and play 🤷

Any argument on which pickup is superior needs to be couched in the disclaimer that it's all subjective. I have tried both, time and time again. While I've found a few JB's that were more palatable to my ear, the vast majority were not. SuperD's just never grabbed me. Full stop. It's kinda funny because I don't think of myself as being particularly discerning in my audio preferences; I'm not a tone chaser to the extent that I have seen on here and elsewhere. But I know what I like when I hear it.

I couldn't finish watching it. I have a problem when they just fill the video with random pics about the subject and they don't match up with what the narrator is saying... talking about a particular player and shows someone else etc. No offense to anyone, glad you enjoyed it.

I might add.....Things like this do make you think about mortality. And all the more so as I did have a bit of a health scare myself 2 weeks ago. Released and sent home with no restrictions, but the 30 hours in the hospital with very little sleep did sorta "concentrate my mind". I really DO need to think about why I have so damn many guitars and other gear. WAY too much money tied up in all that stuff......Pretty sure I will be identifying many pieces and upping my efforts to move some along. I expect I will be posting some things here, as well as calling some folks that have asked for dibs.....I just don't want to get ahead of myself as a "teaser" until I have a definite list and can set asking prices.

I think Syl would have laughed out loud if he had seen that poster. 😆
