The Rio Grande BBQ worked best for you in which guitar?

I had a USA DuoTone that BCRGreg had hotwired - Genuine TX neck/ BBQ Bridge and he modded it to blend the acoustic / electric 100% of the time. That guitar kicked all sorts of butt. I was in my experimental stage and still trying different Hamer models back then. I should have kept it.

Some folks don't like th BBQ, but the folks that do like 'em - what guitars do you like 'em in? Any trick to making them work for you? Cap / Pot values that bring out the qualities you like?

And of course, one more that Stike is working on for me...

I had one in the bridge of a '93 Special FM that was pretty incredible.

Love it in the bridge position in a Special.

Worked (insanely) great in my Phantom, in my FM I liked the muy grande better

I preferred the Genuine Texas for the bridge. The Muy Grande is still available for sale, BTW, ;)

I've always wondered how much difference there would be if I bumped up to the BBQ.

I'm a "Texas" fan too. I don't use overwound pickups. I find that the old PAF with not too much top works best. The BBQ works well, but I just think the Texas has more "voice" when overdriven.

I too had a 1994 3-Hole USA Duotone with the BCR Greg switching setup and a Rio BBQ in the bridge. Sounded killer.

Had the BBQ/Genuine Texas combination in my Koa Mirage II and currently have them in my Artist Custom, Robin Savoy Standard and Robin Fleetwood Standard. Heard lots of people say they sound “dark,” but they kick a$$ in those guitars. Maybe those guitars are brighter than normal…

They are a bit "darker" for the lack of a better word. The BBQ a bit more than the Texas. I just find overwound pickups lose "articulation" throughout the gain spectrum. Don't get me wrong. The BBQ sounds great, but I find that PAF style pickups that are overwound move me further away from the tone I'm looking for.

I had a BBQ on the limited Dean TCV I sold some time ago. It was too loud and compressed for my tastes. Maybe it was put on the wrong guitar?

My main '79 LP, '81 Special, '03 Special FM, and the Franken-Bo all sport 'em (with no other changes) and sound great, nice and thick.

I tried one in an import Monaco and got that 'cocked wha' - kinda tone. That didn't stay long.

I tried them in a Korina Artist. Didn't work, sounded like ass. Korina wood does not seem to enjoy middy pickups.

I yanked it outa there faster than I'd remove an anoying booger in my nose.

I have a BBQ in the bridge of my Studio, matches well with the 59 in the neck and kicks the shit out of the JB that was in there. Love it

Had a Texas and BBQ (bridge) put in an MIK Epiphone LP. It transformed it. The BQ in the bridge position totally rawked.
