Rethinking unbound headstock

So my order (in the second batch) was informed by the traditional Gibson/Hamer "bound & crowned" rule - only customs got bound headstocks. Now that I see the work that Mike is doing I'm considering throwing traditionalism to the wind and revising my order to include a bound headstock. Maybe it's already too late and I won't be troubled by the decision....

What say the masses?

I say, "go for it!".

Well, I don't say that all the time, but this one time I did and maybe a couple of other times too.

Depends on what the rest of the guitar looks like IMO, as far as additional ornamentation goes. Regards making changes at this point, you might have better luck (and make Mike happier) by simply waiting until orders open up for the third batch, and put in for another one then. ;)

For me it was easy: HELL. YES. I upgraded my order for headstock binding too.

Try to remember - this is NOT Hamer or Gibson, Mike earned his bones a long time ago and is cutting his own path, his own traditions.

You'd better get your Ultimate EXACLTY how YOU want it. Once its done, its done.

Mike's upcharges are unbelievably reasonable - see what he says.

Either way, I am very grateful he expanded this offer out and very excited for everyone.

Bound body, neck, and headstock for 0006.... With a crowned ebony board.

And a cool color. You will see it soon. Get the bound headstock.

(Very soon)

Ya know, I'm pretty dense when it comes to hints, but even I get that one...

Just to clarify (although this has been explained numerous times), there is no 'third batch', nor are there 'two runs'. The initial run was to be limited to twelve, but Mike opened it up because of the flood of orders. After the original plan became four times the initially anticipated size, he had to close the run. This 'run' is a special introductory series to get Shishkov Guitars up and running (more like sprinting!).

Once the initial run of Ultimates are complete, Shishkov Guitars will be building all manner of extraordinary instruments, at normal price structures. Just posting this again because there seems to be a continuous expectation of additional 'runs' at the same introductory rates, which is not the case.

What follows is going to be just as mind-blowing.

Thanks for all the input! So far my order is for a sunburst (similar to my avatar) with a B&C rosewood board. Maybe I'll drop Mike a line to see what he thinks.

Bound headstock! You will never be without it.

When I asked Mike what he thought (the bound headstock was a question of mine in addition to some others) he said he was really excited to see the reflections of all the individual customers and their respective tastes throughout the run. So I would let the guitar show as much of YOU as possible, whether that's dressed up or down, vintage or modern, etc....

That said, he mentioned to me that HE likes full binding, but it's not for everyone.

Nail on the head. No regrets, if your heart is in the right place. Face it someone is going to come up with something cooler, or more unique, more twisted and thats all fine an dandy but when you play it does it look like it belongs on you and it sounds good are the only two things that matter.

FWIW, I second-guessed my election for a bound headstock after reading THE BOOK and seeing all those cool vintage Standards, bound and crowned, but with a plain headstock.

But in the end I decided that this is going to be a special guitar, and not at all a four-digit Hamer, and decided to keep the bound headstock.

This headstock works, bound or not. Personally, I prefer unbound on four digits. I ordered mine bound b/c all my others (except the Electraglide), are unbound.

I prefer Bound too.

The beauty of all this is that you won't go wrong either way.

#0531 has no binding and the 12ver has.

I like the headstock binding better.
