hamerhead Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 OMG - they literally auto-tuned him to death. R.I.P., Ozzy. You were a pioneer, to be sure. 1 7 Quote
diablo175 Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 It blows my mind that he was able(?) to do one last concert appearance, and a momentous one at that, before he expired. He has forever etched his name in the annuls of rock n roll history and will be missed. 8 Quote
LucSulla Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 I got into rock because of Van Halen, but I got into metal because of Ozzy. Both of them made my life so much more exponentially cooler than I could have ever hoped for. 2 2 Quote
Travis Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 Ozzy’s music was a huge part of my early musical life, mostly thru jr high and high school, but still into undergrad and adulthood. Everything he did up to No More Tears I could listen to front to back without skipping a thing. After that, it was a few tracks here and there. To be honest, with all he’s done over the course of his life, I’m surprised he lasted as long as he did. And with everything he did, in the end it was Parkinson’s that did him in. RIP, the prince of fucking darkness. 6 Quote

tbonesullivan Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 I still remember watching MTV in the early 1990s when I was in either Junior or High school, and the video for Mr Tinkertrain came on. I was never the same. 1 Quote
cynic Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 Damn. This one kicks my teenage self square in the nuts. Legend. 1 Quote
DaveH Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 We all knew it was coming, but it's still a bit of a surprise coming so soon after the BTTB gig. Ironically, I was listening to 'Never Say Die' this morning. 2 Quote
LucSulla Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 Here's a recording from my band's last show in 2003. We were so hammered because we knew this was it, and most of us had been in the band since we were sophomores in high school. The venue was packed with our friends from over the years, and we were having fun. Our last song of our last set was "No More Tears," which, in 2003, was generally never heard in college towns because any thing from that era of metal was no where close to being cool again, not even ironically. We absolutely did not care though. We all fucking loved Ozzy. This is not the best we ever played this song by a long shot. I think the band had consumed roughly a handle of Jägermeister by this point in the set, and you can tell. Steven botches the lyrics, Jake flubs the keys, and my slide was so sticky from spilled Jäger that it sounds like a flat tire. But it was the most fun. Steven swearing through the interlude lines cracks me up to this day because you can tell he is just beyond the realm of giving a damn about anything. We rarely drank much at shows, and I can count on one hand how many times any of us were drunk on stage in 7.5 years. However, we knew it was our last show, and we were having a blast with about 100 of our closest friends from all over the south. I guess I'll share it because I guess if I ever was, this is the day. 8 1 Quote

Bluesking Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 (edited) Good run, Mr. Osbourne. And now we wait for the inevitable Sharon-promoted pay per view event: Ozzy's funeral. Edited July 22, 2025 by Bluesking 5 1 4 Quote

BTMN Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 (edited) I’ve had some good times at Ozzy shows. Spring of 1981 went to a Minneapolis outdoor deal memorial Day at the University of Minnesota. Motorhead, Lamont Cranston band, 38 Special, and Ozzy with Randy Rhodes. Watched the guys in Motörhead and the road crews play some pickup soccer between bands after Motörhead had played. Suddenly realized I am standing about 10 feet from RR. 👀🫣 About 10 minutes later I make my way to the pit to photograph 38’s set and up walks RR and his girlfriend. Nods of heads and we watch them play. It was awesome watching Ozzy and Randy play. Life IS Good. Here’s myself and some great friends from the Dean Owners Association s few years ago. 💔❤️🩹❤️ Edited July 22, 2025 by BTMN 7 Quote

mathman Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 (edited) So just a little story about my childhood and Black Sabbath. I was born in 1960 the youngest of 4 brothers. Around 1972 or 3 iirc I started getting into music. Specifically Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and Black Sabbath. This was the era of black lights and posters and such. My older brother was the typical 1970's hippie with the VW Van, long hair listening to Moody Blues. My parents had a house built in 1969 and it had those round wood columns in the front. For some reason they had to cut them shorter for the porch and we kept some of the leftover. Round hollow wood columns. So I cut shapes into the sides and rigged it to a lamp so the shapes would shine through to the walls and ceiling. I would turn off all other lights and listen to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and trip out to the light show I made. Black light posters and all. It was that kind of psychedelic time without the psychedelics. Those came later... Good times. RIP Ozzie. Edited July 22, 2025 by mathman clarity 6 3 Quote
django49 Posted July 23, 2025 Posted July 23, 2025 Surprised he lasted so long. We used to bump into him coming in the backdoor of the Beverly Hills Hotel for lunch. Bat soup? 😏 (We were there for a Rotary meeting). He seemed in very poor shape then.....A big dude (bodyguard?) all but carrying him in.....That was when they were doing the reality show from their BH home down the street---Something that had their proper neighbors quite upset. Reckon that was about 22-23 years ago. Good that he was able to get out for that final show. 2 Quote
