Steve Haynie Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Pollstar.com has an article on this event. At least the opening act is good. Kenny Wayne Shepherd can play.
carbenez Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 "Oh like you could do better" is right up there with "I know you are, but what am I"..... If you dig Van Halen and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, that's great! Say it loud and proud. Spend your money on those tickets! I saw the first Roth reunion tour in 2007... that was enough for me. David can't sing anymore...his stage moves are some strange combination of Bob Fosse jazz hands and WWE posturing... and Edward...who is one of my ultimate influences and a total hero... is playing the same solo he was when I saw them in 1982, and not playing it as well. Is it to much to ask that he write something new??? Maybe it is...and maybe its too much to ask for me to shell out the $$$ to see them play again. I'll keep my opinions of Kenny Wayne Copycat to myself
Biz Prof Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Dave's hair looked great on that 2007 tour. I'm not certain from whose head it originally came, but it looked good on Dave's noggin.
jamminpete Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I saw them last tour at UC in Chicago with Kool and the Gang. Eddie sounded great. They rocked!I'll probably see them again. I was hoping for new material though. They said they would have a new CD in 2015. In my opinion their last CD "A different king of truth" was one of their best. Even though a lot of the songs were just old material that was redone.
Willie G. Moseley Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I'd heard rumors from a reliable source a few months ago that negotiations were under way to make it the original foursome w/ Michael Anthony. Anybody else catch that murmur? And while whoever the vocalist is for KWS is good, sometimes it's still slightly odd, marketing-wise (and perhaps even onstage), when the title character of an act isn't the lead singer. This goes all the way back to Da Nuge in the '70s w/ Derek St. Holmes in his first go-round. True, VH's lead singer doesn't have that surname but the name of that band is a surname only.Roth isn't still doing splits, is he?
Willie G. Moseley Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Note edited post above. This post edited to add: Feynmann's post came in while the above post was being edited
Feynman Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Well, I deleted my post, so now it's extra confusing.
FGJ Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Even though a lot of the songs were just old material that was redone.I'm not sure why so many people continue to make this observation as if it's something unique to their last album. Nearly every one of the earlier Roth-era VH albums contained re-recorded songs from their early demos, and that shouldn't be construed as a lack of ability to write new material or an attempt to rip-off fans. The fact is, those demos were, well, demos, and they were not made for public consumption. Keep in mind that it's the band that's getting ripped-off by people copying and selling bootlegs, not the fans. Fans have no right to expect Van Halen to shelve songs that they themselves never released to the public. If people are tired of hearing bootleg songs, the band itself can't be blamed for that. I myself never even heard the bootleg material until after I heard their latest album (and I was thrilled to hear that old material for the first time). In any case, while I can commiserate and agree that Roth can't sing like he used to and Ed is still playing the same solo, I'd still like to see them live for old times sake. Frankly, their last album was, I'm my opinion, really great and far better than I ever expected to hear from them again. They really surprised me. It took me a while to get used to Ed's tone, which sounded more compressed and processed than I like, but it's nice to know they can still put out a great album. I only wish Michael Anthony were still with them because his backing vocals is part of the band's signature sound.
bubs_42 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Yawn Oh like you could do better. Did I mention i'm a VanHagar Fan? At least one or two members of VH is still making music.
hamerhead Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Ever see Sam's Birthday Bash? Mikey comes out and does a few. Good stuff.
cynic Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Does this mean they're not going to finish the previous tour?
bubs_42 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Ever see Sam's Birthday Bash? Mikey comes out and does a few. Good stuff.Yes, and i've witnessed them live many times post VH. This summer IL State Fair Sammy, Vic, Mikey and Jason Bonham!
carbenez Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I'm really happy that Ed has gotten to a place where he seems happy, healthy, and sober. I was pretty sure about 10 years ago that he'd soon be dead. At the recent talk he did at the Smithsonian, he came out dressed casually but sharp; he has his hair cut short and has let it go gray and his beard was pretty gray. He just looked like a normal dude, and totally at peace with himself. That makes me feel really good, and I think all rock guitarists owe the guy a debt of gratitude and respect.... I'm just not going to pay $$ to see them live anymore.
Armitage Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Great post, I agree 100%P.S. I must be the only guy who would really want him to play the old solos again as is...

Is it to much to ask that he write something new??? Maybe it is...and maybe its too much to ask for me to shell out the $$$ to see them play again. I'll keep my opinions of Kenny Wayne Copycat to myself I opted not to see them for this same reason.... Last saw classic VH in 1984 - Last saw DLR in 94, last saw Van Hagar in 92? ------ didn't want to ruin the memories. Seeing Dave in Bristol UK in 1994 was a shock - a coked up Yankee doodle dandy with the Bob Fosse thing going hard ----- a sad and unexpected fall from the Eat 'em and smile and Skyscraper tours --- After enjoying the hell out of the 5150 tour (multiple shows) I was hugely disappointed in the ou812 Monster of Rock tour and -- and bitterly disappointed with the F.U.C.K. tour -------- Eddie was wasted and couldn't give a fuck - Sammy was doing everything he could to keep the boat on the water but I just wasn't buying it because Ed was so fucked up and pissed (off). I just couldn't chance killing my last memory of 1984 by seeing them in 2007 and beyond.. I'm with you EVH was my fav --- I've had the good fortune of being right in front of him on the barricade for 5 shows --- feet away. His creativity, musicality, drive, ambition ---- they all started falling hard after1986 and never recovered. I want them well, happy, wealthy, and living life and making great music -- but I need to keep my memories intact. Apparently there's no fucking Santa Claus --- and Christmas has sucked Donkey ever since I found that shit out - I need VH alive in my memories or I'll have nothing left from my childhood beyond the day I first tugged on my wiener and went "well hello there!".
princeofdarkness56 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Well best of luck to them. But the article said it's a 40 date tour. I'm thinking it will be around 25 dates before the "fatigue" steps in and either they will postpone the remaining dates or try again some other year.

In case people say that some material on the new album is just old stuff redone. I just wanted to be clear that I don't care in my opinion it is one of their best albums. The show was great and I will see them again. Dave pretty funny actually... kept complaining about "Somebody fix this F***ing Mic" He was ticked off about the wireless mic he was using.
BubbaVO Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I---- Eddie was wasted and couldn't give a fuck - Sammy was doing everything he could to keep the boat on the water but I just wasn't buying it because Ed was so fucked up and pissed (off). That's the Eddie I saw. I couldn't tell you how disappointed I was. I'm rooting for him to get his stuff together, but I'll need to hear he's better than ever for me to break into my Shishkov piggy bank to see him again.
Cary Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 They put on a good show here in 2008. Not quite the old magic from the five tours/shows I saw 1980 through 1984, but I was far from disappointed. If they bring Mike back, I'd probably go see them again.
jettster Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Most expensive concert we've been to and the most disappointing. Love old VH and the Hagar version as well but I won't ever go see them live again.
sirDaniel Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 If they bring Mike back, I'd probably go see them again.memories of 1979 are still fresh in my mind
