Tinker a bit on piano, uke, and once in a blue moon I take the mandolin out of it's case.

Borrowed a Chapman Stick for a while, but no way was that gonna work!

Any other instruments you play, tried to play, or would like to learn?

What did you start on? Did it help with learning any other instruments?

Learned on guitar, but play bass well and fumble through bad keyboards. I'm a good singer, and I engineer my band's CDs. Program all the drums. Write all the songs.

I'm a Renaissance man of mediocrity but it's fun!

Ive gone months where I gigged on anything but guitar.  99% of the time it was a pit band gig but Ive played professionally on

Bass guitar

Banjo

Mandolin

Dobro

Lap steel

Pedal steel

I can sub in on bass, or easy drums or easy vocs.

I played saxophone in school, my daughter started saxophone last year and I got my old horn tweaked up for her and found that I can still play it....kinda.

Guitar and ukulele, I keep postponing my entry into the mandolin realm based on the number of acoustic and electric guitars and ukuleles I have accumulated.

I also fantasize about taking violin lessons, but a full and part time job as well as part time grad school attendance prevents it currently.

I'm first and foremost a bassist.
I sing backups in the band, but I'm no singer.
I also tinkle out remedial synth noises on one pop song.

Any other negotiating I do on keyboards and guitars is strictly for self amusement (or self abuse, depending on the day).

Bass, keys, harmonica, finger drums on a Korg PadKontrol and one hell of a mean cowbell!

Keys.  I played my first recital on piano at the age of eight at Stetson University's Elizabeth Hall.  Studied until I was twelve.  Then came baseball and guitar.

Thorn's son Brandon has played there too!  Fantastic sound in that room.

I tinker around a bit with bass (at home) and I sing some background vocals. Years ago I tried  to learn how to play the flute but that went sideways fast as I apparently just don't have the knack/lips. I would like to one day learn how to play the mandolin as I really like they way they sound.

Ive chosen bass as a director playing in the ensemble. I actually love playing bass on pop music and it's the most effective instrument to affect tge direction on the fly

Was a serious young keyboardist until the Beatles happened and my teenage self figured out that I wasn't going to pull the birds dragging a piano about behind me. From there I went to guitar with bass close behind and a little tenor sax.  I dabble at harp, mandolin ukulele and banjo.

Playing drums in two bands now. I play them about as well as guitar (read, not too well). Drums was my first instrument, picked up guitar from my first band's guitarist. He remains one of my best friends to this day.

I started  playing guitar then moved to bass.  I studied/learned some piano in college and afterward.  Play the drummers drum set as often as possible, espcially when he left it at my house during the time we jammed and practiced mostly at my house.  Still play guitar and bass and keyboards and drums.  Not really good at any of them but I can make it work.    I even have proof!  ;-)

Cornet, Baritone horn, and Trombone in High School Band.  Bass guitar every now and then.  Used to mess around on an old Hammond M-3.  Otherwise, I play the radio.  ;)

When The Beatles came along a teenage Rod Argent was doing some amazing stuff on keyboards.  He fared well in the age of Beatlemania.

True, but at that point he probably wasn't a 13 year old dork with the social skills of a floor mop.  I fared well eventually.

Do vocals coun't? Otherwise, only guitar. :(

Well, I can dabble on the uke too, mostly since I realized it's like playing just the four higher strings of the guitar from the 5th fret on. But that's still playing the uke with a guitarist's mindset, in spite of some cool strumming patterns which sound better on the uke.

So, in short, I think I just play guitar.

I picked up a bass about five years ago (?) - I absolutely love playing bass.  I also agree with HHB - there is something about being on bass that allows much better perspective when directing an ensemble.

I can play guitar on keys - meaning, I can sit down (as I am sure anyone else here can do) and play guitar chords on a keyboard.  Seems easier as it's all right there in front of you.  Notice I did not say I can play keyboards.  I feel that is a different competency (and a more difficult one).  If I'd actually practice I might be able to pull it off, but guitar is just too much fun.

Played harmonica from the sixth grade up until I got married (wife, as do most humans, loathes harmonica, and it is an admittedly annoying instrument).  I only play on the DL now - I keep one or two in the car and play on the commute... when I remember I have them in the car.

I love playing drums, but rarely get the opportunity (which means I am likely not as good as I think I am!).

I also play electric bass, a bit of ukulele, and some piano. My main instrument is however the Tenor Trombone, and I also can play a double valve bass trombone, and alto trombone.

Here's a picture from a few years back, before I got my alto and another tenor.
