  1. Hi, a few pics.... a little dirty, no case (what I expected) my local GC guys took care of me (got me the 10% promo) cleaned it up, fret polish, fretboard hydrate,,,, the output jack is working at about 20%, and I don't love that they use loctite on the inner nut... but otherwise, it plays and sounds nice and is one of the best values in the Hamer line. Cool deal

  2. If your going to go this way, try to find one where the high "E" is not completely covered by the headstock. I've seen a few out there before. This will be a closer headstock carve to the original Crowned and Bound Standard. In my opinion you'll have to swap out tuners, pots to CTS, bridge to a Quality USA or German made, brass tail piece (hard to find) or Zinc Tailpiece (heavier than Aluminum). For an awesome build have Josh Gravelin wind you a set of pickups. https://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/profile/113838-jgravelin/ Other opinions about pickups go from Original traditional Dimarzio's from early Hamers to Seymour Duncan 59 neck and JB bridge and probably more. I think most would agree to consult with Josh Gravelin and get a personal set wound. Less than vintage Dimarzio's and just a little more than modern Seymours. Here are examples of headstocks from a 1996 Signature Rick Nielsen 59 Standard Hamer and from what I understand was only made for the Japanese market. About 15 pieces. And a 1979 4 digit C&B Dark Burst Standard. Mommies alright Daddies alright Good luck with your awesome band. Remember! Remember! To play for you effing fans. Good luck! H R.

  3. Follow up: plugged the Blonde direct into an unaffected channel in the X32 at church. Very usable sounds. Fantastic to have two identical “channels” for variation. The Screamer sim sounds like a tube screamer. I ran a Flashback in front of it and it worked great. Definitely more practical for me than micing an amp and the tones are absolutely close enough. I want to try other pedals in front of it now. For example, how does the on-board Screamer compare to my favorite Screamer, the Menatone Red Snapper? Thanks everyone. Great recommendation!

  5. No horse in the race, but as a practical consideration for a specifically gigging guitar, wouldn't something like this Korean Standard be a better option? Cost is around 10% of the real deal. Much less anxiety about theft or breakage!

  7. So, apparently my signed copy of the Robin Guitars book “Thunder out of Texas” arrived a couple of days ago and I don’t remember the wife telling me she put it under our son’s school work on the island…. Just opened it tonight. 😂 Can’t wait to dive into it. Looks great on first peruse. I see a couple of koa Rangers in the pages. But, @The Shark has my grail Robin…. 😉 Thank you, @Willie G. Moseley!!!

  8. Thanks. Not sure about that but I am on my way to a fun learning curve. I am enjoying the hell out of figuring this thing out.

  9. Here is a very sloppy take as I am trying to relearn Need your love on the 12 string after playing it for years on my Cruise bass. (4 string) I may try to fix this more later but it completely functional at this point. A few, more than a few mistakes, this thing is a bear to learn to play. String spacing so different from my other basses but it sounds so cool to play those songs and have them sound close to what they should and not be faking it by playing chords and octaves on my four string bass. it does cut off before the end. I didn't play the whole thing yet. still trying to remember how to play it. Disclaimer, this is the real version of the song with Petersen's bass removed.

  13. Here's another. The added benefit is these can be altered to suit the tribute band (checkerboard paint schemes, for example) without regret.

  15. A friend of mine is in a relatively new Cheap Trick tribute band and he asked me to help him find a USA Standard flametop. I'm looking around on Reverb and Ebay but I figured some of you might know where I could find one.

  16. A friend loves Todd Snider and got a couple of us to go see him. He put on a fun show. Earlier this year my friend saw him again as his health issues were beginning to affect his touring schedule. He is glad he was able to see Todd a last time. I am glad I got to see him once.

  18. It's been so many years since I bought a Hamer that I'm not used to seeing ZERO flametop USA Standards listed on ebay or Reverb.

  26. So for the non tuning guitar string. I just removed it for now. It seems the two octave strings are the same. So I was able to tune it and play by removing the bad string. Having fun now.. Definitely a different beast but a blast. First task is to relearn Need Your Love with the 12 string.

  29. Yeah, as long as you post the asking price with it, you can post Reverb links. You can also right click the Reverb pictures, select "Copy Image" and then paste them here as well. They will be rescaled to 72 dpi or whatever so that they don't hit the image size limit. For instance:

  36. Thank you all for the kind words and clicketies! For the curious, Charlie's preferred P-90 specs are pure vintage blueprint but overwound. Specifically, 42 plain enamel, Alnico 4s, unpotted, around 9.1k DCR, and inductance also just over 9H. It's a phat hoss of a P-90 and it can get ornery when the heat is applied, hence the nickname the "hog ear" dogear.

  37. Depending on what you're looking for, Reliable sells that sort. There's DIY Road Cases. Amazon, too, though would you really know what you were getting?
