Man, in the early days I wanted to learn amp building / modifications. Guitar modifications. Doing my own fretwork. Now I'm buying every guitar I've ever wanted along with amps and pedals. Oh, and a pickup set I got just for Peter Frampton's autograph. Guess what, I just suck. I needed to practice more and think less. Now it's too late. So I'll just sit here and look at all that I've acquired.

Hey Guys- up for sale is my 2002 Studio Custom in green quilt ! I love this guitar, but I'm just not playing guitar much at all these days, and work commitments mean this is sitting in the case all the time. This guitar is immaculate- I really 'babied' this one, just one tiny indentation in the lacquer near the belly- but I didn't notice it until today in the angled light. Obviously I'd prefer a UK sale, but I'm just really out of practice with sending guitars internationally at the moment..... so UK preferably......or anyone who would be happy shipping it out to someone internationally.... I will happily pick up the cost for UK shipping- or I can travel for the right sale- I've done that before - it's always nice to hand over a Hamer and see someones face light up when they open the case! Anyway, more about the guitar- I have the original amber knobs, but not the original bridge pickup I'm afraid. I was changed out to a Dimarzio Air Norton ( I had a habit a few years back of all my guitars having different sounding bridge pickups ). Dimarzio strap lock buttons installed too. Plays and sounds amazing, as you would expect! Regretting this already.....£1900. NOW £1700 Let me know if there's any interest and I can post or send over more pics....obviously comes with the original hard case etc.. All the best, Dave

My wife put this on while I was sitting there and I was thinking, 'What is this cheesy shit?', then find out it's a real story that really happened in Milwaukee. And the more I watched, the better it got - the depictions of small-town Wisconsin 'fame' and the people who strive to attain it were dead on, cheese and all. Plus the fact that Wolverine and Kate Hudson did their own singing - and did it really well - added a lot to it. Neil Diamond is a great talent, both as a writer and a performer. Not my go-to by any stretch, but I grew up with sisters who had his records, and 'Hot August Night' is pretty damn good. This movie was a surprise, but waking up with Niel Diamond earworms sucks. I need a rock and roll Q-tip.

I've soured a bit on Lovepedal. It's really hard to get support on your pedal from him if it doesn't work. I would know. The other thing is he at least once shut down his business due to personal issues and went completely dark for a long period of time. People who had stuff with him for repair were basically SOL. IDK if he found a way to make it up to them offer. Basically, I'm saying if you buy something from him treat it as being without any kind of warranty or support. It's less a complaint about the quality of the product. Also, I've had something like 7 different zendrives before that shut down. One sounds exactly like an original, and the rest all sound different. It's confusing AF but I kept the one that basically looks and sounds identical. I also still have an OD11 which is basically a Tim with one wrong value according to a dude on TDPRI who analyzes such things. 11gauge I think.

And maybe you can find a case for another $350….

Had great results with Terrapin Guitars (three orders). Their web interface is fantastic. Pick the style guard you want, then enter the pickup configuration. Price totals as you go. Service has been quick and the price was (obviously) agreeable. They even made a change after ordering (before production) when I decided I wanted to go with English Mount on the Filtertrons.

Hot August Night was a GoTo of mine when it came out. I loved the opening: you could hear people in the audience chatting, one lady coughing up a Marlborough Red, then that majik cello playing softly. The talk died down and the crowd payed more attention as more instruments joined in. Then came the "Rock out WYCO," as it seemed for 1973. Neil Diamond's voice was nothing like the studio recordings and I liked that. It was raw and mellow at the same time. And, from that you may think I have good taste in music. Not so fast fuckeroo. You ain't seen nothin' yet. I am interested in watching, "Song Song Blue." Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully it's on something I already am subscribed to. ETA: Found it on NetFlix. So far I really like it.

Is that a Fender logo in the upper left corner of each member's rail? Couldn't tell at that resolution but seems awfully non-sequitur if that's the case. The kids are fascinated (or at least they're pretty good at pretending) with the tales of TV in my childhood - everyone had a variety show (Shields and Yarnell, Shields and Yarnell!, even had a variety show) and Neil was a staple. A great talent even though he probably won't find himself on any of my playlists (he doesn't care). ETA: thanks for the prompt. I saw it come up but didn't think much of it. I don't mind watching anything with Kate Hudson - been watching "Running Point" on Netflix of late.

I saw them before I could drive (my dad took me). I used to play sax in school, it was a big deal to have horns along with Terry's raw guitar. And real musicianship.

I've often wondered about the effects of the treble-forward Hendrix orientation of the bridge pickup (whether it made much difference). Somewhere in my ridiculous stack of Strat pickguards I have one with that orientation for the bridge pickup. I should slap a Strat together and see if it makes a difference. Hmmm. I have a Gilmour set (the Fender/Duncan set, not the EMG set) in a drawer... love that SSL-5. Might have to try this out.

I confess a guilty pleasure during college, this was on constant rotation. I found the guitars (Tim Pierce, IIRC), production and vocals to be absolutely amazing. I still listen when I think about it. My kids were going off about 80's haircuts the other day, "mullet this" and "mullet that." I told them I never heard the word "mullet" until later in the '90's. We always called that haircut the "Rick Springfield" and it was never taken to the extremes of a, say, Joe Dirt. It was a tasteful take - more like longer hair with short sides. [/musings]

Any argument on which pickup is superior needs to be couched in the disclaimer that it's all subjective. I have tried both, time and time again. While I've found a few JB's that were more palatable to my ear, the vast majority were not. SuperD's just never grabbed me. Full stop. It's kinda funny because I don't think of myself as being particularly discerning in my audio preferences; I'm not a tone chaser to the extent that I have seen on here and elsewhere. But I know what I like when I hear it.

I have a problem. But after seeing that photo of the specials et al, I now understand that my problem is not big enough. Gotta work on that. I feel so much better.
